Title: I just want to say...
Post by: Beau on February 10, 2018, 05:22:42 PM
That, having been a member here for the nearly 14 years, and seeing how relatively unchanged this place has been, I want to thank Eric, Carmen, Chuck, and everyone else that's helped this place get to where and what it is today.

I was looking at another forum (gun forum) and how much they've changed, ie; sold out to corporate forum ownership and realized that we're lucky here. It's kept up by true fans with passion, rather than driven to be a profit generator.

For that, I applaud and commend you guys. You shagin' rock, keep it up.:bowdown::bowdown:

PS, there will be a new addition to my herd before long. It's a 5.0 and was born in Lorain in late '87.. ;)

I guess no one remembers the Tom Renzo years??????????????? Luckily Carmen finally shut him out...

The board is mostly what it is because of the members, not the management...

If anything, renzo helped me with improving my typing.

Not going to say sorry he's gone, though.

There have been a few members who had brief stays here, some were colorful (imgayashell), and some were just sheer drama queens. Anyone that was here in the old days (ezboard) and when this place first got it's own domain will remember a couple-three names. I won't mention them so as to not cause more drama but there it it is.

My main point was, in the sea of changes that forums by and large have made to stay active, this place is about the same as it always has been, tight knit, small, and never sold out, thank god.

I know some folks made monetary contributions to ensure that, and when that times come again, I'll jump in too. The info, laughs, and sheer hours I have spent here can't have a $ value...

Thank you.

he's exactly and i mean to the letter, the very personality type i have to work around every single day since i started in telecom 93.

i know how to deal with people like him, you look at people like that as  a cup half full.  deal with them and you wont have problems dealing with anyone.

Ive been off and one here for many years, and yes I remember the Renzo stuff I saw.  It is truly a blessing this site is here and the way it is run so well.  Our cars are "forgotten" by the mainstream, but I always come here to look for parts, advice, and tech info.  I truly appreciate all you guys and, I will give any advice to others that I can help.  Been a great site,.... and a better group of guys.

Wow so I come back from the dead and here is a post talking about Tom Renzo from back when I was frequenting the site most often lol. I must not have been around when he left, did he get banned?

I will say I was happy to donate what I could to the server support fund back in the day, and would be happy to do so again. EDIT: I just found out there was another one in 2014 and sorry I missed it... It is so refreshing to come here and interact with a board that is not dominated by ads at every post. (I've been lurking around a lot of mustang forums lately)

Plus most everyone here is dedicated to the platform and cares about helping other members rather than just throwing their 2c in where it doesn't belong like a lot of other sites....

So, put me down for +1 on that, Sport :D

I've been a member for awhile mainly because of the quality of the site. The members and their advise are greatly appreciated by this "rookie". All the questions I've asked are always answered and the information provided is excellent. Unlike some other sites with a million ads you ask a question and get mostly comments with very little usable information. I made a 3in binder copying the information on this site which has helped me re-build my Turbo Coupe. Couldn't of done it without you. Again, my "Thanks" for the great site and all of your help.

TOMMM RENZOOOOOOO heheehee I used to laugh so hard at all of that.

Look at the Corral...same problem as mentioned above. I remember when that place was like a dive bar. Reading all of their banter was just awesome.
They would bust balls so bad. It was hilarious.

Cheers! DILLY DILLY

I've been around since the old EZboard days. I am glad to see that the forums are still around. They don't drum up the activity they used to, but they are a wealth of knowledge. I've been into these cars since I was 14, and digging through my old posts really shows how much I've learned and how much of a dipshiznit I was.

Man, I could name drop so many people that have come and go.

Laterz and takes her eazy.

Hey, thanks! Yep, black 88 LS. That car I still have but it's been sitting dead a few years, not in the best of shape lately. I'll update the project thread sometime soon with the current condition and story behind that Don't wanna hijack this one :)

Back in the early days, I remember weasel and his ed black Cougar...he'd done so much work to that thing...

And another really cool Tbird...can't remember the name, but he had some custom wheels for it, and it was a supercharged, blue Bird...

There was a video he'd posted....accelerating down an on ramp...car was stupid fast...
Think his s/n was Thunderhawk???

I think you’re referring to Glenn Hawkins (The Hawk)

Well , we are way older than then. I learnt how to fix my ever-breaking cougar every weekend. I still have it, but i has not run since 2005. City Hall towed from the front of parents house, got them back and parked at the driveaway from dad´s apartment...i simply cant get rid of it, these cars are unforgettable.

So, to speak something, i remember some troublesome guys...

I havent been here when the TomRenzomania was here, but i saw it was pretty controversial...

I remember when Ben (Bird351) was here...he had no problems whatsoever voicing his opinion very loudly...but i liked the guy....

Another kid like me was 84Fila...some troubles he had here with Eric...last time i heard from him he was deployed to the army or So...

But not all were bad guys, i remember too , Eric sent me a copy of a Tiger OSX DVD from Ohio like 14 years ago...it was virtually impossible to get even a pirated copy here at that time..i still owe him the postage stamps...

