Body/Appearance/Interior / Re: Painting over chromed plastic?
looks like it isn't going to get as warm today as it was supposed to. I'll have to just paint and hope it doesn't crack like last time I painted around this time of year

Have any problems with orange peel?

Looks good. Different, but good. Is it clearcoated?

Also, wiping the primer with denatured alcohol after sanding works well to get all the left over dust off. Just make sure the primer's completely dry or it'll tend to make the primer ball up.

Today's the day for me to repaint mine since it can sit inside to dry over the weekend. The paint I use takes longer to dry but has given me good results in the past (same slow drying paint I used on the flat blacks around the car - makes the finish really robust). I don't know of any slow drying clearcoat though...

I'm sure its one of those auctions where people just jack up the price because they know the seller's an idiot

I'm going to be making clear corners as well as something custom I thought up for the grill...  :)

Try sticking clear reflectors from some other vehicle in them because I'm sure it'd look a lot better and possibly look like it was manufactured that way. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you think up for the grill as I can't imagine what one would look like (being that all you ever see is the stock grill or tc nose)

So is that factory "black" paint? If its black, I may use your car in some photoshops in the future to see how certain things would look. 2 weeks until graduation from college means I get to have more money to spend on the car :D

He made them - there were threads for months (at least it seems like months as time has been going so quick lately)

gotta love the lowered stance

*shudders* Some of the speedbumps around here se between the wheels on even my stock bird, I'll probably never let it go lower

What color is the paint? It doesn't look as dark as the moulding so I'm guessing it isn't true black.

I just did this last weekend (although used a fairly-reflective metallic silver) and so far the paint has no problems sticking. I just used what I had laying around - 60 grit and then 220 grit. Afterwards, used some primer to get the thing somewhat flat (the chrome bubbled in a couple spots) and sanded it. Sprayed the paint and it stuck without problems. It turned out good until SOMEONE decided to fertilize the lawn at the time I was waiting for the paint to dry and got some stuck in the paint. Due to weather, and the fact that it still looks better than the chrome finish it had beforehand since I was picking the little bits of fertilizer out of the paint, I've left it alone. I'm going to repaint it this weekend and then clearcoat it.

So yeah, somewhere around 150 grit or smoother would be a good roughness to paint over, primer or not. Just don't get ahead of yourself and keep loading it down with paint...drips set everything back. I'd recommend clearcoating over whatever you do, especially since its on the front of the car. It'll both make the paint look better, and you can sand/use rubbing compound over it without dulling the finish. Rock chips are easy to take care of too ;)

Engine Swapping / Re: 390 swap
I'm just posting to say goodluck with the swap. I love the sound of the 390 but it gulps fuel like nothing. Parents have a '64 tbird they're fixing up and it sounds beautiful, albeit overly loud in a closed area since it has no lers

That guy's just an idiot and doesn't deserve to have his license...and above all, thinks he's a good driver. You can think that all you want, but only the older drivers with more experience truly know how inexperienced one is at 18 years old. Reading the thread, he's posted about hitting people a couple of times the last couple months. At least 3 hits (that I see so far) since August? Most likely at fault and should be liable for all repairs.

Audio & Other Aftermarket Electronics / Re: Stock equalizer button
there's 8 solder points in total behind the switch, and I'm unsure if they're all visible from the back of the pcb - this was a couple weeks ago. I counted the pin closest to the edge of the pcb as pin 8, pin 1 being closer to the middle. Connecting pins 1-2, 3-4, and 7-8 control the right channel, rear channel, and the led's, probably not in that order. I think connecting 5-6 will act as passthrough but I'm not sure.

if you follow the traces on the pcb, you should be able to solder 3 short wires to the back and it'll function just fine.

and because I forgot to take a picture of the thing before I put it back together, here's a paint drawing (I bet nothing's to scale or correctly shaped)

Sucker... I'm jealous.  I always wanted (still do) a fix-er-up 87-88 TC.

same, but fixing up/modifying my current car will have to do. I just juggle selling mine and getting a tc, then dropping a v8 in, or sticking with mine and adding tc parts, one by one. I'm not one to have a bunch of cars laying around :p One more car, under warranty, and I'm set. Have to at least have one running all the time to get to work and back.

Engine Tech / Re: Bolt On 100 Hp?!?!?!?
Yeah, a few places have passed 400hp NA on a 302 with a couple boltons. I'm curious about that $1100 price though, sounds like a decent deal - labor and all included
