I've got a new project, anyone interested in a one touch down driver's window?
Yes!
Me too!!!!
Well, in that case I'll leave this here for you to think about until I have more to tell.
Ah yes, would be a nice mod to our cars where you latch a relay with an R/C time constant but i believe there are a second set of contacts in there for momentary down user defined.
My Exploder, if you push in half way on down, you can define the amount of down you get.
If you push the button all the way then the window goes all the way down by itself.
never examined how they do it but i believe its all in that switch coupled with some relays.
The switch above has the entire one touch system built in to it. I'll be getting out my saw, my die grinder, my soldering iron, my heat gun, and then some epoxy. I'm not necessarily going for perfectly clean, being that i have a consolette , and will be swapping up to a full console and floor shift later. Right now I'm most concerned with a functional appearance. The switches may not necessarily look stock when I'm done. After my console swap in the spring, I'll build another nicer one. Think of this build as a proof of concept.
great work,, and let me know if you want another set of eyes on it.
Are you going to use a end position switches, or just a timer?
There was a link somewhere Ive seen, that someone has done this already. I dont remember where though, I know that was very helpful LOL.
unfortunately, I've realized that I should have gone another way, but I already cut the original mounting pedestals for under the console cover, so I'm commited to my current path.
This is the guy responsible for one touch in this switch, it uses current detection to determine when the window has reached its travel limit.
Taurus module...
No, not Taurus, and not a module. Its about 1 1/4", by 1" and its inside the switch assembly. The switch comes from a 2004-2008 F-150, but it's identical to the switch in 2004 and up Freestar. I started with the 4 window version and eliminated everything I didn't want or have room for. Lots of cutting and tpuppies. Followed by fixing the switch, because cutting it killed the left 'hot on down' terminal. I'll get some pics up tomorrow or Saturday. It's in right now and working, however I don't have the tops snapped on. I'll get around to tpuppies the rockers to work through the panel tomorrow. I originally wanted to reuse the original toggles as switch covers, but I tried it and I didn't like the fit at the mounting depth I was going to have to work with.
No, that's not what I meant.
Taurus module inline...Ford part...doesn't reinvent the wheel.

As you were...
I see. Well, the wheel certainly hasn't been reinvented. I am the master electrical specialist at a Ford Dealer, I replace literally 75 to 100 of these switches a year. As you can imagine I have access to free switches whose only flaw is dirty points. The 'module' in this Taurus kit is a larger, older version of what is built into that switch, except free. The truck kit they sell is a scam, as the truck generation they list it for doesn't need it, because like I've shown, that hardware is in the switch.
And just one more thing, the benefit of using the newer switch, components and all, is that you have a second detent on the switch for auto. The Taurus kit will auto the window down at the slightest touch, I didn't want that. I like the 2 stage control. I had considered using just the controller out of the switch, it would have been easier, it would have used my original switches, but they're not as nice and clicky, and then there's the whole 2 stage thing.
Done. I need some sort of switch cover. Form follows function, and I've got function. I don't know what to do about form, though.
nice work
what is the cost of the switch new , not used
Don't know, I'll get back to you. If I had to do it over, I'd wire the controller inside to the factory switches for a neater look.
Was there a thread about using a little blue box to do that?
Bumping. The new car needs one touch mod, but I'm going to go cleaner this time. I've been hording window switches and studying the module more. I'd like to see if anybody can double check me on the breakdown of the module. I'm also working on a similar idea with the module off of a Five Hundred smart window motor that might allow auto up AND down.
Interesting idea
FOE came up with this I THINK and it WAS A GREAT MOD. He has all the details if memory serves me. Great mod and very ingenious!!
after swapping to manual seats, I find the switch panel fairly useless. I am going to replace the window and mirror switches and put them on the doors to free up some room for a headphones jack and charger setup with single cup holder. I like to have my phone where I can get to it.
I also want to take the standard lighter panel and put two or three more plugs for chargers for gps inverters ect.
After you move the switches, get some pics up. I'm curious.
This is still the original thread, I bumped it to get some sharp minds back on it with me.
I have a couple different ideas. one is to use the old late 70's and early setup ford truck door mount. the other is to mount the window switches where the lock/unlock switches are.
for the mirror, I wanted to integrate the mirror switch onto the little triangle trim price above the door panel. I can't remember what car it was, but the window switch was mounted this way with a toggle to control each mirror individually.
ideally, id rather just convert everything to manual controls. I see no point in having so many power options when you can reach everything from the drivers seat on a two door. now a wagon/4-door,'it makes a lot more sense.
I know it was your baby and i think you have all the bugs out of it and working if memory serves.
I totally like it as a good mod. I am working on door poppers for the midnighter. I hate the door panels on the T BIRD so i removed them and the handles. In the process of having new flat pannels made. Like i said i hate the factory panels they suck. The switches for the poppers are going to be in the console. Outside will be stock. Also the window switches in the BIRD work backwards. For the life of me i do not know why ford reversed them. I always push them the wrong way to open the windows. So i am planning on moving the window switches to a different location. But have not figured out where!!!
Went with the down-only module. It's much nicer with the stock switches. Like a couple others said, this is essentially the blue Taurus module, but smaller and slightly more free. I may add one to the other side, but for now driver's side is good enough. If I do, I'll have to splice the power and ground for the second module. I'm still going to keep working with the full auto module, but I'll have to find a good one first.
Final with wire colors.
This ended up being voltage sensitive. At anything above 14v, it works pretty good on both windows, but when voltage dips, it ends up running about 2 or 3 inches at a time. BUT, it has at least been a robust mod that's been in the car almost 10 years and still works the same.
