I"ll check the build date tomorrow...I think it was a later 85 build.
Check out that cool gear selector...lol

I found an older pic, when Bear bought the car, and I see the same round one

i would bet it is because nothing else has been changed on the column the shifte is used bad and wiggles, the wipe switch also ( i got a nos one tough without the 2 silver rings painter around the tip of it) the élan package had the 2 silver rings    as well as on the tilt lever(got that one too  nos but with the 2 silve rings painted

im thinking of buying the square style stalk that has the horn icon even if i have the horn button on the steering wheel

what do you guys think?  the one without the horn icon is super hard to find

i could take pics but i never understood how to post them here  the uploader always tells me the kb space is too high

Does your camera have a setting to reduce the resolution? If so try that otherwise feel free to email me the picture and I'll upload it. It sounds interesting.

I'm not sure the stalk without the horn is that hard to find, I'm thinking I have several in a parts box but would have to double check.

I remembered there was a thread in the lead section with a link to that 85 XR7 with 10k on it.  I searched for it and looked at the pictures and it has a round lever also.

Here's a slightly relevant question:

Eric stated earlier that the stalks just twist and pull out. Well, ever since I got my car, there has been no twisting, just pulling out. And it won't sit in there tight. Why won't it stay in? All the tabs seem to be intact...

Pretty sure they changed to the round ones when they changed the dash (85up).

And yea, They just pull out and they always seem to have a tiny bit of rust on them, heh.
I usually pull the stalk from the ones I find in the junkyard as a momento, I've got over 10 or so.
