with all the mpg talk around here lately, it's starting to sound like broncozone :giggle:

You don't modify a toy/fun car for mileage you do it to go fast. I always hear people complaining "my blah blah only gets 15 mpg" when they only drive it to car shows. Who cares its a fun car. With how little it gets driven you can afford the gas.

If you want good mileage get an economy car (I did). It's really hard to get good mileage with a fast car. The Mustang averages about 23 in a mix of heavy city traffic and highway. The Focus gets about 26 in heavy city traffic and above 30 mpg in the same mix. Yeah its slower but I only have to fill it every two weeks. You can't have your cake and eat it too ;).

oh thank you thank you thank you!!! words spoken from heaven!

of course, i usually get the counter statement of 'well i can't afford another car'.. to which i say 'than you shouldn't be modifying the 1 you have now..' some people are just super thick headed, though..

I like the newer engines.  They're just not within most hot rodder's budgets right now.

Plus I'm pretty sure a 3.7+trans is probably going to be pretty expensive. It's not like you can go to the local pick a part and find a 2011 or 2012 Mustang sitting in the yard.

Give it a year or 2....
On a related note, isn't the same transmission mated to the new 5.0?  I'm sure you could find one on the cheap on Modular Fords or S197forum if that's the case.  You can find low mileage 5r55s transmissions for a 4.6 for around $300 bucks.  Put in a hardened input shaft and a converter and those are good to 700 HP with a trans cooler.  It's been done a few times.

I am def not a fan of how the 3.8s sound. The 3.7 can be made fast and get good gas mileage while doing so Thunderjet302. Id bet Horsepower per miles a gallon, the new 3.7 would beat a 3.8.  Im already keeping my eyes on the new V6 mustangs in junk yards but right now they are too pricey but thats okay because im a student paying for college. But a can promise you that id be the only turbocoupe with a 3.7 and that would be pretty cool. Atleast in my eyes.

I was going to say something, but I don't want to offend and we are all freinds here. Hp and mileage go together, to a point. Technology is a good thing.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
