Engine Tech / Help! 1988 TC has no power under load.
Pulled the TC out of the garage tonight to drive it to dinner and once I hit the road in front of my house I had no power. It just putted along. It has not been driven in 2 weeks and it ran fine the last time I drove it. There is a consistent clicking noise also. I can not find where it is coming from. Somewhere on the passenger side or around the top of the engine. The car will idle rough under 1,000rpm and revs freely but once you put it in drive and put a load on it there is no power. I am stumped!

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / For Sale: 1988 TurboCoupe, Timing needs set asking $2,000 firm
Well I bought another mustang for cheap that is good on gas. I have found 2 other turbocoupe's for cheap that both run. Want to leave one stock and put a v8 in the other since the motor is blown. I dont want to dismantle this car for a V8 swap because it is way too nice. Again this is just a theory.

1988 Thunderbird
130k original miles
2.3 Turbo
Automatic
Topend recently rebuilt, new head, valves, etc;
Car has a boost controller set to 15psi right now but can be adjusted higher or lower
3:73 gears
Dual flowmaster exhaust.
K&N air filter

These are the only modifications to the car.

Car has every option available for the year.
Digital climate control
Sunroof
Dual power seats
Auto-dimming headlights
Keyless entry
Much more...

Car is really nice and for the past 2 owners it has been kept inside as it is now. Unfortunately the car has some very light hail damage that is hardly noticeable but for that the insurance company gave it a salvage title. The dash pad has some cracks. Other than this the car needs nothing else!!! I do not have to sell the car.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Help me Powder Coat my rims! Needs color suggestion? (pics inside)
Well, I spent some time looking at my car today while taking a break from working on my Mustang a decided the rims on my TC are whats killing the appearance. So at work we have a oven and Eastwood powder coat gun. Colors are endless and cheap but I am thinking something like....Gray (almost factory), I have a shiny-er Silver color, of course black, even could do the face of the rims silver/gray and then do the recessed parts of the rim black (would show less dirt and be easy to keep clean). Tell me what you guys think.

Easy on the 4x4 comments! lol I plan to lower it some.

Lounge / Herb McCandless' 1972 Sox & Martin Dodge Demon (lots of pics)
As some of you may know I work for Herb McCandless. For those of you who dont know who that is.....here is a quick bio.

Herb started his racing career in 1965, when he became involved with Chrysler’s race program. In 1968, racing became so much a part of his life, that when his then full-time job at a printing company got in the way of racing, he quit—the job. He raced Hemi cars from 1965 until 1974. During the last four years of his career, he drove for venerable team of Sox & Martin, driving their Pro Stock car. In 1974, he started McCandless Performance, and did a lot of the W2 small block test work for Chrysler. He ran McCandless Performance for 22 years and was one of Chrysler’s largest Direct Connection and Mopar Performance dealers.

February 5, 2008 He was inducted into the NC Drag Racing hall of fame.

Enough of that. Todd Warner owns the 72 Demon now and has done an amazing job of restoring it. It is in and out of the shop alot for shows and stuff and this time it was here I decided to snap some pictures because it is going back to Florida for a while and I'm not sure when it will be back through.

There is a surprise at the end of these pictures so look at them all....

(photos removed by request)

And for the finale! Yes Herb McCandless drove a Mustang! He will not admit it in person but I have the proof. lol

Hope you guys enjoy the pictures. Never know when the car will be back so I figured I would snap as many as possible. You get goosebumps sitting in that car.

Here it is in action, one of the most famous pictures in drag racing history.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 17x9 4 lug Cobra R's $450
Car is not running right now and I hate to see the rims sit and get dirty so I'm going to sell them. Tires were all new and I got a flat on the pass rear wheel and had to put one of the old tires back on for it to hold air. Has 245/45's on the front and 275/45's on the rear. Rims were bought new. Not a scuff or scratch on them anywhere (mainly because it doesnt get driven) would rather sell them to someone who will use them. I dont have lugs because I only have one set for my car and I will need them to put my stock wheels back on. Looking for $450 to buy a dirtbike or 4 wheeler. Already found a dirtbike so I would like cash offers first.

Rims are in Hillsborough but I can meet you within 50 miles.
No shipping

Nevermind the shiznitty paint

Lounge / My new job, you WILL be jealous!
Well I started a new job today. Got a call a couple days ago from a friend that says his dad needs some help around his personal shop and he wanted me to just be there with him everyday to lend him a hand around the shop. So I said no problem just let me work out my notice at my current job and I will be there. Well yesterday my 2 weeks was up so he gave me the address to his dads. His name is Mike McCandless and he used to own our local dragstrip...well I never put it together who his dad was until I got to his shop today! When I walked in the shop my jaw hit the floor. There stands a Drag Racing legend! Herb McCandless! aka "Mr. 4 Speed" famous Sox&Martin driver. I have never been so nervous in my life! lol Today went pretty good though we pulled and old duster drag car from behind his shop and cleaned it up. Pulled the motor out of another 61 Plymouth to put in a 6.1 Hemi out of a new charger. Pressure washed the bottom of it and under the hood and painted it. After I loosened up a bit the day went pretty good. Then lunch came around and he said lets go eat, got some guys you will want to meet, I said ok! lol We had lunch with the Race Tech drag racing team and a few other drivers. All in all this has GOT to be the best job ever. I have pinched my self multiple times today to see if I was dreaming. But it is indeed true!

Oh and his son Mike has the Fastest street driven GTS Viper in the world!

Has red interior
Seat worn out some
No rust or major body damage, has dents and scratches
31" Tires

New parts:
EGR Valve

New junkyard tailgate painted to match

Now for the bad:
Needs gas gauge fixed, only works before its about to run out
Drivers window motor
and either the steering column needs replaced and a new ignition switch. The switch is bad but I have no clue really how to fix it. Some say its easier to replace the column.

Thats really the only major problems.
It runs good, has good oil pressure, runs cool, and the 4x4 works good.
Truck itself has 170k miles on it but the engine and trans have been replaced with a 65-70k mile engine before I purchased the truck. That is what I was told. Can not say for sure. The parts listed above were replaced by me.
