User Rides / Operation: X Marks the Spot - Has Begun
But doing the HO swap, doesn't it involve replacing the heads?  Aren't the HO heads different from the SO?  Somehting about E7?
I would also need the bigger fuel injectors, fuel pump, etc... the price keeps going up.....

I've been reading up on the conversion process here and it seems I need more than what I already have.

Suspension/Steering / Noise from driver side front
***no hijack intended, but I am having a seemingly identical problem with X.  The sound started after I replaced the front struts.
So... I am following this thread closely.  jcassity, that is a good list to start with, thanks.

Keep us posted jpc647!  Cheers!!

Drivetrain Tech / Price of 4 speed automatic tranny

The trans appears to be shifting fine.  All I hear is what sounds, to me, like a rear gear howl.

The tranny does sound okay.  Pop off the drums and have a look at the axle shaft bearings.  This may sound familiar to the rearend problems I've been having.  :dunno:  I used a set of those extender bearings and the sound vanished.

If the bearings are okay, I'd pop the pod open and have a look.
Just my :2c:

Engine Tech / Vacuum Sucks.... but where?

Circled in white. It's between the firewall and block, looks like some kind of vac chamber or sensor.

Thanks.  I'll check it out.

User Rides / The Work Begins...
Well... finally... I've started some much needed work.
Here's the before:

I had originally started this job, just to do the heads, water pump, exhaust manifolds, etc. but decided do go the whole nine yards and pull the motor and tranny.  I mean, look at how bad the grunge is:

Eeek!

Plus, I've got a rebuilt AOD sitting in Cougar A.  So my head job now is looking like this

Although this would have been an ideal time to do the H.O. conversion, it's not gonna happen yet.  For various reasons such as, I'd have to do more homework and spend more money and take more time than I currently have.  Plus, I am still having rear end issues (I'll be swapping the dif out in September when I get the bus back).

Now I can get in there and CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN... and CLEAN.  Oh and then some more cleaning.  Then I'll finish up with more cleaning.  Then clean some more.  :hick:

I'll also be bringing Cougar A back up to the garage to pull the tranny and some other options (more on that to come later).

Someday I'll put in a standard tranny.

This torque converter is a nice blue colour.  Every other tourque converter that I've pulled from these cars has never looked as nice.  Why is that I wonder.

And now I am already to mount the block to the stand.

Then I realized that I had no bolts that would fit to mount the block to the stand.  The bellhousing bolts just weren't long enough.  So, off to NAPA.

I'll keep you posted... and am sure to be seeking assistance as this is technially my first engine rebuild.

Cheers!

*Edit:  Here we go, with the proper bolts!

Engine Tech / Vacuum Sucks.... but where?
It's definitly not EGR related.  EGR is hooked up according to VECI, and no codes are being thrown.

The only thing I can tell you about the codes, is she throws the 51 (ECT sensor out of range indicated / circuit open) in the key on engine off.  In my expierence, this isn't a ghost code thrown because the block isn't at normal operating temperature (it's usually 21 - Cooling temperature sensor out of specified range or ECT out of range).
This is probably because I have discovered a plug that doesn't seem to go any where.

The key on engine running test indicates the computer is running in failure mode.

Screw it.  Just cap it (piece of hose + bolt).  If its a problem, you will find out when you try to drive it.
.
When we do that the motor runs like , if we don't do that, the motor still runs like  :wtf:

I looked if it's the connection on the right rear corner looking at it from the front, it goes to a small round vac chamber or sensor not sure what it does. The bracket for it is bolted to the lower intake and the back of the head.the other hose closer to the middle coming off the intake goes to the pvc on the right vc.
I just looked at the pic again I can see the the part I meant.
Could you please show me what you mean in the pic?  i.e. circle the areas?

Again, thanks all for the help.  This is driving me bonkers.

Also, the shmuck that did the job also damaged a new radiator.

Is there a way to fix this?
