So I just had my AOD rebuilt in my 88 Cougar. When I picked it up from the shop the mechanic asked me about the H.O. swap. I confirmed that I had done so. He told me that I should have gotten a TV Cable, and arm off of a Mustang instead of keeping the original. He said that it's causing to much pressure on the cable because the throttle body is different and could mess up my transmission if I use anything past 3/4 throttle. Does this sound right to you guys? I haven't seen any other posts suggesting this to be the case.
I installed air shocks on the rear of my 88 Cougar to eliminate the problem. That way I can fine tune my ride height. Down side is air shocks will loose air over time and will start sagging again. I have to re-inflate them about once a month.
Update. So I've been driving around in (D) for about a year now and finally tried (OD) out again. It seems to be doing fine now. I wonder if I had gotten some trash in the fluid or something that worked it's way out.
I was talking to one of my buddies about lowering my cougar. He suggested that I try using coil spring adjusters. I believe what he's talking about is something like the Mr. Gasket universal coil spring controls. These things are only about $20 bucks. My question is, has any one ever tried these things? I've never heard of anyone using these things. I'm figuring that there must be a reason.
I replaced my stock fuel pump with a BBK 155lph fuel pump about 6 months prior to doing HO conversion. It ran fine with my SO engine. It was a lot smaller than the original pump but it still sat down fine in the original hanger and has worked just fine. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BBK-1527/
