Body/Appearance/Interior / 85 Side Molding Turbo Coupe insert question
Last post by hast2307 -I have a 8 5 Turbo Coupe that I had to take off the passenger side side molding and in doing so, the Turbo Coupe insert fell out. It looks like it was glued into the side molding. Has anyone ever had to deal putting the insert (glue) back into the side molding?
My first thought was to use panel bond, but it is black and the molding is grey. The next thought was to use ultra grey and mix some black paint with it to get the right color grey. Then the thought occurred to me that I could mix ultra grey with black adhesive sealant to again get the right color.
Thanks,
Harry

Last post by Chuck W -Started the car without any additional throttle input this morning. Almost a stall right after start, but it settled out and I didn't have to touch it.
Almost have those crank prime settings and after-start enrichments dialed in.
The ancient MS unit is pretty crude, but it's still better than the stock set-up was.

Last post by Chuck W -While I spent some time yesterday re-acquainting myself with where I was on the wagon project, I also had some time to sort out a couple of loose ends on this project.
At some point last year, I stopped being able to lock the driver door. I'd replaced the broken auto lock switch at some point, and all of that worked, but the driver-side just would not lock because something was binding and keeping the lock from fully engaging.
I took the door panel off and dug in to discover that the lock popper had seized up. This was preventing things from behaving.
I didn't have any spares, so I just disconnected the rod from the latch/lock assy for now. The only hitch is that if I unlock the pass side first and engage the auto unlock, the driver side won't pop and it needs to be open manually. A minor annoyance, but better than leaving the car unlocked.
Also, I took the time today to figure out what happened to my tach signal. I had rechecked the wiring on the harness I removed and altered, and that was all fine. I also knew that nothing on that side of things should be affecting the tach signal.
After a bit of tracing and ringing out wires, I found the culprit.
On the DS there is a 6-pin connector that contains the wire to the tach. Now, bear in mind, the wiring diagrams for these show almost nothing for a tachometer. They were a rare item in the LTD/Marquis. Took some digging and interpolation of things to find what I needed.
What I think happened is that the signal for this was tucked in with the TAB/TAD smog solenoids, which were removed. I probably pulled the wire out and de-pinned it from this connector when I yanked all of that garbage, not realizing what it was.
I wound up running a new wire to that connector and we again have a working tach.

Other than some tuning stuff and eventually swapping to a NBO2 sensor, this particular project seems to be wrapped up.
Now to get some good weather and clean roads!

User Rides / Re: My 85 TBird
Last post by bodyman -The tempo window runs seem to fit really well with some careful trim work where it meets the belt moulding and vent window. The 80-96 ford truck window run was a perfect match for the vent window section. I did a little experimenting with the Tempo runs to see if they would work on full window cars, I think there is some potential there.
The cut out is where the tempo run changes directions and runs down the front of the door. The cut out allows it to lay flatter in the tbird door to reach where it changes direction. I didn’t spend much time trying to get the angles right for a better splice at that point but I think it would be doable. Not sure if that notch will create a wind whistle, but maybe some careful urethane work would seal it back up.

Last post by EricCoolCats -I cant speak from the administative or setup end but from the user perspective i have yet to see any forum improve by updating or switching over to a "better" setup. Not once in over 25 years using forums.
Everytime i see this situation it becomes "we lost this when we did this and cant get it back" or "we did this to get these modern social media features that nobody uses but we lost all our archives and images people uploaded 10 years ago" .
It aint just not liking change it always comes with loss.
Oh this is very true. We lost image links when we moved from vBulletin to ElkArte. Alex has given several good attempts at fixing the links (I believe we have the images still in our hosting space) but it never worked. And chances are decent that it can happen again if we move to a different board software. But if we get someone that can do the translation for us, maybe they'll have better luck at fixing everything.
Our minimum requirements for PHP is v8.0 and that's where we're at right now. And it took a LOT of work to get us there. If we get a notice that the minimum will be any higher than that, the board software update will fail unless ElkArte comes up with a hot fix, which I wouldn't hold my breath for...they have been rather slow at rolling out updates in the last decade. So then we would have no board at all. Would you rather have a board exist and mostly work, or no board? That's the situation we're in as far as the admins go.
Translation between boards is never perfect. We can try to mitigate that with an outside developer that knows message boards and their database structures. Or we can trash everything, start anew, see where things go.
