Exhaust / Need Replacement Tailpipe - 84 tbird, 3.8
Somewhat surprised that I cannot find this pipe for sale (although the 87-88 comes up).  Is the walker 45852 that fits the 87-88 really different than the the 84?  If not, whats the easiest way to get a new tailpipe on?

Thanks alot

Engine Tech / 84 Tbird 3.8 to 5.0 Swap - Use 3speed auto?
Hey, so Im thinking of temporarily using my auto for this swap (depending on what I opt to put into the 5.0).  Would it be difficult to link the trans to the engine with the 3 speed (IE the kickdown) ?

Thanks.

Engine Tech / Engine harness 3.8 to 5.0 swap
Hey all, well after sitting on this for awhile, I think im going to do a 5.0 swap into my 84 3.8 car.  I have a source for motor and tranny from either 84 or 85 burd, and hardware but unfortunately hes not selling the engine harness.  How difficult will it be to get an ecm and harness?  I was thinking of refresheninf the motor and asking you folks about what upgrades should be added.  Will the 7.5" diff be ok?

Thanks

Engine Tech / 2.3l and c5
Hey all. I have an 84 tbird and am considered swapping out the 3.8.  Does the 2.3l bolt up to the tranny behind my 3.8 (c5? 3 speed auto)?  I may pick up a non running 86 turbocoupe as a donor and want to do project in stages, but want to do motor first.

Thanks

Engine Tech / Oil Leak - Ideas?
Have an 84 bird, 3.8L, 73K miles.  Has developed a significant oil leak.  Trouble is eveything is so wet, its hard to tell what is causing mostly.  I have done the valve covers, 3x since over 15k miles, both with the rubber gasket, then back to felpro cork.  Its not the valve covers.  The bell housing, the oil pain, the front cover, all is soaked, but the drips come off the right side of block area, after running down around the starter mounting area and off the edge of cover that seals off the converter area (by the starter).  Crossover is getting some drips on it and smoking a bit (hard to tell from all the caked on cooked oil on it).  The right side of the block is dirty, but I dont see any significant leak from there in the region that I can see.  Itll drip maybe 4-5 drips per minute just idling, more if revved.

Any ideas?  Im getting close to saying bye to this car, but this is a spare mess around car, but this oil dripping is just too messy to continue.

Thanks for the tips.

Engine Tech / 84 Tbird 3.8, 5.0 swap
Hello all.  I am thinking of swapping in a nice 302 and manual tranny.  Where do I start?  I need an 8.8 rear axle correct?  What car best to get it from?  And transmission? Which manual is best to get?

Thanks

Engine Tech / 84 3.8L Low on Power
I have an 84 Tbird with 3.8L that has weak acceleration.  I replaced the ignition module some time ago after it began cutting out on the highway, and this corrected that issue but still not running correctly, with the weak acceleration.  I replaced the dist cap and rotor, and spent a while playing with the timing, but no improvement.  The car starts and idles fine.  Anyone have suggestions?  The car has 76000 miles, also has newer spark plugs, plug wires.

Thanks a lot!

Engine Tech / AOD in 84 Tbird 3.8l
Hello all.  Im curious what you all think about the effect the 3 speed has on engine longevity as compared to 4 speed.  It seemed to me that the 1988 3.8 motors lasted much longer than the TBI 3.8l, and I always wondered if a big part of it was the overdrive transmission, which kept revs down.

How difficult would it be to swap an AOD into this vehicle?

Thanks.

Suspension/Steering / Wheels - 1984 TBIRD
Hey all, have an 84 Tbird, just finishing getting repainted (black).  I am wondering what the poopular wheel options are to improve the look of this car.  Have the steel wheels with wire hubcaps currently that I am not a fan of.  I have seen posts here about the TRX wheels, which look quite nice from what Ive seen.  Are there aftermarket wheels that people have found to look nice?  Also is it easy to correct for tire diameter on the speedo pickup?

Thanks.

Engine Tech / Connecting to OBD 1984 3.8L
Hey, not terribly knowledgeable on this subject, but if I wanted to connect to the ECM to play around with the calibration on my 84 Tbird, what do I need to do this??

Thanks.
