Title: It's ON!!!!
Post by: Ether947 on March 31, 2005, 12:05:21 AM
Me and my girlfriend just made a bet over a race 1 1/2 years from now.  Her soon-to-be Infinity g35 Coupe vs. DarkThunder. Neither one of us has been to a drag strip, but i will be changing that soon... there's one right behind my house, errr.... somewhat. Here are the wages, if she wins, i must buy her all new stereo components of her choosing. Prolly because i kepp telling her not to get the factory package. lol. If i win, she must buy two tags for the each of us. Hers will say '8BYTHDR' and mine will say 'THNDRUS'. XD I must win, i simply must. lol. I'll park beside her every chance i get. Now the real challenge is getting my car into the mid 14s (assuming she keeps it 100% stock... including tires). How much RWHP will i need to get me there??? Hopefully she won't reconsider getting an 05 Mustang GT. *shivers*

might want to read up on the rules and the do's and don't for the track before you run...

There are some little things you must know before stepping up to the line. Don't want to see a pic posted of a Infinity g35 Coupe being pulled from a sand pit in the future  :rollin:

Awww, hell. Why spend money when you can play dirty? Have her car run "suprisingly" bad on race day, but "fix itself" the day after and act surprised/innocent.

Examples:
"You know how your car stuttered during acceleration yesterday? I just drove it and have no idea what you're talking about."
"Hey! I found all my heaviest tools in your trunk! What a coincidence!"
"You know, I thought me filling the tank up to full was a sign of how much I care for you. That hurts." *start sniffling*

So what if any mods do you have to the engine??? Any idea what the stall is on that TCI converter??? 3.08 gears ain't gonna be your freind at the track, thats for sure...

yeah get some gears, that will make a big difference. and do some exhaust work. do you have emisions? or do you cair about emmissions? lol. a off road h pipe and headers is cheap, basicaly so are cat backs.

lol. thanks for the responses.

Thunder306: yeah, lol, we are gonna head to the track one day. hopefully next weekend. Huntsville Dragway (http://www.huntsvilledragway.com/) is right behind my house, but the big showdown (lol) will likely take place in MI.

TBird231ci: She has already banned such items from the race.  :rollin:

4thqtr: That full gas tank idea ain't so bad. ^_^ Better yet, put some Subs in the trunk. :giggle:

TurboCoupe50: No mods except for exhaust and the tranny. I think the stall is supposed to be 600 rpm higher that stock. Whatever that was. :dunno: Planned mods: Edelbrock 600 CFM carb, PP Crosswind Intake, Comp Cams 268H Cam Kit, Ported E7 heads, 1.7 RR, Long Tube Headers, and SubFrame Connectors. I want to wait and build up an 8.8 rear with 3.73s or 4.10s and rear disc and not spend the money twice. But if it puts me in the winner's circle i'll do it. Prolly make selling the 7.5 a lot easier too. ^_^

Manson: Yeah i have full exhaust. Which is being sold at the moment, to make way for long tubes and possibly side exit.  Emissions is not a problem here, don't know about MI though.

My sparring partner will most likely be my buddies 85 Mustang. 90 5.0 engine, T-5, 4.10s, Off road H-Pipe and my old Equal Length MAC Headers, Stock lers *lol*, Bilstein Lowering Kit. My car feels way slower than his and he only walks away in fourth. But this was before he got 4.10s... and now i have his 3.08s. :giggle:

Ive heard of consistent 14.0s @ 102mph in the 1/4 out of the Infinity g35 Coupe with a rare 13.9. Im sure that is with a  good driver, so how good of a driver is she lol. Honestly, you need to get some experience under your belt, so go to the strip so you can atleast know your starting point. Can you hit a 15 now? You also need to list the specs of your engine. To get a 13.9-14.0 I think you would need an intake, nice cam, heads(by the time you spend the money on the E7s it would be better to get some TW, AFR, Windsors), 3.73, and def some tires that will hook.

I hope those times are not in a Auto. And i'm heading the track as soon as my Bird is back on the road. As far as mods go....

Late 70s 302, Mystery Cam, E5TE Heads, C4, 2000 stall (just installed), no exhaust at the moment.

