Title: 1986 5.0 off road H pipe......
Post by: 86T on May 15, 2009, 06:29:54 PM
Hello everyone, my name is kevin, i am the proud owner of a 1986 5.0 tbird. My great uncle bought it new in 86 and it was given to me when he passed. I have since bought a 2 1/2" off road H pipe, shorty headers{summit brand} 2 chamber flows, upper HO plenum, HO egr plate and t body, HO injectors, 155lph trick flow fuel pump, waiting to install fuel system till i find a HO computer. But here is my question, i am going to install the headers and exhaust this weekend, it is my daily driver so short down time is a must, will the smog pump make a lot of noise blowing into the off road pipe with no cats?

Not if it's hooked up.Before you use the H.O Speed Density computer, you need to install an H.O cam.The computers (for speed density) are on Ebay all the time really cheap.

thanks. I understand that the firing order is different on the HO cam, but i really dont trust putting a used cam in my daily driver with who knows  how manys miles on it ya know. So with that being said do you know what is the lift on a HO stock cam. Maybe i could find an aftermarket cam with the same profile. I understand that the t-bird 5.0's dont have valve reliefs so i cant go any bigger than a HO cam lift, correct?

Unless it were damaged, a used HO cam is fine... They are mfg'd from steel and do not wear out...

The HO cam, computer and injectors MUST be used together...
