If this goes through and becomes a nationwide trend causing Mattel to become debt riddled, will they qualify for some bailout money?

What's really funny is the ads MSNBC places in the middle of the story... While these poor, downtrodden women are reading about banning a doll that's been destroying their self esteem for 50 years Microsoft and NBC are trying to sell them wrinkle cream and tooth whitener. :mullet:

Mattel isn't going to go bankrupt. They make alot more then plastic dolls and little toy cars. They have several government contracts. They make parts for m-16's.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

The toy overemphasises beauty to girls? Are they going to ban anything coming out of Hollywood or the Music industry too? That has a much bigger part to play in the objectification of women, and an emphasis on the perfect female form. How about comic books and all of the Beauty and Women's Health magazines out there? Video games? Well, they're already trying to ban video games.

I know, I know. I shouldn't be giving them ideas, but picking Barbie as the source of all of this is painfully stupid.

I do not let my daughter play with them. I have always felt that they were inappropriate for little girls to have anyway. We simply don't buy them for her...I also don't let her play with or watch the Bratz stuff.

As a parent I have to be the one to decide what my kids can watch and play with. I have decided (actually Roger was the one who brought it up to begin with) that Barbie and Bratz aren't good for my daughter.

I don't think that there should be a law against these toys. Parents need to just use better judgment in raising their kids.

Your new government does not believe you (as people/parents in general) have the "qualifications" to raise your own children. They in fact believe that its their (the governments) job to raise your children as well as nose into every nook of your life.

why does it take something so painfully stupid as this for people to notice?

whats next?

I agree. Let the parents decide. I also won't buy any Bratz stuff for our daughter, and we ask her aunts and uncles not to. Those are essentially young girls (children) dressed up in really slutty outfits and wearing makeup. I'm still more concerned about the message she gets from media, though. We don't even have Satalite or Cable, yet she knows that when girls sing these songs on the radio, they dance like a bloody cat. She's three, going on four, and when a 'girls song' (she only likes girl songs, not boy songs) comes on, she's swinging her hips around and flicking her hair. THREE! It bothers me to no end, especially when she tells me "She's a bad girl, Dad.", then keeps on dancing. We never stifle her on things like dancing and singing, but it's tearing me up a little more every time. Try explaining to a three year old that she shouldn't be singing a certain song because it's about getting beat around by her man and liking it (that stupid 'Poker Face' song that's out right now), or that she shouldn't even be saying the word 'womaniser' at her age, or even much older.

My worst fear is that she'll end up like 90% of the girls out there and become a myspace/facebook w. There are too many 12 year old girls taking pictures of themselves in their underwear for me to not spy on my kids online when they get to that age.

I know what you mean....my youngest is 10 and still relatively innocent, but my 14 yr old.YIKES! Her dad and I don't agree with everything her mother lets her do, but since she has custody, we don't have a lot of say in the matter.
Last summer she was wearing a little bikini and I made a comment that it was a little to skimpy...her mom said "Well, if I had a body like that, I'd show it off too!". I was shocked.

I often see why she is his ex. Although she is a good mom in general, sometimes I think she tries to be their best friend more than their mom. But what do I know, I'm just a step mom to them.... *sigh*
