Drivetrain Tech / sn-95 v-6 t-5 behind a 5.0
I dont have any connectors with looped wires. which wires would need to be cut and spliced? i can do the solenoid jump to test it. I guess ill have to pay someone much smarter than i am to do the rest.. Im super frustrated cause i need this car running and cant seem to get it right.

Thanks Kevin! I actually got the 302 flywheel and clutch for an 87 f150 so it should be correct now. also i only have 2 wires that come down and plug into the trans, one is the reverse light and the other the speedo sensor.. how would i do the neutral safety switch? and also the old starter(big one) only has one wire to it. the new on(small one) has a place for the one wire but also has one already on it, how do i wire that one... to the negative battery terminal? that all i have left to do and it should be done completely! im excited to say the least lol

Ok so i wanted to share my progress, and ask a couple questions. So far I have the clutch, flywheel, and trans in. got the shifter in and new center console fitted. I was wondering about the trans cross-member and mount... what did you use? ive tried reusing the one i have on the old aod and the one from the sn95 neither seem to fit. also what did you do to wire the new starter in? im not an electrically savvy person at all lol... anyways any help would be appreciated!

I know we have kind of spoken through comments back and forth a bit about a trans swap, but i need your help if you could lend some! I was going to rebuild my old AOD(too expensive) so i got one from a pull apart yard( tail shaft was too big) didnt wanna pull it apart myself, my knowledge isnt vast enough. So, I bought a 97 v6 mustang with a t-5. I want to swap it into my 88 t-bird 5.0. I read your write up on it and i wanna make sure i have it straight...

-I need a T-5 with bell housing from my v6 sn95 - check
-Pedals and clutch cable from a gt fox body stang - need
-92-96 F-150 5.0 manual trans mini-starter - need
-1980's F-150 (4.9l im assuming) 11'' clutch kit - need
-1980's F-150 (4.9l Im also assuming) 11'' Flywheel - need

this is what ive gathered from your write up, What other parts are absolutely necessary for the build so i know what all i need to get it done in a couple days? I NEED this car running before the end of the year. Any and all info that i dont already have would be amazing and much appreciated!!

Thank you

Also i tried to PM you but it wouldnt let me due to lack of space lol

Drivetrain Tech / t-bird '88 5.0 AOD to t5 swap
so now that ive had a chance to read the response... so i need a pedal assembly from a fox? and then the few parts from the f-150, and jumper? also, im not sure how to tell the oss vs vss, my t bird has the digital dash, does that make a difference anywhere? or make any problems?

Drivetrain Tech / t-bird '88 5.0 AOD to t5 swap
Just bought a 97 mustang v6 with the T5 and bad motor(going to do a v8 swap into it), and heard the bell-housing will work on the 302 and the T5 since it makes up for the input shaft? is it possible to do this swap in my Thunderbird? if so what clutch pedal assembly should i use? can i use the one from the 97 stang? or would i need one specifically from a fox? Thanks for any help! I Need to get this done ASAP!

Engine Swapping / 4.6l and tranny swap into my '88 T-bird

It’s not on the road but the motor swap is pretty much done.

http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?33763-My-85-TBird

4.6 k member spaced 5/8” down under main rails 1/8” under lower mount. Modded rad support to fit 4.6 coolers. I modded the trans cross member mounts but I believe you can purchase a custom cross member. Custom drive shaft. Computer sent in to eliminate PATS and set up for a return type fuel system. Lots of things to consider, hood clearance, exhaust clearance, custom ac lines etc.

What a great project bodyman! I would love to see it finished! Also, I have the mechanical ability to do it so I'm not too worried I can't wait to read your entire write up

It will fit, its not much different then a 4.6 swap on a fox stang. I wouldn't mind seeing it done. If you already have the block and parts, I say go for it.

First thing though, mustsng motor mounts don't work with the stock k-member. I would probably swap to a tubular unit for more clearance, adjustability and to use stang mounts.

Wiring will have to be taken from either a donor car or wired up using a stand alone aftermarket job.

Everything else should pretty much go right in.

Ive dropped an adjustable k-member in from lmr, so thats taken care of. Also, the 4.6 and trans will be coming out of my '08 p71, the rear axle busted and figured i could just use that beast for the donor. I have the wiring and everything. Also, both the engine and trans have been rebuilt with better internals and last i checked it was pushing 301hp at the wheels( i plan on getting those numbers up) :hick:

I would suggest that you get a Fox Mustang k-member for a 4.6 motor as that will greatly help with the swap.  Mechanically this is an easy swap but electronically this is not for those that cannot use a DVM or wiring diagrams.  If this is your daily driver then you may want to back up and punt.  It sounds like your 4.6 is making good power if you have dropped some change into it so if it was me I would go for it but I enjoy a challenge.

I have a pal that works with wiring i think could handle it. Also, i have been dropping in parts from LMR so ive already taken care of the K-member!

I wouldn't bother unless it's a 32v 4.6

But since you already have the engine/trans.....

Id love to drop a 32v 4.6 or even a coyote in it but my budget is a little too tight for that right now :/

nab a explorer motor and put springs and a cam in and nab a low mile aod from a junkyard and throw a shift kit in it. a 4.6 swap will require a lot more money, make less power and be a giant pain

So, would it be worth more my while if i just dropped a t-5 in and beefed up the 302? that would always be an option. there is a local guy selling an HO motor for 400$ i could nab and beef that up perhaps?
