unusable (for me) koni front adjustable shocks

heres the pics:

according to http://www.tmengineering.net/suspension/koni/make/ford.html Koni # 8741 - 1122 which these are, they belong to a tbird turbocoupe. my dad bought them like 5 or 6 years ago for the cougar. i cant find the pics but he compared them to the cougar originals and they were like 2 inches too long or something, the mounting bracket was in a different place. i remember he was very angry because they were the wrong ones. why are they different between the TC and normal tbird? i dont know why he bought these. he got em from The Tire Rack, maybe like me he figured same car (though diff engine) same shocks! any similarities to the mustang/capri shocks, or other fox cars? or did every fox car have totally different setups?

thus he never put em on the car, and simply didnt get around to returning them and getting his money back. he settled on some "kyb gr-2" silver colored ones which are on there now.

i found that website to get a guide on the price, i thought id put em on ebay. however i figured i ought to be a good guy and try here first, as there are many TCs on here. i know he was really keen on having adjustable shocks, thats why he was so upset. id imagine this is really desirable, maybe someone here wants em? i WONT be taking offers here. ill make a For Sale thread. i pushed on em and the shaft moves very smoothly in both of them. sure wish i could use em!

Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...

The differance is the width between the mount, The pre 86 birds and 87-88 v8/v6 used a wider spindle mount then the 87-88 t/c

The bottom part of the stock TC struts is a bit longer too, probably because of the PRC. The adjustable Koni's might have this same extra length, but I don't think that part makes a difference in fitting. The Monroe struts I bought from Ether947 didn't have this extra length.

alrighty found the size comparison pic. looks to me like it would bolt in but the end extends too far past the mounting bracket and i looked at the car and it would run into the end of the tie-rod that bolts to the wheel hub or whatever.

Yeah, after looking at the pic JeremyB posted a few months ago:

...It does look like it would be a little tight with the 10" spindles. Might be a good reason to upgrade to 11" spindles & brakes though - those struts would fit the 11-inchers :D and you'd not only get to use your adjustable struts, but you'd get the bigger brakes to boot

The TC specific auto-ride struts are exactly like the Koni's in your pic. The bottom of the strut will interfere with the castle nut of the balljoint and prevent the mounting hols of the strut from lining up with their respective locations on the spindle. These struts will only fit 87-88 Thunderbird TC spindles. When I did my SN-95 brake swap back in '96 I quickly found out my TC specific struts would not fit the new spindles, hence requiring a change to 87 & up Mustang struts

well if i was rich id get those spindles! so, not happenin. honestly id rather sandblast and repaint the original ones yes the originals and throw em back on the car, assuming theyre not dead. maybe im wrong but id imagine my dad bought the KYB GR-2 ones when these didnt fit because he still wanted a sports-handling ride. so theyd be harsher than the originals right? i want a soft cushy ride. thats what i think these cars were about and thats what i want. as someone on this forum has in their sig or whatever "this cat hauls ass with class!"

alright, ive got the info i need so im makin a for sale thread. thx for the info guys!

no seriously its alright. the fact that id have to change out other parts like that is enough that its not worth it to me. they would very likely stay adjusted all the way to soft all the time. seriously. it would actually be a huge waste. dad would probably yell at me but i dont care about handling, i really dont. yeah im one of THOSE. straight-line haul-ass is all i want, and then a smooth plushy ride afterward. my idea of a car is a 1970 lincoln continental mark iii, with a Kenne Bell on that 460. (not that the stock 365 hp is exactly weak or anything...)

I have those on my car, along with Koni shocks on the rear. Before the Koni's, I had bought a set of Monroe GP's and they were just about the stiffest riding shock I had ever had. The Koni's totally transformed the car.
I found that the combination of the Koni's and the Eibach Pro-Kit, it handles better and (in their softest setting) has a slightly softer ride than it did when it was completely stock with 39,000 miles on the factory stuff.

I would hang on to them, and get the spindles that Ether947 is offering. Then when it comes time to replace your brakes, get the 11" rotors and enjoy them.

With the Koni's, you have feature of adjustability of the dampening and if they ever wear out, you can send them to Koni to be rebuilt.

stoppit!!!! lol my mom would never go for that anyway. after the craziness of my HO conversion im sure shed rather see me never change ANYTHING on this car EVER AGAIN. but seriously i kinda do need the money, my mom also wants to clear out all the junk my dad acspoogeulated in our basp00get, not hold onto all kinds of things.

my rotors are in great shape, replaced the pads late this summer.

i started driving it in about april i think 2005. so thats almost 2 years ive been driving it. it had 112,000 and change miles on it. it now has 118,080 about. i just dont drive it that much, i dont think that stuff is gonna wear out anytime soon. how much are new 11 inch rotors? how tough is it to replace the spindles and rotors? FOR SURE will all of that fit on my car? as you would imagine i just spent a lot on my H.O. conversion. i think im done with hop-ups for a good while.

UPDATE talked with mom and if i dont sell em they cant stay here, shell bring em to T.A. Predel's. (metal recycling center, they pay you by the pound for any kind of metal)

so case closed. thanks for the suggestions honestly id love to have em but its much more practical for me in this case to just sell em. im makin a FS thread now. first come first serve!!!!! get em while theyre hot.
