Been there. Sucks man. When they broke into my 87, they thrashed my window track, and when they ripped off my radio bezel, the holes in the dash broke out, so even a new bezel wouldn't hold. They tore my back seat out and threw it in the mud.

I was so upset...

I haven't put in an expensive system since. My cars have been broken into 4 times since, for no reason other than to rifle through my glove box. I don't know what they are looking for, but they must not find it. Nothing is ever missing.

I have cameras now, and motion lights. Nobody has got me in a while. It's the season for break-ins though...

That really sucks! What did they all take? Did they just bust a window?

I had my Cougar broken into a few years ago, they nabbed over $800 worth of audio, I even had a new set of Pioneer 6.5"s in the box waiting to be installed the next day.

took my alpine head unit, 300/4 crunch amp and a py 600 watt amp. left the 12"s and the box though surprisingly. busted out the L/R quarter window and took a screwdriver to the trunk lock.

that's just cold... as if stealing your stuff wasn't cold enough. effin' people can't just work hard for what they want and take it from the people that get it the honest way.

anyways, i just got back from buying a new deck, a Pioneer DEH-P880PRS with a CD-IB100 iPod adaptor and remote for 200 bucks off of craigslist. I'm sure I got a good deal. I'm pretty sure someone from here posted a review on epinions.com that i read while researching it too.

The quarter window too? I'd rather just have a door window smashed it would be a lot easier to replace. Again sorry to hear about this. You don't seem to rattled, I know I was ready to put the guys in a coma who messed up my trunk and such.

Anyway, enjoy the new deck sure looks nice.

i just try to look at the brighter side of things... car isn't stolen, dash isn't busted up, trunk lid wasn't pried open and bent, and it's a chance to upgrade! :D

This time shave your truck lock and reinforce the lock it self so you can't pry on it.  I s what we do in d.c. the number ? stolen car city in the world.  I like the new jvc double din with detachable face.  but i really like the xnarc in dash computer with flip out. For when i upgrade to a megasquirt can tune right there in car.

$200 for the 880PRS and ipod connector is alright but I had issues that formed with the faceplate making contact with the headunit when I had one. The Pioneer 780mp I use seems to have solved that by using extra plastic to reinforce the angles and pressures placed on the face plate. Somehow the pins were acting like they were bent, yet they were all straight and pulling them outward didn't help any.

The 880 is really only worth the price ("lesser" models can do the exact same thing with the same DAC and stuff) if you switch it to its advanced mode and use it for a 3-way active crossovers (if you didn't know that it had this capability...). In normal mode it is the same as the 780/7800 models besides having a screen that I believe is a little easier to read in sunlight. The screen on the 780/7800 looks great otherwise. The 880 and 780 have served me well over the last few years but they will retire here soon for better things (secure in a garage).

I've got an alarm and soon to be cameras also, that will be triggered by a sensitive microwave sensor, recording to media stored far outside of reach of even me so that I have something to fall back on if I ever have problems again. I'd prefer they broke the quarter panel window than the door - it's like 5 nuts holding that thing on. When I had an issue years ago, they tore a hole in my door at the lock with like a crowbar and damaged both the trunk lock and tried to pry the trunk lock out. They didn't get in the trunk though, although there wasn't much value to anything anywhere in the car, even the $30 speakers. The damage to the car far exceeded the cost of the headunit that was stolen (I think it was $100 or just under). There's no need for expensive car audio if you don't have a garage to keep it in.

This is how my system looked several years ago when I first installed it. It's a bit different now. I've replaced the black amp with an Orion for the fronts. The JL is for the Soundsplinter RL-P 12" subwoofer. The box is ported and tuned to 32 hz. I managed to fit the box up under the shelf by taking out the trunk springs. It fits nicely, although my truck doesn't pop up anymore.

looks hardcore. i hooked my new stuff up today, minus the head unit. running it straight from the ipod so my stuff is less likely to get ganked again. my 12shiznit soooooo much harder now.

I was looking at the Xenarc 7000 motorized monitor, but guys have been saying the gears fail on virtually ALL the motorized single DIN VGA monitors.

I'm now considering a 7" Lilliput touch monitor and making a dummy cover that goes over it when I park.  Thieves really piss me off. Gotta do everything with those s in mind.

I want to be able to display and tune my Megasquirt and Baumann tranny software via wireless mini keyboard with trackball, and incorporate the pc soundcard and have all my media files to boot. Not planning anything special for speakers, just decent replacements for the stock stuff with a good amp. It'll be cool to have a nice touch screen with GPS and HD radio incorporated, then switch over to PC for tuning the engine and transmission when I need to.

I've been playing a bit with voice control, and think it'd also be nice to try in the car for changing stations or audio tracks, volume and such. Still in the research and planning stages, though. A really good microphone is crucial for that.

Check out mp3car.com forums for their takes on car pc equipment.
