Well, I think my car is going to see paint very soon so I thought I'd post a few pics of what it looks like now. I'm going to start sanding today. I'm getting it ready for paint myself.
As I've mentioned, the paint finish was very dull and orange-peeled:
I gouged the hood with a drill-sander and had to put primer over it. The only color I had was orange.
There is a lot of over-spray on the car, on the chrome and trim.
The driver's door has some rust and I wanted to see how deep it was, then had to use my orange primer on it.
I put wax on the car but it was so orange-peeled I couldn't get the wax off.
This is the taillight lens that fell off. As you can see, I haven't glued it yet.
I just dug up an oldie but goodie screensaver program. If anybody wants to send me a full side shot of their car, suitable for cropping - no busy backgrounds, I'll make a (hopefully) cool screensaver.
I just installed the windows 7 rc. So far so good. Everything seems to be working. Some of the programs on my computer have questionable backgrounds. It has some kind of theme thing. I'm not sure what it does yet.
So, I came out of a friend's place the day before yesterday and my '86 cougar refuses to start. The bf came and looked at and said there was no spark coming from the coil. Yeserday he replaced the voltage regulator, distributor cap and rotor. Still no spark. He thinks the problem is the distributor. Is there anything else he can check before I go and buy a new distributor? He made it sound like it will be a pain to fix.
Everybody keeps telling me how bad it is for a car to sit as long as mine did, (15 years, so I'm told) is there anything else in particular I should expect to go wrong now that I'm driving it?
I thought I needed to replace the whole light assembly when the lens fell off but apparently not, so I guess what I'm looking for is just the lens for the rear passenger side for my 86 cougar xr7
The smoked plastic cover for my passenger side rear light assembly was a little loose and it fell off somewhere recently. I can't really drive the car until I find one. :'(
Is there anything else that will fit if I can't find that one?
The only mechanical-type thing that I don't love about my cougar is the clutch. I have to put it right, right to the floor to shift. I have to nearly stand on it to start the car. Is there an adjustment for that?
So, although I can fix a lot of things, cars have never been one of them. I don't even like to check my own oil.
But I like my new cougar so much that I have actually installed something with my own hands. :D
The speaker wires on my speakers were cut and the speakers were in the trunk. The speaker cover and catcher was also in the trunk. I put them back all by myself!
I'm looking for the xr7 turbo badge for the trunk of my '86 cougar. I'm also missing one of the side xr7 round badges. I also need most of the exterior window mouldings. Any help on these would be awesome.
I just bought this car for $200. The kid I bought it off of said it had been sitting in a barn for 15 years. It only has 90,000 miles on it so I imagine it was parked. It has the world's ugliest paint job at the moment. ..patchy, thin and orange-peeled. The interior is in much better shape than the outside. Some fading on the front seats but the rear is perfect. The engine runs purrrfectly. This car loves to go. It's a 2.3 litre.
