T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / Chrome Radiator Upper Brackets - Large Size
I found these chrome brackets on ebay for a pretty good price if anyone interested.
X

The listing is for $19.95 shipped
1979-93 Ford Mustang UPPER RADIATOR BRACKETS FITS 4 CYL CYLINDER
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1979-93-Ford-Mustang-UPPER-RADIATOR-BRACKETS-FITS-4-CYL-CYLINDER-/151468131600?hash=item2344344510&vxp=mtr

I have been in contact with the seller and informed them that they fit the '85 TBird perfectly, so he may update the ad to include TBird, Cougars, and V8's.
His ad presently only showed that they fit 79-93 Mustang 4 cylinder, but he now knows they fit a wider set of Ford vehicles.

I am not sure how long they will be available, so if your interested it might be a good idea to grab them now.

Show Photos / Got my 302 started, finally.
Well, the project 1985 Ford Thunderbird w/302 has a running engine now. Though it is running, I still have a while to go on the car. The engine also needs to be tuned and tweaked much more, but I wanted to update the status on the build. Be sure to use HD settings, Enjoy.

Drivetrain Tech / This Shifter should fit an '85 TBIRD AOD?

Our column shifter is so rigidy and displays sometimes in between the letters on the display. We have a full console and it deserves a console shifter.
I want to get the entire thing so I don't get nickeled and dimed after buying one. This one looks complete on ebay.

The display plate is correct as well.

Misc Tech / What in the heck is this thing?
I was fishing around in the passenger side fender of my 1985 Thunderbird and I found this thing...

What in the world is this for :dunno:
I thought someone put it in the fender and forgot about or something. Definitely an odd thing to have in a fender I think.

Electrical Tech / '85 Tbird fuel pump or pumps, relays location
Probably answered this a million times, but here we go again.

1985 TBird V8 302, replaced the carb based injection system with an eddy carb, etc etc. I purchased a bypass 3 connection fuel regulator to monitor the higher fuel pressure from the stock electric pump(s) to a carb. It is designed just for this application. Now I have read that it is possible that this car might have 2 pumps, (high pressure out of tank pump and the lower pressure in tank pump), but I also read that this particular TBird year came with only one pump in the tank. I see conflicting evidence with this and hope this can be answered with facts.

*If this car has 2 pumps, where can I locate the high pressure frame rail pump, if it has a 2nd pump at all.
Apparently the 2 pump factory installation ended in 1984 and in 1985 went to a single high pressure pump in tank.

*Next, where can I locate the computers EEC computer fuel relay connection that powers the pump relay and does anyone know what the wire color combination is that would need to be bypassed from it's stock 12v (key on)connection to a new (key on only) connection?

UPDATE: located fuel pump relay in trunk left drivers side

I plan on also installing a power cutoff switch as well between the relay and the 12v power source to turn the system off in case I have to diagnose (key on) issues in the future or secure it from being driven, for example...theft.

Drivetrain Tech / Need help figuring linkages on an AOD -TV rod and edelbrock.
Hi,
Well I am at my next road block that is a bit confusing for me doing it the first time. Here is my situation list and also an embedded video of the linkage I need help with. This was originally a cfi (fuel injected 2 barrel carb base) and removed for a 4 barrel carb install. The linkages and rod have not been adjusted yet for this new setup since I was not clear how to be sure it was correctly connected to the new carb.

* First of all, My throttle peddle in the car is not making a full throw on the carb linkage. The peddle has about half it's cable travel as free play and other half operates carb linkage and does not reach full open.  Can the peddle play be adjusted out so it fits the carb throttle throw. From idle to full throttle.?

* Next would be the TV rod setup. Right now the rod is too short obviously(see video). The TV rod also bumps the exhaust a little on the trans lever, but I think I can figure that out with a little linkage fabrication and adjusting.
I think the TV rod will have to be modded so when it is installed, it has the room to make the travel that is required for it to work correctly. These rods can be too close to the motor and bump the valve cover or the firewall. This will need to be figured out I guess. I have some linkage from the wrecking yard that I can possibly use. For example; cutting the TV rod end off a few inches and tapping or welding an adjustable linkage rod on the end with a cup for a ball joint that will be placed on carb linkage. I am not sure what would be the best way for my application and I definitely do not want it hitting firewall or engine either. The selection lever on transmission is facing forward while in park right now.

I want to make sure I have the linkages correctly connected to carb so they make the complete stroke from idle to full throttle and that the TV rod is added correctly on the linkage lever too. I hear too many times that the trany could be damaged if anything is not setup right.
If you can help, I appreciate your time. If you have a photo of how mine is to be setup, that would help with the explanation. Using laymen terms until I catch on to the theory of this crazy thing would also be helpful. I have some good mechanical ability from building this engine from nothing, but have not been shown per example on how this part is to be put together.:makefun:

Short video that shows my linkage.

Electrical Tech / 1G Alternator "F" Terminal?
Switching out the 1G alternator and I am pretty sure I have the wiring down except for this "F" terminal. I have checked replacing the 1G with the 2G and 3G and cannot find any information on what to connect the "F" terminal to on any update. Below is a specs I found and a photo of my regulator connector showing the available wiring. Strangely the manual says "I" terminal is Green & Red stripe, but mine looks White with a red stripe. I suppose Ford ran out of the Green and red wire that day and used White and red, lol. I seem to see this wiring issue pretty commonly also. So, I guess it is a guessing game at times if the guide manuals are incorrect.
Anyway, Is this "F" terminal used and where should it be wired into on either the 2G or 3G?

