Lounge / Yay blizzard!
So i guess it's pretty nasty outside.  My employer, Cyride the public transit bus, has cancelled service today.  I'm not sure they've ever cancelled for a whole day before.  I could use a day off.  Too bad the weather sucks too much to go anywhere.  A ton of roads are closed, as pictured below.

Lounge / What was your first car?
78 Caprice was mine.  It had a massive hole in the driver's side floorboard.  I blew the engine less than a year after I got it.  It had all the power options and everything worked.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Pre-1985 factory stereo
I am looking for a dual-shaft stock stereo for my 82.  I don't care if it's a cassette player or just a standard am.  It doesn't even need to work, as long as it will fill the empty hole in my dash.  Keyword here is CHEAP.

Engine Swapping / Found an engine donor, now what?
I'm am pretty sure I'm picking up a 91 stang w/ 302 HO and AOD to be swapped into my new '82 bird.  I understand it's going to be a major undertaking, having never done a swap.  What exactly am I going to need to convert an old carb'd 255 to a full-on fuel injected 302?  I know I will have to carry over the engine computer, and figure out the electrical fuel pump situation.  Beyond that I'm not sure what hurdles I will need expect.  Can anyone come up with a quick rundown on what will need to be transferred over?

Engine Tech / Hesitation on acceleration - FIXED!!
I just bought an '82 tbird with the carbed 255.  I am having some acceleration issues with it and could use some help hunting down the gremlins.

Symptoms:
Accelerates fine, as long as the throttle is not pressed more than a quarter way down (it will bog down otherwise).  The problem is relative to the position of the throttle, not necessarily the engine speed.  I can floor it, and the rpms will jump and it will run rough, but no noticeable change in acceleration.

What has been done thus far:
The guy I bought it from replaced the fuel pump and rebuilt the carburetor.  Fuel filter is new as well.  I ran through and checked all of the vacuum and electrical connections, and they all seem to be connected.  I checked the timing and set it to 8* btdc.  The pickup in the distributor has been replaced along with all of the parts from cap/rotor to spark plugs.

I have two different opinions from different people:
One says it may be an issue with the spark advancement.  The other says it has to be a fuel-related issue.

So... All of the standard maintenance parts have been replaced.  Beyond that, where do I start looking for problems?  Also, how can I test to see if the spark advance is working?  Something this old uses engine vacuum to determine timing advancement, correct?

Any help is great appreciated.  I am a novice grease-monkey, so try to keep the jargon to a minimum please :hick:

Lounge / Thinking about picking up an '82 and did (now with pics)
I know a guy who's selling an 82 tbird on the cheap.  He bought it from an old lady who almost never drove it.

The Good:
It has well under 100K (50-something?) on it and little to no rust.  The carb has been rebuilt

The Bad:
Needs a radiator but I have a spare one I can install.  The exhaust needs replaced.  It has the 255 boat-anchor engine.

I know the 255 is an underpowered pile of , but how is the reliability?  I can deal with slow, but not with persistent breakdowns.  It has the potential to either be a bone stock show car or a nice sleeper if I ever have the means to build it up.  I am just looking for opinions.  What do you guys think about the ugly and slow  child of the thunderbirds?

Lounge / Grown-up halloween parties
My roommate and I did the super troopers thing, complete with name tags and everything.  Anyone else party it up?

Electrical Tech / Heater core replaced, Yay! New problem, BOO!
I just replaced the heater core last weekend only to create another problem: A flicker in electrical power every 10 seconds or so while the ignition is in either the run or accessory position.  I believe it is wiper-related because the wipers won't return to the stowed/parked position, and the flicker in power doesn't exist while the wipers are running.  I am thinking there might be a loose wire somewhere but there are miles of wiring to look through.  I was hoping someone here has had a similar issue or at least has an idea where to start looking.

Also, I forgot to replace the nut that attaches the dash to the underside of the instrument cluster area.  Is this a critical ground point that may be causing the issue?

Lounge / Where to buy steel tube for exhaust?
I'm looking into making custom lers (or lack thereof) for my bike and have no idea where to find just regular pipe.  I don't need special fit, just the right diameter, i can cut the length.  It doesn't need to be pretty either, as I plan on covering it with full-length chrome heat shields.  Thoughts?  I would prefer an online dealer if possible, i don't have a lot of time to get out and take care of business while places are open...

Lounge / Billy Mays dead at 50
So yeah, the famous oxy clean pitchman is dead.  Go out and buy some Kaboom! Orange Glo, and Oxy Clean.  Clean your house in honor of him.

Lounge / The newest toy!
Picked this up for $3500 (a steal!) a couple of weeks back.  There is plenty of neck-snapping torque   It's a 2002 VTX 1800 with 18,000 miles on it.  How many riders are on the boards these days? I'd like to see what some of you have.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Dipstick and tube for 87 3.8
I was doing some exhaust work and got impatient with the manifolds and busted off my dipstick tube.  Somehow the end of the actual dipstick managed to break off as well.  So yeah... need those things if anyone has something laying around.
