Finishing my basp00get

I started this project a few years ago working on it here and there. It was delayed by many things but mostly the time to work on it was the biggest struggle. I did 90% of it myself with some help from friends who are in the trade (one is a master plumber, another is an electrician).

I hung the drywall for the office area and after that decided to hire the rest of the drywall out as I wanted the walls to be nice and straight and the corners crisp.

I had originally planned on a dedicated theatre room, but I lost that battle with my wife early on and it ended up as a large family room instead. The size and shape of the area doesn’t make it very acoustically appealing but overall I am happy with the way it turned out and it will be a much more usable space this way.

Normal TV viewing will be on the 58” plasma that will be mounted on the wall under the soffit at the end of the room. The soffit will “hide” the 100” projection screen that will come down for movies. My current surround set-up is 5.1 but I wired the room for 9.3.

There is also a kitchenette area with room for a full-size fridge and microwave. After the main room and office area are finished, I’ll move on to the other corner of the basp00get and finish my wife’s craft room and the bathroom.

This is the way it looked this morning and the drywallers started doing their part today so it should be ready for paint in a few days.
I still have a ways to go, but at least with the drywall up, it will actually feel like I've accomplished something. :D

Cool, looks good.  It must have been a pain in the butt to get your 2x's and the sheetrock down there.

You have no idea how jealous I am.  I moved from MI (Greatest State ever) to Texas (Worst state ever) only to find out they don't have basp00gets here (they build right on top the brimstone).
My car is a gravity hybrid.  The gasoline engine gets me up the hills, and gravity gets me down.

Thanks.

Getting the lumber down there wasn't bad, I just lowered it through one of the windows. The sheets of drywall were a bit difficult, especially the 12 footers

When we were house shopping, it was a must have on my feature list. I'm not sure I could ever have a house without a dry usable basp00get. For my next house, a lower level walkout style will on the wish list.

Looks good! I finished finishing part of my basp00get that was started about 30 years ago a few months back. I wish I'd had the time and money to start from scratch. After 30+ years of settling, nothing is overly square anymore (but that could just be me being picky since I'm used to tight tolerances...)

Thanks everyone.

My wife suggested that a few weeks ago, and I agree it would have been nice opened up like that but the wiring for the light switches are in that wall so I would have had to re-run all of that wiring. Probably only a few hours of work, but at this point I just wanted to get the room done so I told her we were going to live with it the way it is.

The drywall is all hung and he started the mudding & taping today.
