LEADS on T-Bird/Cougar Stuff For Sale / 1986 Bostonian Cougar on Ebay
Everybody check out the 1986 Bostonian Cougar on Ebay in Maine.  Only has 46,000 miles.  Even has the continental kit on the back end.  I guess that's the first '86 Bostonian I've ever seen.  It's very clean.  Somebody explain why an '86 has the '83 stand-up hood ornament.  Was that original, or did somebody swap it out?

LEADS on T-Bird/Cougar Stuff For Sale / like new 86
Hey, since they still have the original window sticker to refer to, I see no reference to the full console option.  Am I missing something?  It was never standard, was it, especially on a GS?  I actually like the vinyl roof option.  Wish my car had it.  So that car only has the number of miles on it after 32 years that I put on most vehicles in 1 year.  Maybe the cleanest 32 year old car I've ever seen.  Think they'll get their asking price for it?  No matter how clean, low-mileage, or perfect it is, isn't there a limit?  Still very nice.  Good luck to him.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Mark VII Seats in a Cougar
I've always loved the Mark VII seats (leather especially, with all the side bolsters).  Has anybody here ever installed Mark VII seats in their Cougar?  If I could find any for sale, I'd love to put a full set in my GS.  Were there Mark VII interiors anywhere close to the Taupe interior of my '86 GS?  I'll probably never find a set anyway, color-matched or not.  Just curious.

Electrical Tech / '83 Tail Lights on '86 GS
According to CoolCats, '85/'86 taillights can be retrofitted to '83/'84 cars with modifications.  There is no mention of going the other way.  I have a perfect set of '83 taillights, and one of the taillights is damaged on my '86.  Could the '83's be installed on the '86 with the same level of modification?  I know the '85/'86 style is preferred, and do look better, but just wondered if it's possible.  Thanks.

LEADS on T-Bird/Cougar Stuff For Sale / NLA -Both my old '80 Cougar XR-7's are available
Chuck,
Are those leather seats in the gray car?  They look fairly nice.  And the white car may be the only manual-shifted '80 Cougar XR7 in existence.  It would be cool to have for just that reason.  Did you build the white car?  I think $1000 for the pair is a steal myself.  I also like the '80-'82 cars, just not as much as the '83-'86's.  My parents had an '81 T-bird Town Landau a long time ago, and except for the gutless 255 with a rear end geared sky high, it was cool.  I can't imagine combining these 2 cars, color-wise.  The white one would be my favorite, drivetrain and chassis-wise.  It they were mine, and money was no object (hee hee), I'd repaint and keep the white one.  Good luck to the owner (or you, as the case may be).  Just don't let them get crushed.  Later.

Eric,
Yup, that's it.  It's in Maryland.  It just struck me as odd to have dual "vinyl" power seats (I always tend to relate dual power seats to higher-end models), and crank windows.  Cool stuff!  It is a good-looking car, but too rich for my blood and way too far away for me.

I didn't remember to look at its location, but I just saw an '86 (GS) Cougar on Ebay.  It's gray, 5.0, Mustang 5-spoke wheels, gray vinyl (maybe leather but probably not) seats.  What struck me as odd was that it appears to have dual power seats, yet they are probably vinyl, and it has crank windows and vented windows as well.  If so, that's an odd combination of options.  Anybody ever seen or have a car optioned like that?  I think it said $2500, and has like 87k miles.  Really good looking car.  Check it out.

Lounge / Ford Focus Question
Oh man, I'm depressed now.  I suppose I kinda knew this as well, I just didn't want to admit it.  In all my years and considering all the vehicle failures I've had, I've never actually lost a motor to a terminal failure that was running when I bought it.  I've bought some clunkers that I bought knowing they were clunkers and usually had to give up on them.  As my budget allows, I try my best to maintain my vehicles and learn their little quirks and know when they start deviating from the norm.  I'd had a neighbor who claimed to be knowledgeable about my car tell me that the 2.0 was a "stroker" motor with very little clearance in the first place.  He actually told me that most of the SOHC motors don't make it to 150k, and I'm closer to 160k now.  Guess I better start saving now for a replacement.  Assuming I get my '86 GS back on the road with a repaired trans, I never plan to use it as my 80-mile-per-day daily driver.  It will have an easy life.  I've got the Ram 1500, but it gets too thirsty.  Thanks for all the feedback.

Lounge / Ford Focus Question
As far as filter, always Motorcraft, on this car it's the FL-400S.  The idle seems low when warm, which really stands out on an already buzzy 4-banger.  Think I'll try 5W30 next time and see if it gets better.

Little bit of useless trivia.  Did you know that the 2.0 Focus and my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 3.7 V6 can use the same oil filter?  My local Wal-Mart quit carrying the Mopar filter for my truck, and the alternate is the FL-400S Motorcraft.  Thought that was cool!

Lounge / Ford Focus Question
All,
First off, not a Fox-related question.  This has to do with my daily 80-mile-per-day driver, a 2002 Focus SE with the 2.0 SOHC motor.  It's in very good condition, has about 155k miles on it, and pretty much only sees highway driving.  I've started noticing that after it's gotten good and 'warmed up' (not excessively hot, temp gauge never goes above midway), my low oil pressure dummy light will come on when I stop at a light.  It only happens after an extended driving period, and immediately goes back out when I take back off again.  Sometimes kicking it into Neutral (oh, it's an automatic) while I'm stopped will make it go out or just kinda flicker.  I made sure to put the recommended 5W-20 oil in it the last time.  I suspect that it means my oil pump is probably getting weak, or my hot idle is too low, which is around 680 to 700 rpm.  Meanwhile, would putting a thicker oil in help it maintain pressure?  I try to always run Motorcraft Synthetic Blend, if that makes a difference.  I think on the oil change before my last one, I'd put 5W-30 in because they were out of the 5W-20, and I don't remember the oil light coming on.  Can someone offer their thoughts?  Thanks.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / '87/'88 Cougar Turbo Coupe?
Has anyone ever known of an '87/'88 Cougar converted to a Turbo Coupe, like a continuation of the '84-'86 XR7?  I know Ford never made such a car, but I don't see any reason why it couldn't be done.  I think it would make a cool car.  Just curious....

LEADS on T-Bird/Cougar Stuff For Sale / '83 White Cougar in Cincinnati CL Area
I just saw an '83 (GS) white 3.8 Cougar in the Cincinnati CL area (actually NE KY).  They say it only needs 2 tires and a battery.  Has the half-vinyl top.  Has a little surface rust but not bad.  Asking $400.  As always, someone post a link for me if you have a second.  Later.

Misc Tech / 84 Tbird temp gauge
Well, I re-read your earlier post, and I had the order backward.  So everything should be opposite from what I said earlier.  Your speedo is showing 22% too high.  That logic says you're running a tire that's 22% too small in diameter.  That too is almost an impossibility, and you already said your tires were slightly taller than stock.  I'm betting you've had lower gears installed in the rear, and the speedo was never corrected.  Or you've got a 3sp trans when it should have been an AOD.  Someone else confirm that my logic is going in the right direction.  Maybe some of this helped....
