Engine Tech / Fuel Regulator? or?
Here's my issue: 88 TC, all stock. Ran with no problems. I go to start it up,  and it runs for about 5 seconds, sputters and dies. I try to restart. It cranks and cranks but never starts. I check the plugs, they seem fine. They aren't soaked with fuel. I don't have  pressure gauge, so I stick something in the shrader valve to see if any fuel comes out. There seems to be pressure. I go to start it again and it runs for about 5 seconds again and dies. After about 10 seconds, it starts again and dies. So, does that sound like a fuel issue?

Body/Appearance/Interior / Cup Holders?
Okay, I've tried to search this subject, but didn't get much for results. What's everyone doing for cup holders? I mean, besides jamming your drink in between the seat and the console? Any creative ideas out there? I just picked up an '88 TC with a 5 speed and I'm always driving with a drink. This is my first manual trans car. I'd love to see some pictures. Thanks!

Miscellaneous For Sale/Wanted / FS: 96-98 Mustang Cobra wheels Chrome $80 OBO Local Pick-Up
Hello there, it's been a while since I've been on!
I am selling two (2) '94-98 17 x 8 Chrome Mustang Cobra wheels, minus the center caps. 80 dollars or best reasonable offer. They look better than the picture--they aren't yellow at all, I just have a sucky flash. It's not the greatest chrome job either, frankly, I was going to either have them polished, or coated. I’m really not looking to ship them if at all possible, so I’d prefer someone local, please. Inbox me and I’ll get back to you right away. Thank you so much!

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / FS: 86 Tubo Coupe with extra parts
Well, I'm reluctantly selling my TC. It's been sitting at my friend's shop for a while and I just need to make room. I got a new job that comes with a new car lease, so I'm hopefully going to sell my 'Bird to someone who can fix it up. The body is straight, rust on the back window area. It needs an engine. I foolishly ran it too low on oil, and I believe I burned a piston or two. It runs alright until it gets hot, and it doesn't smoke. It has an automatic and the entire car has about 130,000 miles on it (I think...if I'm off, it's not by much). With the car, I also have an A4LD from an 88 TC, complete with computer, harness, shifter, and driveshaft. I have a pair of '91 Mustang spindles, a 7.5 rear from a 98 Mustang, Posi unit with rebuild kit, 3.73 gears, and aluminum Ultimate 7.5 girdle (I forget what it's called). I'm just trying to make room and I really would hate to sell it to a salvage yard or part it out, it's a really nice car--not perfect, but would be a great driver with a rebuilt engine and turbo. I need to pay the back tags on the car, which I should be able to take care of next week, and it also needs a new catalytic converter. $800 or best offer. Please come take it off my hands. I live in Long Beach and the car is at my mechanic's house in Orange County. I'd like to have it sold by the end of the week.
The pics are a little old, but the car hasn't changed at all...

Electrical Tech / Speedo needle jumping, radio cuts out with brake pedal, Charging system issues, or ?
Hello there, I THINK I’ve got an electrical problem starting to develop. First of all, where’s what I have. It’s an ’86 Turbo Coupe. Everything is stock, except for the 3G swap, and an aftermarket stereo (no amps or anything, just the stereo). The 3g swap is probably about six months old, and the stereo has been in there for about three years. I haven’t had an issue with anything until now.

It started about nine months ago. When I would start my car, the idle would pick up for about ten seconds, and then drop down to a raggedy idle for two or three, then go back to normal. I probably should have investigated it then, but I just worked around it—figured it might have been a charging issue and the 3G would remedy it…nope. So for the past couple days, while driving, I’ve been noticing some oddities. The speedo needle would jump while at stoplights, I’d put my foot on the brake, and the radio would shut off and come back on, and most noticeably today, the power would cut in and out while driving. Not completely, it would feel like going from half-throttle to part-throttle. I’m kinda stumped here. I haven’t been under the hood or dash fiddling with anything; this just started and is progressively getting worse. I don’t think it’s the alternator, but I can’t be for sure. The car starts up fine, doesn’t seem to be affected when the lights come on, or any other electrical device, but it still seems to be electrical in some way. Any idea where I should start? Any of these symptoms sound familiar? Need any more info? As long as the car holds up until Saturday, it’ll be a weekend project. Thanks!

