I know this has been discussed but has anyone tried to run E-85 in a stock car?  would this cause any damage? and are there any changes that would have to be made to be able to run both E-85 or regular?  been wanting to try to run E-85 but wasnt sure if it would hurt my car.

My brother used E-85 in his stock 4.0 99 Cherokee Classic didn't have any problems before he traded it in for the Focus. How ever my father had to replace his fuel lines injectors and a few other things when he tried it in his 2.0 05 Focus.

Cars that are not designed to run on E85 will run lean when you fill up on E85.

Case in point.  3.0 Vulcan uses 14lb injectors, 3.0 Vulcan FFV uses 25lb (yes 25lb) stainless body injectors.

Unless the car is set-up to run E85 or a Flex-Fuel vehicle, the car will run WAY lean on E85 vs gasoline.
Yes, bad things will happen.

Oh i know and now so does my father around 600 dollars worth of damage done by that stuff because he did not check if the 2.0 was compatible.

The parts being compatible is only part of the problem.  E85 has a less efficient burn rate than gasoline.  An engine must burn more E85 for the same power output of a gasoline engine.  Std gasoline computers/injectors are calibrated to flow a specific amount of fuel at a specific rate.  This fuel requirement is not sufficient for E85.

If you dump E 85 into a car set to run gasoline and make no other changes IT WILL RUN LEAN.  You should be able to figure out the consequences of that.

I believe E85 will net you only 70% of your conventional gas mileage.

Yes gasoline has more BTUs then alcohol but I believe by enriching the mixture and advancing the timing it will help though your still right there’s still a power loss due to the btu factor. The way of getting around it is more compression. I believe alcohols octane rating is 105.
Dose anyone know how the flex vehicles work or what the compression is exactly I know threw better scavenging and computers today it dose help.
I believe a lot of these question are in that link just haven’t had time and wanted to add our conversation

I remember the old E85 discussion though I wasn’t really interested in it at the time. Not to bring it up again just mentioning it for this new setup here.
But anyway from what you’re saying E85 is getting approx ¾ of gas mpg means that these flex vehicles are built for gas not alcohol.
