Parking brake

Okay, I just got to college and went to set the park brake...about 3/4 of the way in, something sounded/felt like it popped off and it no longer is giving me resistence. I didn't have time to test if the brake is set or not but I bet it is. Anyone have any tips on what to try out when class is over? The pull-release should still work, shouldn't it?

Also, what came undone? Easy fix? I "think" I have my haynes in the car so that should help.

oh, I did try releasing and the pedal popped back, but pushing it in gives me no resistence. Is the brake stuck on or off?

well, class is over (got out early) and it turns out that its released but the brake can't be set. Anyone have an easy way to get the thing functioning again? I'm guessing the problem is at the pedal but I have no idea. I'm sure someone here has had an identical problem before so help a buddy out ;)

Too bad its raining right now

If you look under the car u should find some cables and lever type things, maybe one of them has snapped. they will lead right into your rear brakes one on each side. It is unlikely that both sides broke at the same time so I'm guessing that the lever mechanism may have broke.

I guess there's a few spots that could be messed up...was thinking it was just the connection to the pedal but I guess I won't know until I look  :(

rain finally let up and I went back to work on the car. Fixed leak in trunk (area where spare tire is was nearly filled with water), took lining of trunk out to shampoo and let dry, and looked at the parking brake. The front cable that connects from somewhere near/in the interior to the "lever type thing" either snapped or the metal piece clamped onto the end of the wire that attaches it to the lever came off. Where does this wire run to and what's the easiest way to take it off? Also, I have NO idea where to find a replacement that's the correct length. Anyone know?

It doesn't look necessary to jack the car up (and I don't have an area to right now) but my manual says to stick it in neutral when working on the park brake. Too bad we don't have any rocks or bricks laying around...I'll have to find something to stick behind the tires.

Thanks in advance
