Title: 351W C6 Swap
Post by: Fastimz on December 07, 2004, 10:49:04 PM
I have a 1987 T-Bird that currently has the V6 and auto trans.  I have a 351W and C-6 tranny to drop in.  How much problem will I have with this?  I will need the 351 double hump pan.  Will the k member work?  Will the stock type motor mounts work?  I heard it was hard to get a C-6 into the car because the floor pans will need to be bent.  How much trouble is it really?  Will the double hump cross member work with the C-6?  Thanks for any help..First time here.

The C6 will fit fine, I have one in my LS right now. The mounts should work, yes you will need the 351 double sump pan, you will also need 351 specific headers. (for a Mustang).  I had that combo in my old 86 Cougar, there are a couple people on here with 351W. Good luck, it's a fun combo!!! :ies:  :ies:

Would the tranny mount line up with the stock crossmember or will one need to be fabbed?

it will line up just fine, unless you have a QA1 k-member or the like, i think they move everything back like a 1/4" or something...not sure, just what I've read in a car mag...so don't quote me on this..lol

As for getting the 351W in there that is easy.
U can get the C6 in there but that trany takes alot more HP then other ford tranys,  The C4 would be much better or built AOD and u get the OD as well.

I have 351 with a T5 in my car right now and i will be switchng to A833 tranny soon

Really?! What bell housing does it take to get the t5 to mount to the 351; which is a Windsor I assume.

Well 351W and 302 use the same bell housing.
the flywheel u will need to get 351 that has right waight.
its ether 28oz on 302 and 50oz on 351W or its the other way around.

The pliot bearing is the same 302 on that fits into 351 crank.

thats about it

If I recall, 289/302/351W and even a few other engines like the 250 I6 share the same bellhousing bolt pattern. (I think also the RWD 3.8 V6, but it's REALLY late and my brain's dead for the night)

i;m dead tired and hurt,  I was helping a buddy get his car out of snow at the shop and put plywood down to push the car onto so it could roll.  He some how did not under stand the idea of going slow and guned it.  The ply wook shot out the back and got me in just above the ankle and sent me flying.  Dam lucky i dont have my leg broke right now.

On side note his car still stuck

PS i have pics LOL
