ok, so I got my 79 f150 running right, finaly. as soon as I can get a fuel tank for it, (current one leaks above 1/4 tank.) I plan on starting back in on the bird. I have been tinkering with it though. Is there a way of troubleshooting the auto lights? I dont think mine are working at all and was wondering where would be a good place to start. On another note, would it be possible to take auto dimming lights out of another bird and install them into my truck? is it built into a computer, or is it just a basic wiring harness that could be installed into something else with a little work?
I just thought it'd be a cool thing to have that you dont see in other builds.
My turbo coupe came with factory air, since someone has taken it out, along with the motor, and implanted the 289 HI-PO.
I'm hoping I can re-install air con. into the car, I know I'll need to find an air pump and dehydtration tube off a 302/289, but I dont know what else I'll need.
I'm looking for a hood scoop for my 86. preferably something I could make functional, weather it be just for clearance, or ram air. I've thought about just going to a junk yard and getting a couple scoops off a couple mustangs and basicly making a shaker scoop. I've also thought about just mounting a mustang scoop on it. but I realy want to weigh my options. I've seen some awesom looking scoops on some of your post's, but cant find anywhere to look exept carhoods.com and I'm realy not looking for just a high rise hood.
I wasnt sure where to put this one but here we go. I have two projects going right now. lol one is a 79 F150 4x4, the other is my bird. my question is, does anybody know where I can get a rectangular tach. buttstuffog preferably, but if I must go with a digital tach I guess I'll have to. lol in the thunderbird it will go on the dash in place of the digital clock. (with cutting required.) And the other will go on the left hand side of the dash on my truck. something like this.
Today we found out that the fluid pump in the tranny was bad due to the guy who first installed it using the wrong bellhousing and it sandwitched the torque converter into the spline gears and broke the pump. My question is this. how hard and expensive is it to replace this pump? I'm realy looking forward to getting it running and this is the only thing holding the project up.
Ok, I cant find my old post, but, can somebody tell me what all years and models I can get a passenger window out of to replace the missing one in my 86 Turbo Coupe? any help would be greatly appreciated. lol
Also, will a window motor out of a tourus work in my T-bird?
I'm thinking about putting a shifter in my ,86. my question is, do most shifters fit under the console without cutting the console? I'd love to leave most of the apearance stock and still have a performance shifter. but I want to make sure its one with a locking shifter as well, its an auto, and thats a safety feature I will not bypass, I've seen friends do it, and I've also seen some very close calls when their tranny's got bumped out of park and started rolling away. lol
apparently, from what a friend told me, I have a FMX transmission. (dont know)
my question is this, with a 66 289 with a 164 tooth flex plate, and this transmission, does anyone know what bell housing I need, and do I need a spacer plate?
aparently they take a 16th inch spacer plate? again, I dont know.
ok so my T-bird still has the original turbo coupe gauges in it. with that v-8 in it now, should all of my gauges but the tach and boost work still? if so, I can buy an external tach and mount it somewhere. lol I realy hope I dont have to spend the extra money for all those gauges. lol
can anyone tell me the best way to change a window motor and window in an 86 T-bird, I have a window on the drivers door but the motor doesnt work, I have a working window motor on the passenger side, but a busted window, so I need to change the window out on the pass. and change the window motor on the drivers door.
ok so its a 66 289 HI-P0, it had the wrong flexplate in it so we went to take it out, pulled the trany. figured out the new flex plate wont bold up to the torque converter that was in it.
Come to find out, by counting the teeth, it was a flexplate for a 351 motor, so can I just switch the bell housing and torque converter to match the motor, or am I going to have to buy a whole new tranny?
I dont know how much I'm gonna have to spend on getting this thing together right, but I know I need a vehicle to drive daily, and this thing is starting to make my wallet nervous. lol
we were planning on me driving it, my wife driving my explorer, and trying to sell her neon to then buy her a van. but to do all this, I need the T-bird to be a driver, and dependable.
I recently bought an 86 Turbo coupe, with a 66 289 HI-PO motor in it. the body is in great shape, exept a few surface rust spots, but the interior is in need of some tlc. my question is, does anybody know where I can order specific parts online? I'm looking for door panels and a new center console from the shifter back. its a dark blue color.