Definite Upgrades (Less Anyone objects): Comp Cams 268H Cam (218  @.050 i/e | .456 lift i/e), 1.7 R/Rs, 600 CFM Edelbrock Carb, PP Crosswind Intake, FlowTech L/T Headers w/ matching X-Pipe, 3.73s.

Heads i'm still flipflopping over. I'd rather get some gt40s (non p) clean them up and run em. Unless i find a really really good deal on some aftermarket heads (like the recent one with the GT40Ys) i'll be sticking with boneyard heads. Unfortunately conveniece is now a priority.

Now if everything in my life falls into place i want to add a Vortech kit for a blow-thru setup... but i ain't banking on that. Minus the SC, how capable would you think this setup is?

MI as in Michigan. emissions? what are those? exhaust? you need one? heheh. seriously, there are less car laws in michigan then any where other than cuba. if you have a valid VIN and 50 bucks you can register your "car"

darkthunder- what is the hp on you car?

[edit] Dyno sim says your car (with the mods that you want) will push 394hp @ 6500 tahts with stock bore

bore it .030 over and put the stroke at 3.400 some forged pistons with high compression and trickflow TW heads your gonna push.......468hp @ 6500

^that setup w/ the blower  a vortech 6 psi with 50% intercooler
woah! 586 @ 6500

and with a 25 shot youll push 611 @ 6500

I haven't dyno'd it. That was one thing i wanted to do with the original setup and never got the chance to. Oh, and thanks for the info on the Intake. Found one (ported) on stangnet for $100. Should get here by the end of next week. ^_^ Those numbers are sweet, how much hp without the S/C in the original combo?

A new block will definately be in order for the others... 400 seems to be the limit on the stocker.

394hp

Yeah, Michigan is a special place where there is no emmision testing.  The only issue comes with really loud exhaust. For instance a friend had a cherry bomb on his turbo dodge and buzzed a cop, rattling the windows of his cruiser then got a noise violation/fix it ticket or somesuch

i like everything about it 'EXCEPT' the lift... i want at least .500 inch of lift with 1.6 or 1.7 rockers. preferably with 1.7s. you got one in mind?

Post by: Clayton on April 22, 2005, 11:16:19 PM
as dynoed with this #CCA-31-250-4 .541/.544 lift cam bored and stroked to a 347 w/ TF TW heads youd be pushing 505hp @ 6500  456tq@ 5000 thats without spray ;)

just for kicks.........with a 6psi supercharger....672hp@ 8000  549tq@ 5000

[edit] btw do you have aol/ msn?

Found a used cam! What luck. Comp Cams 270H. .500 of lift i/e, 224 i/e dur @ .050. Power range of 1800-5800, and a nice lumpy idle too. Oh and the stall of my torque converter is 1600-1800. Got some E7s on the way, gonna port those puppies! Been practicing and I'm starting to get the hang of it. All that's left to complete this combo is exhaust and 3.73s, except....you know.... minus the little stuff. XD

Can't wait to get this combo on the road. ^_^

With that cam you will need at least another grand of stall.. I have the 221*/225* Stage-1 Trick Flow cam and my 2600 ain't really enough...

yeah good pick on the cam........

but as tom said your gonna need another grand stall on the torque converter :sorry:

oh yeah, hey tom! dont you need special pistons like dished ones to run E7's?

Question. Would advancing the cam help any? :dunno: Also thought about getting some of those Rhodes lifters. Stoopid stall! :yuck: This would not be a prob if I had a darn 5-speed!

Wow... are the g35's really that quick?  Haha, hate to see a brother lose, but I guess you're kina up creek without a paddle.  Unless of course you have a ton of money to drop on a bunch of mods.

A G35 is basically a Nissan 350Z with about 15 less HP.

I hate to split hairs, but even if it is 200lbs in weight difference, THAT coupled with a 15 HP dissadvantage would make for about a 3/10 ths difference in the 1/4 mile.  At the power levels we are discussing here I think 50 HP less in a car of equal gearing and weight would be more that 3/10 ths.......

Well I don't have to worry about that G35 anymore. The g/f decided to buy a 2006 Accord. I would be worried if it was the V6 but it ain't. After test driving a few stangs she decided that RWD in MI winter is not the best combo. lol. That and Ford kept jerking her around. Oh wells, no race. :(
