Lounge / By By Bird (well for a few months)
November 1st is almost here and my Bird is going to be put away for 5 months till April 1st. So tomorrow I'll be changing the oil, flushing and filling the coolant, dumping some stabil in the gas tank, and polishing and waxing the Bird before I put it away. I've got a garage and a cover for it so it will be safe this winter (like all the other ones since I've had it). Just made me think today " winters comming along with 5 months of suckey weather". I live in Chicago so I have to put the Bird away Nov. 1st cause we usually get snow sometime in Nov. and even if it's only 1/2 an inch they'll salt. I can't let a car that looks like this get ruined by salt.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Anybody good with computer art?
Hey guys I have a favor to ask. If any of you are good with computer art I was wondering if someone could design a intake cover plate for me. I looking for something to replace the standard 5.0 Liter EFI intake plate. I was thinking something along the lines of the cobra style intake plate but having it read 5.0 LITER THUNDERJET with a 85-97 Bird logo underneith it and made to fit on a stock 5.0 intake manifold. If any one can do this I wil be in your debt  . Thanks.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Ignition coil cover
Hey quick question. Does anyone know where I can get that big black plactic cover on the drivers side that covers the ignition coil and the other wiring near it? I've been looking online and in wreaking yards and I can't find one. I know they exist cause I've seen them on Mustangs at car shows. So if anybody knows where I can find one please let me know. Thanks.

Lounge / Dating question
Ok I think I'm going to start up a bit of controversey but here goes. I've been having a running argument with one of my friends for about a year now about dating and I wanted your guys opinion so I know if I'm right or if I'm just being an a$$. Any ways the argument we are having is about age differences between two people in a relationship. Right now my friend is a 19 year old college sophomore who is dating a 16 year old highschool junior. I think that it isn't right for him to be doing this because of the age difference and the different expectations that highschoolers have on relationships. He wants a serrious relationship and at the age of 16 I don't think that the girl he is with is capable of commiting to just him. I know when I was in highschool I didn't want to settle down with one girl for the rest of my life. That was the furthest thing from my mind. I also think that it is not right for him to be with her because of the legal problems that could arise if they decide to do anything "romantic". This whole problem creeped up again because I went back to my old highschool Friday night to watch my brother play on the football team. While I was there my friend showed up with his girl friend and two of her friends. One of them took a liking to me and wanted me to go out with her on a date. I flatly refused because I felt that it would be improper for me to go out with her because she is 16 and I'm 20. She was a nice girl but I felt that it would be wrong for me to go out with someone who is illegal for me to have any physical contact with. My friend then got involved and said I was being stupid and that it was fine for me to go out with someone who is 4 years younger than me. I told him mabey if I was 24 and she was 20 that I would have no problem with it but I felt that it wouldn't be right for me to go out with her because of the age difference at this point in time. So guys after this long story do you think I acted in the correct manner or am I just an old fashioned guy?

Events & Shows / South Chicago suburb car show Sunday Aug 21!
Incase anyone has the urge to go to a car show this weekend there is one taking place at my old highschool. The show is at St. Laurence highschool located at 5556 West 77th Street, Burbank (a south suburb of Chicago), Il. 60459. The show is on Sunday August 21st and costs $10 to enter  and registration is from 8:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. and judging runs from 12:30 till 3:00. Their are 99 trophies in a bunch of classes (I can't remember them all). The proceeds from the show benifit students who have had a parent die and are having trouble paying to go to the school. I went for the first time last year and took 3rd place in the Ford division. I was only the second TBird there the other one being a 58. So if anyone near Chicago needs something to do Sunday here ya go. Wax the Cat or Bird and come out and see if you can win a trophy.

Lounge / Are women nuts?
Hey guys I just wanted to get your opinion on something that just happened to me. Now just so you know I'm 20 so mabey this is nothing new but here goes.

I was at a work related party on Sunday (ie only people who work for my employer were at this get together) and I met a girl. Well we hit it off and we talked and when it came time for the party to end I asked if she wouldn't mind if we exchanged email addresses just to ya know stay in touch. She said yeah and suggested that we also exchange phone numbers. She also said to give her a call this week so we could do something. I was like ok. So I called her today and asked if she wanted to do something later this week and she said yeah that she a her BOYFRIEND would like to do something. I was like "wait you didn't tell me you had a boyfriend". She said "yeah we've been dating for 3 years but I just thought it would be cool to hang out with you" and I said "well why don't we keep in touch by email for now and mabey in a few weeks when I have some time we can hang out". She said "ok sounds like a plan and I'll keep in touch by email".

Mabey I just think backwards but usually when a girl gives you her phone number without you asking for it then that usually means that
1. She is interested in you and
2. She is single.
It's not like I'm a noob when it comes to dating. I've had a few long (ie 8 months to a year) realtionships and I've never had this experiance before. I just wanted to malke sure that I'm not   and that as I have thought before women don't think like men do. I'de never do that to a girl but apparentally they think that there is nothing wrong with leading a guy on. Oh well I'm just a little puzzled so if any of you wiser   guys have had this happen to you I'de appriciate the stories. I guess someone gets each of us once in a while.

Engine Tech / engine ticking/knocking
Ok I've got an interesting one for you guys. My friend has a 1989 Crown vic with a 5.0 SO roller engine with 125,000 mi. (same as a Bird or Cougar) that makes a ticking/knocking sound at idol no matter if the engine is hot or cold. At first I thought it was the common cold piston slap but after the car warmed up the noise continued. He has a tach on it and we noticed that it only makes this sound between 800 and 900 rpms. If the throttle is pushed just a little bit to make the car run at about 1000-1100 rpms the noise vanishes. Other than that noise the car runs fine and dosen't sputter or stall. I don't believe that it is a rod knock (noise should get louder/worse as engine speed increases) so I suspect that it is a valve or lifter sticking. If you guys have any suggestions before we go riping apart his 5.0 let me know. Thanks.

Engine Tech / head question
Hey guys I have a question for ya all. I have pretty much settled on a plan for my engine and car and would like some opinions on head options. The car is a 88 5.0 Bird that is fully loaded. My motor set up is going to look like this.

Ported and gasket matched stock HO upper and lower intake manifold with a 65mm tb.

Rebuilt stock block with new pistons w/valve reliefs.

Stock HO cam and injectors.

HO speed density computer.

I'm going with speed density to keep costs down (I ain't exactally rich :disappoin ) but I would like some more power than a stock HO.
The car will also have headers, 2.5 dual exhaust, and 3.73 gears and a trac lock. I'de like to get a set of heads that would work well with speed density and be very reliable. I'de like to have about 250- 260 hp and 300+ft/lbs of torque. I'de like the engine to be as reliable as a stock HO but have the ability to push my Bird to a mid 14 second quater mile. If you guys have had a good experience with a particular head I would greatly appriciate any imput you could give me. The car will not be a daily driver but I would like to be able to put on 100,000 miles on the engine after the rebuild. Thanks for any imput you guys can provide.
