It was recently announced that Kevin Marti @ Marti Auto Works has secured the licensing rights to run his production reports for the ’74 and newer Ford cars & trucks so it may not be too much longer before we will know everything there is to know about production breakdowns and how many other cars were produced that are just like your own.
I think those Bullitt's do look really nice on there, and I wouldn't have thought that until Sleeper posted that picture. But I am going to vote for the 10th Anniversary wheels, I would like to see someone put a set of these on a T-Bird/Cougar so they can be the guinea pig before I buy them for my car. ;)
If your working on the buck tag code's you may want to check out http://www.foureyedpride.com it's mostly mustang stuff geared to the four eye car's but they have lot's of buck tag info.

Agreed, that is a great board over there. I used to frequent it quite a bit until I sold my '86 Capri (asc/McLaren EuroCoupe) last fall.
From the few tags that I have info from, there is suprisingly much less stamped on the Cougar tags than what is on the Mustang/Capri tags.
Will do. Anything inparticular that your looking for on the buck tag?
I actually just found a set of ten hole's with the cougar center cap for the car so now it's even closer to being your twin. :D

I removed mine to install a Motorsport intercooler. I saved it but after 15 years and 2 moves, it's no where to be found. I'm going to try and duplicate my original bucktag so I am trying to get as many examples of other '85 XR-7 buck tags as I can to decifer the codes and be as accurate as possible.
I also get a LOT of people who absolutely do not believe that it came stock with a 5-speed. Some of them come around after you I tell them that it is basically a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe in Mercury clothing but they still question the 5-speed part.
"All Cougars of that era were automatics, someone must have changed it before you bought it."
By that time I just give up, it's no use trying to convince them otherwise.
Yeah, maybe I'll just keep looking around from time to time. I saw plenty of MN-12's yesterday...blah. I'm tryin to make a replica of what my car looks like...lol. So I need to buy a 'Stang also, that way I can use the 10-hole rims...lmao. Yeah, I have too much idle time.

Don,
No mass produced kit out there that I have ever seen has the 15" 10-hole wheels in it. Every Mustang kit that I have seen will be of the GT model and it will have the Turbines in it.
Years ago I bought a resin body of an '85-'86 TC. You would combine this body with the Monogram kit to make and earlier style TC, it also came with the proper 15" 10-hole wheels. It's still in the box because I don't trust myself to screw it up putting it together. I figure I'll have some master modeler do it for me so it's done right.
If anyone out there knows of a regular mass-produced kit that was made with the 15" 10-hole wheels in it, please let me know.
That Geometric design grill & ground effects were made by Spoilers Plus and was also sold through Ford Motorsport. It was first offered in their 1987 catalog and then last appeared in the 1990 catalog. Ford didn't sell the kit as one part number, it was only sold a-la-cart. The part number for the grill only was M-8200-A621. The rest of the part numbers were:
You could get the front air dam either with or without fog lamp openings.
M-17626-B621 - Front air dam with fog lamp openings M-17626-A621 - Air dam without fog lamp openings
It seems to me that Spoilers Plus also offered the more traditional looking grill in their catalog but I don't remember for sure. I have their catalog in my collection too but it's currently buried do to a basp00get remodelling project.
BTW, the suggested retail price of that grill in "the day" was a whopping $250.00 !
I stumbled across this thread while doing a search so if it's old information I appologize.
For '85 & '86 XR-7's the lower bodyside molding was a Dark Charcoal color regardless of the exterior color. The lower bodyside paint was either Dark Charcoal or Argent (light gray) depending on the main color of the car. As for the three pin stripes, if the lower bodyside paint was Dark Charcoal, the stripes were Light Oxford Grey and if the lower paint was Argent, the stripes were Oxford White.
For 1985 the color combos were:
Upper color/ Lower color/ Stripe
Oxford White / Argent / Oxford White Med. Charcoal / Argent / Oxford White Med. Canyon Red / Dark Charcoal / Lt. Oxford Gray Black / Dark Charcoal / Lt. Oxford Gray Silver Metallic / Dark Charcoal / Lt. Oxford Gray
For 1986 the color combos were:
Upper color/ Lower color/ Stripe
Oxford White / Argent / Oxford White Smoke Metallic / Argent / Oxford White Med. Canyon Red / Dark Charcoal / Lt. Oxford Gray Black / Dark Charcoal / Lt. Oxford Gray Silver Metallic / Dark Charcoal / Lt. Oxford Gray Med. Regatta Blue / Dark Charcoal / Lt. Oxford Gray Sand Beige Met. / Dark Charcoal / Lt. Oxford Gray Deep Shadow Blue / Dark Charcoal / Lt. Oxford Gray
BTW baXo, that's a very nice looking XR-7 you have there.
