After much too long a hiatus since my last bird got killed I'm back. Anybody have a spare clock and mirror switch kicking around (or potentially know a fix for the mirror switch? mine go side to side but not up and down). I just picked the car up over the weekend so I'm sure there will be more. Loaded 88 TC.
So uh, I have my car torn in a million pieces and am failing miserable at getting the cluster out and it's only because of the shift indicator... I'm sure u can tell by this that I've never had a column shift car, so uh, HOW DO I GET IT OUT?!
Thanks guys, I kinda need my car back in one piece without screws everywhere...
My TC and my sport have been hanging out unresgistered for a few months now and with winter coming it's time for them to go so next weekend is going to be the big Engine pull and Grille. Easiest way to get a bunch of people together is to feed em, right? LOL
I'm obviously keeping all my custom stuff, all the 5 speed stuff and the pisc pieces I need for my new car (plus any lights and stuff).
It'll be sad to see the 5.0 car go, it was my first car and I've had it for almost 10 years and put almost 100k miles on it. The TC, well me and that car have had a very love hate relationship. Unfortunately as it's been sitting all the rust has popped through and well it's a lot worse than I thought it was.
I'll be down to the 87 LX, 79 Ranchero, 48 Prefect, 89 YSR 50 (motorcycle) and 05 NInja 500. That's simply not enough toys! LMAO
Man it really sucks changing plugs in the stock engine bay. I guess I spoiled myself over the years with my lack of a/c and 8,000 stupid extra emissions parts. I need to put a warning on that thing!
I'll be working 4 days a week welding for a company called BOMCO in Gloucester, MA. The commute is a bit of a bitch but with what I'll be doing it's worth it. Plus since it's only 4 days a week I'll get an extra day home with the baby.
The company is called BOMCO and they specialize in custom aerospace components, industrial gas turbine components and custom land and marine precision formed metal components.
So cool job, good pay and benefits and really nice people to work with. I guess sometimes waiting does pay off! :burnout:
Oh and this means I get my ranchero back together next spring!!!
Anybody have any suggestions on a seat I can put in rearfacing that won't cause me to lose half my interior space? With the one I have that's the step up from the carrier thing (which is killing my back) I end up losing the ability to use my passenger seat without the person eating the dash. Thanks for any info.
I took the cd player out of my tc which is a non premium sound car and was wired in with a factory adaptor kit. This was in good known working condition. I hooked it up in the new bird the exact same way I had it in the tc and get power but no sound.
The stock radio has sound and I hooked it back in for now. They're both non premium sound cars and logically this should have swapped right in. Any ideas?
So due to my sport's case of automotive leprosy, it's getting put down. Literally parts have been falling off of it for the past week...
BUT being a t-bird junkie I found and acquired a RUST FREE FL car. It's a shiznit model 5.0 with a column shift but it's in beautiful condition (and the ac works!). The hubcaps have so gotta go though...
Picking it up tonight so pics later or tomorrow. It will be getting my hood, fender with the frenched antenna and tc nose somewhere over the next year when I can afford the paint. And of course eventually my 5 speed and some motor upgrades. For now I will enjoy having a decent car for a while again though (not to mention I may need knee surgery, stupid motorcycle).
My sport is officially not safe to drive. I'm running it until I have something else fixed and then I'm tearing out the drivetrain and sending it to the junkyard.
This is my first car I ever had as well as the car I learned how to do everything on. 9 years and almost 100k later and I seriously don't even know what's holding the front of it on anymore (like seriously have no idea). I had a ground go bad yesterday and putting it up on jackstands I just went wow...
The drivers side is worse and pretty much shattered, there are shards of metal popping out of everywhere. I'll take some pics once I yank the motor out.
And yet another head gasket down the tubes! I have a very love hate relationship with the 2.3 turbo motor... I love blowing them up and I hate fixing them
I put ARP studs in when I did the last one and apparently it wasn't enough to help. Dropped the head off to have it checked, I'm convinced something is wrong. Anyway, I'd say this explains the 50 lbs of compression in cyl 4 and there are definately issues in 1 and 2 as well:
If you live in a place where rust is an issue and you mess up the blade, just buy a whole new fan!
My fan broke loose yesterday and the studs for the stock fan chewed it up really good (I was so happy to find out the horrible vibration was just the fan though!). Anyway to try and save some cash I just bought a new blade seeing as everything else was good.
In theory the directions say loosen set screw and gently pull up on fan, then replace with the new one. Luckily I did this at the speed shop but the actuality of my replacement went like this:
1. Soak set screw with WD40. 2. After twisting included allen wrench use torch and then remove set screw. 3. Try to pull off fan and just laugh. Apply heat again, nothing... 4. Ignore directions and tap fan shaft with hammer, again, nothing 5. Tap shaft with hammer while applying upward pressure with pry bar, nothing 6. Take hacksaw and start cutting the metal holding the fan to the shaft, nothing 7. Continue cutting with hacksaw and try to widen gaps with hammer and chisel, nothing 8. Go out to the other shop and start grinding, try some more heat, nothing 9. Grind visible metal piece flush with plastic fan, nothing 10. Take cutoff wheel to fan and cut down through it, more prying, hammering and WD40, nothing 11. Finally manage to break the fan from the metal piece that attaches it to shaft, cut metal piece all the way through with cutoff wheel and beat off with hammer. 12. Take 10 minutes to install new blade on to shaft and then reinstall in car.
So this all took the better part of 2 hrs since I was trying to not kill the motor in the fan or bend the shaft and nock the fan off balance. Prior to this I tore down an 89 Mustang GT motor that I'm cleaning up and putting in my ranchero and that only took me like 1.5 hrs.
In conclusion, spend the extra money and just get a new fan... :flame:
I called up the company and the guy I spoke with said it was manufactured by the company that supplied Ford so it's oem fit and it's just not a part that Ford owns outright.
I'm planning on ordering it but just wanted to know if anyone had tried it.
