Now that the DD is setup it's time to truly get Layla's replacement.
I want to build a 5.0/T5 83-86 TBird, ideally an 83-84. I already have 2 5.0's (though one is going into Fast-4-Cheap). This car is going to be a 100% serious drag car and will be trailered to the track.
Anything with a cage in it already would be a bonus, but I'd like to keep the initial costs in check. I think a nice, stock, 5.0 Bird with good paint is probably the best starting point.
Has to be within driving distance of SW WA.
Just putting the word out...
I thought you were ALL about the turbo 4.You've been converted haven't you?C'mon, fess up.
;)
My love of the Turbo 4 died pushing my car home for the 3rd day in a row.
If you want a fun, stock, TBird, then yeah, a turbo-4 is OK. You want to go fast? V8. Period.
Hearing you say that brings a joyful tear to my eyes. Thanks Mike.

Sounds like the easy way out ;)

I'm starting to feel the exact same way.
I can say with certainty that my current project will be the last turbo 2.3 car I will ever own. Something goes wrong with it every time I drive it. It's a total basket-case.
My love of the car's rarity is too often compromised by its penchant for leaving me stranded.
Good luck, Mike. I hope you find a nice Thunderbird to build up.
I'll keep an eye out around these parts, but I doubt you would want to transport a car from the Ohio area.
it i was thinking about getting a making Twin Turbo TC for my DD and keeping my SC 5.0 for the weekends and my day off.
You can make anything fast if you get the parts got a few V8s laying around use them just like Sleeper 87 with his chevy V8. Use what you have and build on it so i say you need a V8 T-Bird to work on it sounds like.
I have a roller cam 302, a flat-tappet 302, and an AMC 401 here. (OK, so I do have a 2.3T too, but I sold it and am building it right now for the customer.)
I've owned and raced nearly every motor there is (I4 N/A, I4 Turbo, Rotary N/A, V6 N/A, V8 N/A) and I just want to go fast and not spend every waking moment fixing the car. So a V8 on nitrous it will be (though Ted keeps sending me Supercharger ads...)
Make a steam-powered Birdie!!! :hick:
(401's kick ass lol)
Preach it brother:burnout:
I'd opt for the 401, but that's just me. :D
Or he just wised up. The 2.3 is a rocken little motor no doubt. But there’s just so much you can ask of 4cyl in a 3000+ lb car.
Yup. I'd rather race with a 5.0 and still have a Thunderbird then have to stoop to a "Mustang" *coughcapricough* to keep the 2.3.
Yea but that capri of his is a mean little monster!!
Hmmm.... okay, but if you repaeat the same mistakes with a v-8 , v6, inline 6, or boxer enginethat you did with a 4 cylinder are you any further ahead???
Ooooooohhhh ...... I will give you a day to think about this and come back with something a little better :flame: I know you have it in you, c'mon man, work on it a little bit :shakeass:
I know it was a big "stoop" for me to move to a 1 of 1350 car that I race EVERY weekend over a rusty 13 flat daily driver t-bird that was eating itself around me. I'm tuning on another bird, we wil lsee where it goes, its still a driver too.
lol, thanks Man, you going to be around any next year? I have a few things in the works ;)
Bob Myers
What mistakes? It went 14's, got 33MPG, went to Cali and back twice, and did it all for less then you paid for the head work on your 2.3T. Again, I'm not seeing the huge mistake? The only mistake I made was trying to have my cake and eat it too by daily-driving my "race car". That problem has been solved now with a real DD/tow vehicle.
Just speaking the truth on the TBird/Capri saga. You didn't just give up on "your" Bird, you started deleting your posts all over NATO. That was lame. You can wax poetic all you want about the Capri, and I'll agree it's a hot little number. But you turned your back on the ENTIRE Thunderbird community. That is why you lost my respect.
Man, you sure do have a convienent memory huh ;) Just remember what you said here, think back honestly, and tell me about respect okay. NATO has nothing to do with the t-bird comunity. When paying members are told to like it or leave by an appointed officer, I chose to leave. That doesent sound like a community I want to be part of now does it? Long after the NATO fiasco, we still talked about things (even the NATO deal), here I had no idea I was being used by someone that had no respect for me.
Bob Myers
I didn't know about what you pulled until a few weeks ago. I love how you always put words into my mouth.
NATO has quite a lot to do with the TBird community, and the one rogue admin they've had there is well known. If you really want to know what's going I'll talk to you on the phone.
Fact is I'm looking for a Thunderbird, because this is the community I care about, not the 2.3 one. I don't care why you made your choices but I'm through with your "convenient memory" about me. Start playing us straight here.
Now do you have a TBird for sale, or can I get back to my thread?
I'll keep an eye out for you, I love shopping for cars... Even when they won't be mine. lol. :burnout:
Dude this is calling you!!!!!!!!!!

In the words of Toto "Hurry boy she's waiting there for you...." :giggle:
NO that's not the kinda stuff I listen to before anyone asks. :brick:
Looks good...you should get it
It *IS* the car I was thinking of!
:idhitit:
Buy it or I will ;) :D
That 86 almost looks musuem quality.
My guess is the reserve is close to 4k.
Somebody should grab it...I would but I'm way too far away.
That "zero" feedback rating on the seller will definitely keep the bidding down tho.
No 88 XR-7?
http://bellingham.craigslist.org/car/501458325.html
That 86 only went to $ 1,925....did not hit reserve of course.
Too bad it is too far away.
He's 4 houses from me. I'll road trip it in a heartbeat! ;)
Too much and too nice for what I want to do. I'd end up leaving it stock and I don't want to do that.
Are you still in the market for a 'Bird? Or are you just going to with the Interceptor Now?
Still in the market. I may hold out for an ex-Super Gas car or something. The Vic can tow, so I'm talking SERIOUS drag car now ;)
mike... if you are intrested ive got the 84 cougar.... willin to part with that cheap really cheap if your intrested.
Any luck with the guy with the '83?
Not yet.
Or the 83 TC here in the junkyard either. I may have to just go strip it before they crush it. 4-spoke wheel, vent window doors, etc.
