Anyone replace the mirror glass before?

My mirrors had some of those giant round things glued to them. Sed them off with some water and a razor blade but the blade scratched them.. Looks like you can get replacement OEM glass CHEAP on Ebay:

Has anyone replaced or torn one apart? It looks like there are ball studs and they *should* just pry out. I'm a little scared of breaking the sockets on the housing though. Anyone done it before? Is it as simple as prying the glass out?

At the shop we use redi-cut mirrors if only the glass is broken.

To get the broken/old glass out it helps to heat it up to release the adhesive. I don't think some scratches on the backer should matter much as long as it is good and clean before sticking the new glass in. I use 3M general purpose adhesive remover to clean up with.

On the ebay piece the mirror backer snaps in to the mirror housing in the center on that metal cross and that is where you need to be careful not to break it. Those long stud looking things are threaded and is what is used to adjust the mirrors. If you get the center unsnapped you might be able to use the mirror motors to turn them all the way out, but they should just pull out.
