It's been awhile. Not much to report on my end. Looking for someone to repaint a few panels on the Cougar that the last guy screwed up and refuses to make good on (deadbeat). Wish I had the patience and facilities to do body work myself.....
I digress.
Got one for you that honestly has me stumped... This is a buddies car that he recently acquired. It's an '87 Mustang Gt with t Tops and a 5-speed, still running speed density with a DA1 ECU. The car has stock everything save for exhaust and gears and sat for about 3 years before he got it. Needless to say it needed a little TLC to get it going.
As it sits right now it runs horrendously rich at all times. The car also is quite hard to start after warm. Cold startup is flawless. On warm/hot starup she turns over as if it has a severely low battery that sat in an Alaskan winter overnight.
Battery is new, distributor and TFI module are known good. Fuel pressure regulator is stock. Fuel pressure is good and within parameters. When the problem was first described to me I thought about the HEGO harness and the possibility of it not being hooked up correctly. My buddy chased the wires last night and it is in fact hooked up correctly. Interestingly enough, disconnecting the HEGO harness from the engine harness shows no change in how it runs. Due to the richness, the car does not want to idle lower then 850 RPM and even at that RPM it's quite choppy. It smooths out if it is bumped to 1000.
I should add that the o2 sensors are new as well. Battery voltage is good and alternator is charging like a champ. There are no extra electrical components added to the car. Still has the stock speakers and head unit.
I'm thinking it's either a wiring problem somewhere in the HEGO harness or a faulty ECU. Am I on the right track here?

It's been a while. The car has been a nightmare. It's going for paint yet again due to bubbling.....
I digress.
I have another issue that isn't a huge one, just a nuisance. I have the full digital dash with the digital oil pressure monitor. It usually reads 4 or 5 bars out of a possible 8 which is normal. I've noticed that the defroster will make the readout read 1 bar higher when it's on. It's done it for as long as I can remember. Does it in drive, park, reverse, under a load etc....
Oil pressure is good according to a manual gauge (21 PSI @ hot idle). The car has the EATC system and I swapped back to the full sending unit and not the dummy unit a couple of years back.
Up for sale is my Canon Rebel XS digital camera as I've recently upgraded to a Canon 7D
Some info: -- 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor captures enough detail for poster-size, photo-quality prints -- Large 2.5-inch LCD display; includes Canon's EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens -- DIGIC III image processor provides fast, accurate image processing; Live View Function -- EOS Integrated Cleaning system and Canon-designed Self Cleaning Sensor Unit, plus Dust Delete Data Detection in included software -- Stores images on SD/SDHC memory cards (not included)
Price: $250. This is for the body only. It does come with a battery and charger as well as the software disk. If you want, I can throw in a Canon 18-55mm IS zoom lens and then the price would be $325.

Had a buddy install the SilverFox VB and OD servo I had as I just don't have the time......Car no longer has 4th.....
Best guess is either the servo itself is stuck in the plunge or the 3-4 shift valve in the VB. I'm guessing the VB as it doesn't go into neutral when you let off at highway speed. It just stays in 3rd....
Had to figure SOMETHING was gonna happen with parts sitting around for 2 and a half years.
I did take note of something. The spring with the new servo is MUCH shorter than the old one. Like 5/8".... Could this be an issue? Already posted this info on ClickClickRacing, but the traffic there is slow as of late...
A buddy of mine has an 88TC 5 speed car that needs a couple of transmission parts to get her going again. He's looking for the clutch fork and retainer spring. What other t5's are hydraulic besides the 87-88 TC's? He's having a hell of a time finding the parts. Took the car off the road and redid the motor and rest of the trans about 2 years ago an has been searhing ever since. I've even put up a thread in the wanted section here for him.
What about a mid '90's Ford Ranger or something similar? Would the setup from that work?
A bunch of people I know get together on Sunday Mornings for a cruise in. My wife decided the other day we should go even though it's Mother's Day and take our older daughter with us. I normally roll out the stang, but had washed the Cougar and gassed her up so I felt it was a good time to take her out.
KABOOM.... My harmonic balancer on the Cougar exploded on the way there......SFI approved, 3 years old, 2000 miles on it. The main part was intact, but the spacer setup had a bolt back off apparently causing the others to shear.....tossed the spacer, the crank pulley and the belt onto the road. Luckily I was traveling slowly as I had just come off the parkway exit ramp so no other damage. I'm vexed as to why the bolt backed out. I can specifically remember and actually visualize when I put the locktite on them. I had all of them lined up on my buddy's toolbox at his shop. I haven't investigated too far, but the helicoil for the missing bolt doesn't look too hot...
My thanks to my friends who helped and gave support. Not a good start to the day especially considering my wife and older daughter were with me.
I hope the rest of you fared better today and I hope your Mother's Day was enjoyable.
And FWIW my brakes will stop the Cougar AND a full size Bronco attached to it via a tow strap much better than anyone expected.
A buddy of mine is looking for a throwout bearing retainer spring for an 87-88 Turbo Coupe. Stock tranny. Lemme know what you got. I'm in Farmingdale and so is he. I can send you the payment and then have him pay me back.