Mr Burrows (Thunderchicken) helped me to track some problems with my car audio devices which were blowing every now and then...i remember him to want a turbo 5 cilinder volvo some years ago, and that did not go well..

Tom and Scott (Turbocoupe50 and jcassity) helped me to learn about carburetors A LOT and that served me until this day...even that guy named Claude (CougarSE) which did a T5 swap in a 3.8

Thats some to say a few, i remember more members but few names...i m just getting old...

 Heck, i learned english here...

He ended up losing his mind. Got into making spiritual candles and other unusual stuff for a man of his intelligence level

He tried to scam me for a convertible top motor. Baxo told him to get me a tracking number for the motor or he will be banned. Once I received the motor, Baxo banned him anyways. He wasn't a bad kid, just very misguided.

All of these old guys are still around. I think Claude bought a farm and still has his Cougar with the T5 swap. He and I spent hours researching part numbers and diagrams figuring out the T5 swap. That was a good time

It's funny you mention this, CougarCragar used to spend hours correcting my spelling and grammar that I eventually learned how to write very well. So I practically learned English here too.

Were you around for when they were doing some blasting in his area, and showered his car with little rocks and he had to get it repainted?
Title: I just want to say...
Post by: Beau on March 18, 2018, 05:44:08 AM
I remember something about a repaint but the why of it eludes me. Is he still around, anyone in contact?

There was another feller, down in south Missouri IIRC, had an '87-8 Cougar that he'd done a DIY TT setup on the 5.0, seems like his name was David. He was more active on the MN12 forum I believe, or maybe it was TCCOA. I was a meber at both way way way back when. Haven't been to either in probably 10 years now.

Amazing, what the mind can recall in the small hours.

Oh, we're expecting baby #4 sometime around mid-late November.

Go me. Or something.

Guess I need a new hobby. Maybe I'll take up knife sharpening and...perhaps some DIY vasectomy classes. LOL.

Well to everyone that still appreciates us, from all the admins, we thank you for hanging around here. And we also appreciate that most everyone is behaving well these days. ;)

I havent been here when the TomRenzomania was here, but i saw it was pretty controversial...

Tom started off seeming to want to help people. But he did like to go off on his soapbox quite a bit. And Heaven forbid your opinion contradicted his. Problem was, he sometimes had good technical info, plus his long disappearances contributed to his longevity here. It's been peaceful without him, that's for sure.

Quote
I remember when Ben (Bird351) was here...he had no problems whatsoever voicing his opinion very loudly...but i liked the guy....

Well that would make one person that liked him. Ben played the 'poor me' card way too many times and always used that to his advantage. Then, like a Venus flytrap, he'd spring his derision at will. He was a true troll. Believe me when I say that there were many, many messages exchanged between the admins about him. I wanted him gone long before he was excised like the parasite that he was. Maybe by now he's dealt with his demons.

Quote
Another kid like me was 84Fila...some troubles he had here with Eric...last time i heard from him he was deployed to the army or So...

My biggest issue with him was that he was local to me. I tried to take that kid under my wing and guide him, and he would just turn around and screw people over and make me look bad in the process. He was great at apologies but not at following through with promises, and quite a few people got burned. He did join the military but I never heard from him again. And for the record, he tried very hard to make a mountain out of a molehill with his Fila model. Granted, it's quite rare to find a decent one now, but his wasn't even decent back then.

And it's awesome, I'm so proud of you. By the way, your English was never bad, you must have had decent previous training. We just helped you refine it. Hopefully you've learned all the choice curse words from us! ;)

LOL Yeah...Will isn't really active with the car in the last 5+ years. He got married a few years ago. He got back into running, like cross country-style. The car was supposed to get a twin turbo setup that was previously on a Mustang, but of course Will got screwed over on that deal. He's had a lot of bad luck, with both the car and life in general. But he takes it all in stride. That reminds me, I should call him soon. Need to invite him back to the board here.

Trust me, his demons got worse. I talked to him quite a bit even after he was banned. We eventually stopped talking, for no particular reason, but we were still friends on Facebook. He ended up dabbling in some weird , and then going on soap box rants where he tried to be vague, but everyone knew exactly who and what he was talking about. I ended up clicking "Unfriend".

Hard pass. Oh yeah, guy wanted 4500 OBO. I offered him 250 just to piss him off, her told me to leave lol.

There's another one, but he wants 7500 and it is likely worth it. 5 lug swap, efi 351, big brakes, etc.

I can't spend that, not when I'm remodeling my basp00get. Guess I'll be content with a Foxstang for awhile longer LOL.

Newest of these cars is 30 years old. You'll either find clean, nice cars that cost $$$$$ (and are worth it) or rusted/damaged/beat up POS cars for cheap. Most all the cheap ones are POS cars now.

I have to agree with you about this site. I love it and hope it lives on forever pretty much as it is. This place and the members on it have been very very forgoing with their knowledge on these platforms in which I fell in love with we I first saw Bill Elliott driving it in 1983.
The different opinions, and views are awesome. It's nice to have a place to gather and talk about what we want to do with are cars and not get flamed (too much) LOL
