the oil, temp and fuel guages in my '88 TC stopped working and I'm trying to figure out what wire gives them power. I'm pretty sure the IVR is fine. I was thinking it was a grey/yellow wire on the igintion switch. Any help would be great.
Had a close call today with the '86 TC. I was getting the car ready to take back to school. I had it up on a lift and changed the oil, checked tranny fluid and looked at the front end. The ball joint on the driver side was pretty wore out, but I figured it'd be fine to drive on. Later that day I was putzing around town and the car started making a grinding noise. The grinding started getting worse, then it started to get hard to move the car. About a block away from my garage something snapped and the front left side of the car was practically on the ground with the wheel way up in the fender. The shiznitty old "sealed for life" ball joint pulled apart! Thank God this didn't happen on the interstate doing 75mph! Have any of you guys had ball joints pull apart?
Ok, couple weeks ago I get caught drinking in MN, I get charged with illegal consumtion (I'm 19). I only blew a .038, but they have zero tolerance . Anywho, the officer writes 9-3-05 as the court date, I am a full time student at ISU down here in Ames, so I drive up there and find out that the court is closed on Saturdays and the officer wrote down the wrong date
So I talked to the dispatcher and he gave me the number to the city atty. and I call him the following tuesday. He tells me that he will talk to the judge and see if we can't do this by mail. A day goes by and he doesn't call me back. I start calling the office and as soon as I say my name to the secretary she says the atty is busy and he'll call me back. Never does and I can't get ahold of him. I call the court and they tell me that their ticket says I have to be this Monday. So now I have to drive 2.5 hours at $3.09 a gallon and miss a Calc exam. This wouldn't have happened if I wasn't drinking, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they f*cked up and I'm paying extra for it.
Thought I'd post some pics I snapped today when I was assembling my 2.3. This engine was out of my 88TC. It developed real bad blow by and I ran it low on oil one night. So I got the block checked out, honed, and replaced the gaskets, seals, rings, bearings, etc... I hope to have her running by Friday night, but I'll probably have to be a spectator on Saturday night at the import vs. domestic event.
It was nice this weekend so I thought I'd get out my new 88TC. I bought it in December and haven't driven it much since. The 2.3 in it is insane! It has about 90K miles (the guages aren't original) and is really clean. The engine has been rebuilt with hardened crank, forged crower rods with forged pistons (diamond, i think). Has ported head with big SS valves. 65mm TB, Motorsports A237 cam with adjustable pully. Aluminum oil pan and a windage tray. Aluminum flywheel with a race clutch. Stock T-5 with steeda tri-ax shifter. On the other end of the ported e6 manifold sits a turbonetics t3/t4 hybrid and 3" exhaust all the way back. The car has an eec-tuner and has a 90mm MAF with 55# delphi injectors. I'm sure i've forgot some of it, but I have all the receipts from when the previous owner bought the car. The thing is a blast to drive! It's hard to get traction in first, second and sometimes third. It's never been dyno'd or to a track, but I would guess around 300rwhp right now. The car needs a better intercooler. I plan on getting a big front mount or AWIC before spring so i can crank the boost up to 25psi (it's 18 right now). I also needs a header panel and tail light Here are the pics.
About two months ago I parked my '88TC and the guages worked fine. Yesturday I got in my car and started it up and the tach/spedo work but none of the others do. Later on that day they started working for 5 mins and then quit again. Could this be the IVR? The car was stored in a heated garage, free of mice, so I dont think it's corrosion or eaten wires. Any Ideas?
I need to sell one of my cars, so the '85 TC has to go. The car runs and drives good. It's got the C3 auto for the tranny. The body has rust on it. I'll work on pics. The fuel, temp and oil guages do not work. I just drove a 450 mile round trip with the car and it ran great. I'll work on pics this weekend. The car is located in Clear Lake, Iowa.
