In 1986, for a 5.0 car.....  which side is the exhaust?  Trying to ID a car from the pics.:burnout:

Pass side for all engines. 88 5.0's would have dual.

if there's any cluster shots, that could also give you a clue, if it has OD it could be either/or, if it doesn't, it's definitely a 3.8.

if it has a dent in the middle of the hood, its a 5.0

Oh, I thought they were on different sides. 

It had full digital cluster, I assume that could be either engine too???

yes, seen a few 3.8's with digital dash.

This may sound weird, but for years I've noticed that whatever the tailpipe is on, the fuel fill is on the opposite side.

Is there a way to tell by the VIN what engine it has??

Yes, the 8th digit or letter is the engine code.

3.8L is 3
5.0L is F
