Thinking of going 4 eyes....

Well an 86 cougar just showed up at my favorite JY and its got a nice (well by nice I mean not dented or chipped, but DEFINITELY needs paint... hell it's the wrong color anyway) front end on it. I know the swap has been done before, but I only ever see it on birds. Has anyone tried it on a cougar? I know the bumper cover will have to swap along with the header and lights, but will everything match up to the fenders? I'm thinking not....

Any one got some info / pics?

It should be exactly the same as the 4 eye onto a tbird.  Only the indented body line will not line up.  It will be indented about 1/8 - 3/16".  I have an 86 cougar right now also and have the black and blue 4eye 88tbird.

I think you have to drill new holes in your fenders. From what i have heard

Fenders are same minus molding line. They are interchangeable, as are the doors and hood. My frein had a 88 cougar with 85-86 doors on it. I have seen several 87-88's with 83-86 headers at the junkyards.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Im digging this thread up.... I have always loved the rear end on the 87-88 and the 4 eyes front ends.  Since I have both laying around I would love to put the 4 eye front end on the 87.  If everything will bolt up that is great but my concern is what will have to happen to the headlight harness.  That will certainly not be plug and play.  Anyone have any insight on this?

I think the harness has the same plug where it connects under the battery, if not cut and splice.

well it looks like the plug is exact lol they are both male connectors if I remember correctly.  They will have to be spliced, and i did notice the 86 harness did have some extra plugs so Ill check that out too.  I must say an 87 front clip is a PITA to get off when all the screws and bolts are rusted on.

this is as far as I got, its not bolted on yet.  I need a few better drill bits to get the screws for the inner fender off.
