I'm always looking for parts. I'll keep an eye out for them for you and send a PM if found. If you find any leads on NOS stuff for my 87, please do the same.
Welcome to the board Optimus! If my memory serves me correctly, the block and heads are the same for the 83-87 3.8's with the only difference being the intake manifold. It has been some time since I did my V-6 so don't quote me on anything. If you ever plan on passing near Philly, let me know. Perhaps we can meet up and you can take a look at my engine bay. I think my block is from an 84.
I have one leg in the antique Toyota world and one leg here in the mid-80's Thunderbirds and Cougars world, and I am actively involved in grassroots racing, vintage racing, and custom car restoration. I have long felt that a Ford in a Ford, a Chevy in a Chevy, a Toyota in a Toyota. But guess what?
Some of the coolest things I've ever seen have come from guys and girls taking a little from here and a little from there and making it unique.
It's your money. Stimulate the economy as you see fit.
And remember to use proper grade bolts for all of the belts and seats. Overkill on this one. For roll cage padding, get the stuff that is FIA rated. Find it here:
I'm building a 1977 Toyota Celica GT Coupe. We road race with EMRA. She is one of three known 77's in North America doing what we're doing. In 2008 we scored Rookie of the Year honors. These photos were taken at Watkins Glen in September 2009 as part of the Vintage Grand Prix during the SVRA weekend.
Make sure you read the rules for the sanctioning body you race with and supply your cage builder with those very same rules. If you have a question about the cage rules, contact the club and get a tech inspector's email address.
I went to the same auction a few years ago-I think it was the first Barrett Jackson Palm Springs event. Very nice. Outside kit Cobra dealers showed their pricey, and poorly manufactured cars. Inside-lots of very nice cars. I saw some movie cars and a few pricey exotics.
