T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 1987 Ford Thunderbird
Let me see if a can manage a road trip in the near future if you still have the car. The wife and I are planning on a weekend getaway soon, so picking up those doors might be a good enough reason to head over to KY. BTW, how much would you like to get out of those doors?

Body/Appearance/Interior / Need to find a spoiler
I know it sounds crazy, but a spoiler from a 3 series beamer fits perfectly. :D I was given one (off an 89 M3) and after a beer or twelve, I got brave and put it on my '88. It looks pretty nice too, subtle and destinctive. It will look like it came from the factory as soon as I find some material to make a thinner gasket for it. When I put it on, all I had to seal the holes in the deck lid was some 1/8" rubber sheet. As soon as I can lay my hands on some 1/16" rubber, it will look much better.

Electrical Tech / HELP! Magic smoke related
Thanks for everybody’s suggestions. Here’s the carnage list:

One fusible link who gave it’s life in a vain attempt to save the rest.

One fried ECU, I guess it didn’t want to swing both ways.

One toasted alternator, see comment about ECU.

One inoperable stereo head unit, I’m hoping that the in-line fuse took the hit instead.

Lesson learned, hook up your own  cables when jumping a dead battery!!!

Yea magic smoke. ;) A friend of mine who is into electronics explained it to me this way. When every electronic componet is made, it is made with a little bit of magis smoke inside that makes it work. And if you hook something up wrong, or overload it, the magic smoke excapes and the part will no longer work.:D

Electrical Tech / HELP! Magic smoke related
Background: my daughter left the lights on overnight in my '88 and ran the battery down. To make a long story short, my neighbor tyring to be helpful, jumped in and hooked up the jumper cables before I could get out of my truck that I had pulled up to jump the cat. Needless to say, said neighbor had the polarity reversed when he hooked up the cables. My first indication that something was amiss, was a large amount of magic smoke excaping from the general area of the coil cover. I jumped out of my truck and yanked the cables off while proceding to ask my nit wit neighbor if he was color blind.

Upon surveying the damage, I found one thourghly smoked two into one fusable link, which of course nobody has. I replaced the link with a couple of weather proof in-line fuses, so they are now good to go.

Now we get to the current problem, everything works EXCEPT for the radio, dash lights, and fuel pump. I have checked all the fuses (all good), the fuel pump relay, and most of the fusable links that I can find.

Sooooo, does anybody have any other ideas on where I can look for a problem?  TIA

Edited to add that the key was on if that makes a difference.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 87-88 t-bird LX seats
Yea, I'm definatally interested, just gotta se up a few more $$$.

When you say fair condition, what exactly is wrong with them except for normal wear. Are the frames in good condition? No big rips, stains, ect? And are all the pieces there for the front and rear? The reason I ask is because my interior is brown, but I *think* light grey seats, front and rear wouldn't look to bad.

Engine Tech / Hoping this is the right place for this post
Hi y'all, been lurking for a while, and now y'all have me inspired to start some mods. I think I know all the parts that I need to collect to lower my '88 LS (3.8), but in the meantime, I'm trying to figure out a way to increase the hp from the base 145 that we've all come to know and love. I've had my Cougar for almost 17 years now, yes I bought it new and I'm giving away my age here and it's been a super reliable vehicle, but now it's time to have some fun with it.

I've had some good results tuning the chip on my '88 K-5 Blazer (TBI) and now I want to see what I can do with my 'ol cat. I figure that a speed density, MPI system would keep me challanged for quite a while. :-) Sooooo, does anybody know where I can find  diagnostic software like Win ALDL for GM, and a tuning package (like tunerPro for GM)?