Electrical Tech / Lower Degree Temp Fan Switch
Hey there. Okay, I've searched and searched for this subject and I don't believe I found exactly what I'm looking for. I will need your insight and experiences please.

I'm suffering from cooling fan issues with the '86 Turbo. I traced it down to most likely the fan switch. My problem is that I just recently replaced that switch because I thought the old one was bad. Turned out there was some debris in the water jacket that kept the switch from heating up enough. I replaced the switch and cleaned the debris, and the fan started to work, although it would get way up to three-quarters at least before it came on--seems way too high for me. So now, I have a brand new engine and the fan won't come on again! I replaced the fan control relay, and now if I jump the plug at the switch, the fan comes on, and it also comes on with the air.

So, my first thought is to replace the switch once again, but with one set at a lower temperature. Where can I get one? It doesn't appear as if I can just go to Auto Zone and ask for one, they barely know what I'm talking about half the time and this would blow their minds I fear. Still, even if I get the lower temp switch, what are the chances of it working correctly in the stock location?

My second thought is to replace the whole electric fan and switch system. I got a Volvo FMIC and I know I'll have to go with the Ranger Radiator, figured I might as well just go with another type of fan and switch that's more effective. If I do go that route, where would I put the switch? I don't think the stock location would be very wise. What have any of you done? I'd like to see.

Thanks!

LEADS on T-Bird/Cougar Stuff For Sale / 82 Tbird
Got a friend trying to clear out his late father’s things…turns out he had like, 4 storage units full of cars…a couple in particular was this ’82 TBird. I’m not up on this body style so even though it has a V8 in it, I’m not sure if it’s a 302 or a 255. From what I understand, the car is pretty straight and runs, it’s just been sitting for a long time. He’s asking $650 for the ‘Bird, plus, I’m sure no reasonable offer will be refused.

The owner's name is Louis Krebs but I'm gonna be the intermediary. Feel free to call me directly at (562) 708-3002 or email me at pjrentie@yahoo.com.

Drivetrain Tech / Ford Racing Low Ratio Gearset for AOD...
Hey guys, quick question…I have two AOD’s sitting on my garage floor. One stock, one supposedly built up. I was told that the built one has the Ford Racing low ratio gearset (the gearset with the 2.80 1st gear). I want to rebuild the trans because was installed incorrectly, so the clutches are pretty roasted on the inside. Is there a way to check to see if it’s actually equipped with the low ratio gearset?  Can I yank the gearset out and see if there are any stampings on it or any other identifying marks? Thanks for your help!

Electrical Tech / 86 TC Won't Charge
Hey there everyone, long time, no talk...got a problem.

For some reason, my charging system isn't working well. I just had a rebuilt engine installed and noticed the alternator wasn't charging. I replaced the alternator and it appeared to be putting out a little over 14 volts. About three days later my battery is dead. I put a voltmeter on the battery and I'm reading 11.5 volts. I take the alternator back to the store for testing and it tests good. Still, I swap it out.

New alt on, start car, got about 13.1 volts at the battery. The car runs okay, but it will have a dead battery with absolutely no warning. So, tonight, I put the voltmeter on the positive terminal of the alt and get 12.8 volts...at the battery, 12.7. I turn on the lighs and it goes down to about 11.8, radio, 11.6. I decide to let it run for a while...the voltage steadily drops. I let it get down to 10.5 volts before I turn the accessories off.

So, my first thought is the voltage regulator, but if it was the voltage regulator, wouldn't there be around 14 volts at the back of the alternator?

Thanks in advance for the advice.
