Title: Console difference?
Post by: 86caprirs on March 21, 2020, 08:40:37 AM
Is there a difference between the automatic console and the manual console other then the shifter cover?

In the full length console cars like my '83 the only difference is the trim plate covers for the auto or stick.  I believe the 83-84 cars got the full consoles and the 85-88 cars could get the consolettes or full length.  I checked Eric's site and my years are correct - https://www.coolcats.net/modifying/console.html

The other thing that is missing is the manual transmission tunnel hump on the floor of the car if the car was not originally a stick car.  You don't have to have one to make it a stick car but they are very nice as it squares up the tunnel so the lower boot seals to the body.  Just in case you do not know what I am referring to here is what you can get for a Fox Mustang:

To get one for our cars you have to remove one from a donor car.

It also gives bit more clearance above the trans/shifter. Things are pretty close in my manual-converted '83.
