Probably been beat to death already, but I'm looking at how well does a tubular K-member hold up to everyday street use? Ya know, like hitting a pothole at 65 mph, and other non-strip forces.
I have various '87 Cougar XR7 parts for sale, such as rear quarter glass, emblems, black trim pieces, rear lights, lighter grey carpet, back window (package tray) carpet, etc... I know some of this stuff would be a PITA to ship, but I'll see what i can do. Certainly not in a rush. With my job tanking, I'll have time to tear down my trailer house (to the wife's strong urging) which is where this stuff is stored. Various other Ford truck parts as well. Located way up in Two Harbors, MN.
With the hubcap removed, what's the wheel look like? I've searched this forum and found no pic of any car with the hubcaps removed. Is it a solid steel wheel?, or does it have the holes in it like most modern wheels?
15" wheel, 5x4.75" BP, and about 2.75" center hole. Couple things to note...there are only 2 nubs for the hubcap, and the stem is almost on the outer edge. The wheel is welded as well. So It apparently is newer than mid 60's or so. Anyone?
Measured 3.5" backspace, and 10.5" or so from outside of nubs.
Hi my name is Scott, and I am a Tbirdaholic. Here is my build thread estimated to take about 4 or 5 years. I don't want to know how much it costs. I mentioned I would start this thread when I had my flathead tore apart for my other project, a 1948 F1 pickup. Well today, 3-16-09, I found my engine is toast. So on we go. :) Up to this point I have been doing research and gathering some parts. The goal is to create a street car that can embarrass ricers at will. I have no idea how fast this car will go with the "boat anchor" I am using. I am a truck guy not a car guy, so my claim is "Torque First". I will add to this thread when I can, but it should be understood with today's economy, it will be slow. Wish me luck, eh. :o
It got above 40F finally, and though I don't think it'll stay, at least it'll melt some snow! Can't tell by the pic, but it dropped a good foot or so the last couple days. And I can finally get into my old trailer house. Here's the living room. The back room is where all the tbird parts are. :D Just thought I'd share some Spring cheer, lol.
I've seen that cougarman has the '03 Mach 1 magnum 500 wheels on his cat. I've been looking at the aftermarket magnum 500 for the Mustang, but it didn't label them as being '03's. I also was looking at the Magnum 500 wheels for '05 and newer, but they have much more offset. Then there's the older Mopar magnum 500's. Anyone seen any of these on Foxes?
Steering Axis Inclination. Looking at options for my '87 TC. If I go with the current K-member and 83-85 A arms, my stock wheel centerline should be inboard 3/4" right? So would the stock SAI change if measured through the older style A arms mounting points? So if I go with a wheel that has more backspace and less offset, my wheel should be outboard a bit, but how will that affect my scrub radius and SAI? Has anyone figured it out? Plus, what is the stock offset and backspace? My car came with 4 different wheels.
My thought is running an older style steel wheel from the early 70's. However looking at everyone's Cobra R's and the offset they have, I have to think the stock suspension will "tram line" if I go with an older wheel (less offset). Shortening the suspension width by switching up the A arms seems like the only feasible way. Unless I can find an old style wheel with the same as stock offset. Have I confused everyone yet? no? Maybe I'll try harder next time, lol.
