so i have this 90 lincoln LSC i am going to part out.. its got JBL premium sound. and has some killer looking speakers in it. i have heard these may not work with standard audio systems ( like my TC) because of different Ohms? anybody heard of this?

Premium sound uses a common ground for speaker cables and sends power for the amplifier through the speaer wires.

The premium sound 4" or what ever size they are speaker work awesome, and sound good. They have a crossover built in to stop bass from distorting the sound. I had to run new speaker wires for the doors and back because I didn't know where to jumper the wire for the amplifier to shut it off, so your not apmlifying the amp. I also couldn't get any sound out, even though I had the wires in the right place.

I think the speakers will work fine, but they may disort or sound different. If you have em and your parting out the car, throw them in. I would think the plugs would even be the same.

The JBL is a totally different animal than the premium sound . The speakers are rated at 8 ohms instead of the usual 4 , however they should work just fine. I have used them with aftermarket head units in a few lincolns with excellent results ..... on a side note does the JBL system work and would you be interested in selling the amp??

I'll let you know on the amp, i actually havent even turned the radio on yet, since i only drove the car about a mile so far. good news on the speakers, thanks.

BTW the plugs ARE different on the JBL's so you will need the connector/pigtails from the VII

i see now in the book, that the JBL is an upgrade over premium sound. i didnt know that either.

MY 88 Cat has the premium sound system, however back in 1995 grandma had noise issues with the controls in the head unit, and the dealer replaced it with a straight AM/FM/Tape head unit. So no power to the amp behind the back seat. Or to the built in cross-over. I've tried just about everything I can think of to "hotwire" it.

Honestly, I like the better sound of the premium sound, but in this day and age the amp is about 1/10th the power of a $40 cd player.

My wagon I ran four new wires, cut the connector off the front speakers to splice into the new wires, then put some cheap 6X9's in the back. Font speakers work well with little distortion.
