You don't need to dish out on an HO mustang engine. Just get regular SO Roller Block since you are not using any parts from it anyway and its the same block as the HO.

You could get one for about $150

Carb setup will be cheaper and save you a lot of time and headaches.

@Carl:  Well I want the HO for a couple of reasons.  For one, it comes with reliefed pistons, so if I'm able to stick with the stock bore, I wont have to change pistons.  Also, it's just $375.  I can sell the rest and make at least half of it back.  I'm pretty much decided on sticking with EFI.  Same performance, but better econimically.  Even when its DD duties are over, it will still be regularly driven 1-3 times a week depending on weather.

@bhazard:  I'm not 100% sure where I'll be when the engine is ready, so it may have to go a couple of months as a DD, but no longer than that.

@V8Demon:  Thanks for that info.  I'll look at prices and all and decide if I want to step up to the stg 2 cam.  Will a Cobra Intake be able to support all of that air flow?

And I still dont know if I need mass air flow either.

Love your bird man.  Great to see one is still clean like that.

Stepping up to something with a smaller Lobe separation angle like the TFS cams with their somewhat long duration basically necessitates Mass Air.  There was a guy on 50tech.com who used my cam with SD for a while.....Great at the track, a grumpy old bear around town.  He did the Mass Air swap and was overjoyed.

A Cobra manifold should be just fine.  If you want more top end you could run something with shorter runners.

I'll make it easy.  Here's my motor and it's supporting cast:

Motor:
'87 block rebuilt 30k on pistons, rods, crank--pistons are forged flat-tops
TFS stage 1 cam
Twisted Wedge Heads
TFS Street Heat intake
1.6 ratio stud mount roller rockers (also TFS)
TFS valve covers
70 mm edelbrock throttle body and spacer
73 mm C&L MAF meter
Edelbrock aluminum water pump
K&N FIPK
Ford Motorsport blue hoses
Mr. Gasket 180* T-stat
Mac 1 5/8" Equal length ceramic coated shorty headers (New as of 9/20/07)
Mac 2 1/2" H-pipe (New as of 9/20/07)
Borla XR1 center inlet/outlet 2 1/2" lers with dumps (New as of 9/20/07)
Kirban adjustable fuel pressure regulator and guage (20K)
Ford Racing Mass Air conversion kit
Ford 24lb injectors set to 48 PSI (at that pressure they flow at about 26 lb/hour)
Walbro 255 lph fuel pump
Ford Racing A/C delete kit (15K)
Ford Racing 9mm wires (Changed EVERY 15K)
Accel U-Groove plugs gapped at .051"

Thank you very much for that info.  How difficult and expensive is it to switch to MAF?  That's the one thing I'm a little worried about.  I also noticed one of the kits is for automatic only.  I do have the AOD, but the computer is for a 5 speed.  I'm assuming there are 5 speed kits too.  Which do I need? (I'm switching to 5 speed down the road...)

The full kit has a new computer.  If you're gonna switch to 5 speed do up a 5 speed setup.  Many of the MAF swap components can be found at a salvage yardor even in the marketplace here.  I bought the whole kit for convenience.

Well luckily I have several cam options that will work with speed density, so I'm going to save the money and hassle and go down that road.
