Site survey at pen 15s Chantilly Va (DC area)
Leave site and 12:30pm to head home
Gas pedal goes soft and i drift to the pull off.
Diagnose situation and decide,,, fuggg it.

Fairfax Co state boy hooks me up with a 170 dollar tow 7.2miles away to a shop.
Shop booked and the guy shows no interest in doing the work.
Towed to another shop 2 blocks away.

**Very good people here, they fed me all the coffee i could drink and were very nice.  They just had a hard time trying to deal with my worry wort for my 20th.  I think i may have over stepped my bounds but i think they understood.
They took the 20th in and had me done by 5:45pm (kickin butt)
They hooked me up with a CARCRAFT fuel pump -160 bux
labor was about 300 bux.

To tell you the truth, i cant really complain. They could've let it go till today to fix (hotel needed bla bla bla) but they called a couple customers and they were willing to be put off a day.

so anyway, yeah it sux but i guess you pay for what you get.

Scott, at that price maybe it's worth looking into a rental car....perhaps even an inexpensive purchase of a commuter car with a warantee

You been driving that car a lot for work from what I can gather.
$630 aint cheap.  It could conceivably be 2 months worth of payments.

What are your plans for the 20th as well?  Hard to restore it if your dumping time and money into just keeping it running IMHO...

lol,,, ask nate,, i gave him the idea.  Ill post pics of my white cougs access door from the old board if i can find it.

As for driving the car,, I cant see not driving it.  When your on a road trip, it increases your quality of life imho.  Some ppl like bikes,, I like my coug's.

I have a hertz rental car credit card.  I just  drive the coug because i want to.  The company is shipping in an 08 Exploder so this all may change and i have to drive that instead.

I get mileage with the coug instead so in all reality, it didnt cost me anything. Ive already made back the 2grand i paid for it in mileage plus all the expense of parts to date.  I generally buy my cars something new every month or every other month.

Driving this rare baby may be a risk but its one i suppose I am willing to take,,especially since these cars are not going to ever make any of us rich anyway.

ON my trip back home from DC , i noticed a loss of power.
Today i had to run out to smith moutain lake area to check on a remote cell site so i thought i would check under the hood before i ran over there.

Spark plug was not snapped on the coil.,, just stitting on top.  that cured the miss.,,duhhh

I thought it would be a good idea to check my fuel presure on the new pump.  I read 36 psi.  Now this really sux.
I called the shop to get the specs on that 160 dollar fuel pump they put in but cant get an answer till monday.

I may have to go back in the tank afterall.

how about everyone else? my 3.8 was always 40 psi plus i coudl adjust it.  On the 20th, i cant do anything about the presure adjustment other than an AFPR, which wouldnt be a good idea if i want to keep it stock.
What does everyone elses Fuel presure read with the vac regulator?

I dont know what kind of fuel pump they installed but i did see a "CarCraft" truck pull up with a parts delivery to the shop.

is it just me, or isn't a fuel tank just held up by 2 straps, the 87 pump is seperate from the sending unit, and there's only 2 hoses connected to the pump.....  300 for labor sounds awful to me.....  i think book time on that fuel pump is only 1.6 hours or so... 2 hours tops.....  unless i'm wrong, i think the "master mechanic" charged you a little bit too much

OOOH!!!  I'm a Eco Hypermiler :burnout: Not bad for 79mph on the interstate 2hours a day
