This is why I'm still on XP Pro SP1.  :flip: :flip:

SP1?  You cant even get more than a 127GB partition unless you have at least SP2 haha.  OMG, new smilies

:pbb:

Anyways, I've downloaded build 5600, which is build RC1, and I got the 64bit version.  Runnin on my sister's comp without a hitch.  She loves all the gadgets and stuff; her computer came with XP Media Center edition and it was just a POS.  I can't wait to put it on my new PC, which I should have runnin next Monday :D .

How does one go about getting a copy to try? Or do you have to be a tester first?

Microsoft was letting the public download RC1 32bit and 64bit, but I think you need a beta tester's key to run it.

Kingcars, that's not true.  Xp Pro without a service pack only allows 120-130 GB HDD (I forget exactly the size).  I've got a 200 GB  HDD with Xp Pro SP1 and I have no problems at all!

Microsoft always comes out with the dumbest ideas to minimize  the piracy of their software.  For example-WPA...it was sent down thru automatic updates in SP2.  So what do you do-disable automatic updates or revert back to SP1.

Hmmm, I coulda sworn that the 127GB bug was from SP1...  :toilet:

Muhahaha!  Now I, too rock this, how-you-say... Vista.  Problem is I have about 14 days to get rid of this pesky activation B.S. or all my hard work is down the drain.

Welp looks like I'll be upgrading my ram and installing vista.  I talked to my partner and it looks like vista is here.  So we have 10 licenses....

How much RAM do you have, Claude?  I have a mere Gig and it's about 50% used up at all times.  I'm thinking of putting my other gig sticks in, too.

I have RC1 and though I don't have Beta2 to compare it to, it looks pretty complete and hasn't crashed yet.  I did run across one irritating thing:  I had a music video I was trying to play and it would consistently give me the 'Explorer/Windows Media Player has Stopped Working' message.

same, i had a gig of pc2700 on a xeon 1.8 ghz box and was at like 400+ meg of pagefile and using a constent 25% cpu and about 60% of physical memory with just a few low overhead apps open.

this was on beta2 though

I had to bust open the case tonight to replace a faulty CPU fan so I put the extra gig I had in.  Now, running with 2 gigs it still seems unhappy.  Stuff loads a little faster, but I still think I'm going to go back to XP.  My brother just procured a copy of Media Center so I might rock with that for a little while.  I REALLY don't wanna be forced to go back to 2k again.