X

Here is the 1G,2G and 3G I located. The spec seems to show the F terminal as black, and again my photo shows a different color wire for F.

Electrical Tech / Alternator - external regulator to Internal question
By the looks of the alternator connectors, the Thunderbird went to an internal voltage regulator sometime between '85 to '88.
I want to switch to an '88 alternator but it has a plug connector shaped like below...
_________
|_|_|_|_|_|

The '85  only has the small bolt studs to connect to for rubber protected wire end connections.

Has anyone switched to an internal voltage regulator on their Cats or Birds?

Engine Tech / Exhaust fitments- Thunderbird vs Mustang
Seems everywhere you go for parts, you need to make a decision on buying a Mustang listed part for the Thunderbird. Rarely can you do a search for parts for our Thunderbird without Mustang being the decision made by the search. Kind of feels like that us Thunderbird owners are the illegitimate child that no one is suppose to know about when it comes in compare to the Mustang.
Oh well, this raises my question about exhaust fit and of course it is specific to the Mustang but is needed for the Thunderbird. I am replacing the exhaust on the '85 Tbird to an 'X' pipe like the one below. Listed at the typical places, but religiously they don't mention the fit to a Thunderbird. What if any issues might I have with installation into the TBird with no cats and probably pushing the tips out before the rear tires or dumping just before the rear axle. I have a double hump support, but think there would be remounting of the pipe supports compared to the mustang. I have already move fuel filter and line to outside frame rails.

Below I have posted an image of the intake I have and need the mapping for the sensor installs and whatever else these areas are used for.
I have numbered and color coded the example so they can be properly shown for response info.
Thanks.

Lounge / Extending Forum Time Limitations and more!
New to the forum here, but not new to the forum software being used. The one thing I notice here on this forum is the time limits on posting or just thinking about what your going to say for post information. I know of several people that mentioned being disconnected without notice.
If I may respectfully make a suggestion to help curve this disconnecting time problem which seems to work for us very well in our other forum and I think it is a great idea to think about here.

What we have done with our For Sale section of the forum is restricted to members that have made a donation to the forum. Once you have made a donation from say...10-20 bucks, you get the ability to be able to post your parts or whatever, for sale. This keeps the riff-raff out that just want to be ebay wanna-bees and join just to sell their stuff here. Also, being a donator to the forum, you get to edit your own posting in case you decide you need to update or change your posting for any reason at all. This saves space and double postings and is a great initiative to want to donate to the forum, just like the selling feature is. Next would be a donators badge placed on your profile to show others you have made the list as a dedicated member and made a donation to keep the forum running for everyone. These badges are placed and every post you make, like an avatar are shown. This gives people a little integrity as a member and lets new members want to give as well. Having this badge placed on your profile gives forum administrators an easier job of checking who is enabled to post items for sale, instead of someone just joining to sell and never being seen again. Also it could keep anyone out that could possibly sell something and never sending out the item being sold and keeping the money and skipping with the money. It probably doesn't happen much here, but the door is wide open here which I noticed right away. Scammers are increasing and this is a good idea to shut that door all the way.

The final thing that the forum could include in this return for a donation is the incentive to donate a little more by creating some type of forum vinyl decal that can be placed on a vehicle or wherever. You can have a small size for the 10 to 24 dollar donation which can range is size from about 2in. H x 8in. L. The next and final size for being a donator of say..25 dollars on up could be an upper windshield vinyl decal. This would be that little bit extra incentive enough to give just a little more and get the whole package and be a dedicated forum member.

Back to this time/disconnection issue I mentioned. To me, this issue is a pain in the butt. It needs to be increased and that is fair to say. I am sure everyone would agree also that this needs to be looked at. It's not hard to do and worried about bandwidth issues is just not good enough to not increase the time allowed. Not everyone writes down what they want to post here prior to posting it. They do it on the fly, then hit enter and pooof! everything they just typed in is erased. That just makes for frustration and has happened to me quite a few times. Heck, maybe some one has to go to the bathroom, come back a bit later to being logged out? Try an increase of 120 minutes would solve much of this and allow the system to keep a person logged in until he has finished doing what he came to do.

One last thought would be for a small chat room box at the forums main forum thread page. This is a wonderful tool for the forum. It gives people a chance to say something that doesn't need to be posted on a thread. Gives people a chance to communicate without having to do it through forum threads. Helps people get to know others a little bit more. One other thing this would be great for is for Administration to make announcements. It would be impossible not to see an announcement because this chat room box is the first thing you see when opening that forum thread listings page. It puts out the word cleanly and makes administration jobs a lot easier. Not everyone reads a thread for TOS and stuff. But everyone luvs to read what someone had to say if they just stopped in and had a thought and didn't think it deserved a full posting in a thread. Just another great tool to help increase membership and makes things easier.

Below shows the vBulletin software chat box format as well as the donation bar that can be also supported here. Something to think about!!!

Drivetrain Tech / AOD additional oil cooler
Any suggestions on adding a AOD transmission oil cooler. I'd like to add a cooler for the transmission and possibly seal off the radiator from having to do 2 jobs at once. I also would like to maintain the present trany lines if possible.
