T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 84 cougar for sale or parts and my gold rims too
need to make room in the driveway and i have too many cars.... i need to get rid of the 84 cougar and i've bought a little time from the wife to hopefully see it doesn't meet the crusher.....  it's the 84 cougar i bought a few years ago, 6 cyl, charcoal interior, base model.....  i'd like to sell the whole thing and be done with it, but i'm not opposed to selling it for parts if it's going to end up sped....  it has the 3 speed auto in it, which shifts good and the base rear end....  i parked it because it was starting to sputter and i found that the injector was sometimes "spitting air" causing the intermittent stumble....  so, my other cougar needed front struts and bushings so this car became permanently parked....  since it had much better tread than my other cougar (i was using the 84 as a daily driver), i swapped the factory steels with the gold enkei apache iv's from my other car... THEY ARE INCLUDED WITH THE CAR....

the car is pretty solid, surface rust underneath and on most components and it's only penetrating on the passenger door.... otherwise it's pretty solid.....  it had a turbo coupe hood and really nice taillights...  the door panels are there and are in great condition....  the seats are really nice too and the silver applique dash pieces are spot on.....  the only window that works is the driver side, both power lock actuators were removed for my other car (that's why the panels are off) as well as the radio missing (the bezel is still there, but it's for a buttstuffog, not digital radio).... it has a pioneer cd changer in it too.....  with a little help, this car can become a daily driver again.....

it DOES run, but needs to be towed because of the py tread on the tires and the fact the front strut bushings are shot and it's not aligned....

the first $300 takes the car and it really needs to be gone SOON, so if you want the whole thing ACT NOW!!!  if i can't get a sale for the whole car done by the 21st, i'll start stripping it and sell it for parts...  if it's not out of the driveway by the end of the month, the wife says she'll call the junkyard herself and get it gone..... i guess that's what i get for titling it in HER name :).....  but i'll still keep her anyway.....

vehicle is located in st augustine, florida which is 40 miles south of jacksonville on i-95

thanks :)

User Rides / new daily driver, it's PINK
soooooo....  i really needed to find another car (you can only do so much with a family of 5 and 2 cougars), so i went out to the wholesale lot at work and found this...........

it's a 1996 Cadillac DeVille, and it's PINK!!!  it's a mary kay car and only has 61,900 miles on it..... it looks like it was garage kept and the interior looks new.....  i don't think she ever used the trunk because the spare cover still smells new :)

now i know it's pink, but the wife LOVES it, and i only paid $2,100 for it..... the only issues i could find with it was the torque struts were worn ($35) and the passenger front speaker is blown..... otherwise it looks and drives brand new :)

i guess i can deal with it being pink for a deal like this

Engine Tech / 3.8 rattle sound
tried to make a vid to sample the noise, but it's all noisy :)

i thought my smog pump was making noise, so i took off the belt and ran it without one.....  i noticed a rattling(?) noise on the way back to idle when i slapped the accelerator and sometimes when i held it at about 1500rpm.... it sounds like it's coming from the front near the distributor base......  i'm guessing this has a timing chain and i'd hate for it to be worn (car has true 85,000 miles)... could it be something in the distributor?

Site Suggestions / search function
ok, i tried to search for blower motor and got 96 threads, so i tried to search for the phrase "blower motor" and still got the same 96 threads.....  is there a was to search for an exact phrase or will it only search for both words independently?  a phrase search is so much quicker

thanks

Site Suggestions / just a question about the "what's going on" bar at the bottom
how come the names aren't in alphabetical order?  i get that it lists you first, but, and i know i'm lazy, when there are a bunch of people here it would be a little easier to see if someone was online if it was listed alphabetically.......

didn't know if it was possible, but just curious to know :)

Electrical Tech / door lock actuator
my passenger door lock actuator is dead in the 84.....  can i get one from any 83-88 fox or is it specific to certian years (i'd have to go searching through door panels to fing it won't fit

thanks

Electrical Tech / 84 cougar 6cyl starter solenoid wiring
the starter solenoid on the 84 cougar 6cyl i got is bad, and it seems to be wired wrong.....  i have the 83 books, but mine only show wiring for a carbed v6 and the 84 v6 is efi.....  could anyone post a pic of their starter solenoid wiring or a pic of the page from the evtm for the 84 v6 or verify that the wiring is the same?... i'd greatly appreciate it

User Rides / Twins update page (big pics, bigger dope taking them:) )
well, now that i have it, i can finally tell the story (didn't want to jinx it).....

well, when we lived in south carolina last year, they built a walmart by our house....  i went there one day after they opened and to my surprise, there was a 2-tone cougar parked there... so i parked next to it and spyed it....  it was an 84 gs with power options....  cool....  so, for the next month or so, every time we went to the walmart, it was there and we parked next to it (my youngest loved parking near it most), i figured it belonged to someone who worked there for the opening...(it had indiana plates).....  sooooooo, one night, the wife and i went there, and for fun parked in front of it, and when we walked out to our van after shopping, we saw the car's owner was there!  well, we started to talk to him and found out that he had transfered there and worked in the tire and lube.... cool.... we told him about our "twin" car and he told us he wanted to turn his into a tiffany (we can all dream)....  so my wife gave him her card with her email address (she wrote the coolcats web addy on the back), wished him luck, and told him that if he was ever interested in selling it, give us a ring......

that was almost a year ago

last week, my wife got an email from him telling her that he had to move, so the cougar was for sale....  well, we live in florida now, so with gas as it is, and the fact that he needed it sold by july 31, i told my wife to politely reply that while we wished we could get it, we could only offer $200 for it at this time...............  he replied --- that's what the junkyard said, and he'd rather a collector to have it, so if i could get it this weekend, he'd take 200 for it!!!  needless to say, i drove up there yesterday and it is now sitting safely in my parents backyard waiting to be transported to florida!!!!:burnout:

the body is in pretty good shape, paint is rough, surface rust under the car (indiana car) and the passenger door electrics don't work.... also, it has a huge power drain that kills the battery overnight and doesn't like to be jumpstarted......

the interior needs a headliner, dashpad, visors, and a center console, but the seats and door panels are super clean......  i think we did good :)

after i finally got it started, it drove 25 miles to my parents house without a hiccup, i'd say that's a good sign :)

kinda funny how life can find you something good.....  must have had some kharma coming my way

we just think it's awesome that other than the red pinstripe, it has the same paint as our 83:bowdown:

Drivetrain Tech / 3.8 aod conversion
is it beneficial to put an aod in a 3.8 84 cougar?  would you see better gas mileage or power?  also, would the aod require a different length drive shaft?

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / i need 83 trunk emblems
anyone have, or can get (vinnie?) a "mercury" and "cougar" emblem from a 83/84 trunk that are in good shape?  i'm swapping my taillights (thanks bearmax) and don't want to remove the ones from my old lenses (the emblems aren't on my trunk... long story)

thanks :)

Suspension/Steering / coil spring isolators
i have new coils (oem), and they've finally worn away the lower isolator on the passenger side (i didn't replace them at the time :punchballs: ) and is making an awful racket.....  i can't find ANYWHERE where it is listed which type and size of isolator we have... it seems CHE no longer carries them (or has none) and when you goto the energy suspension web site, they show them as universal and don't list them by application......  i don't want to have to disassemble it to find out (the cougar is my dd right now)... does anyone know which type of isolators we need (front and back, top and bottom) and what size they are?  i hope someone who has replaced them remembers.....

thanks a bunch for your help :)

Drivetrain Tech / how much in and out rear wheel play should there be?
so i had the rear axle up in the air so i could diagnose a vibration i have at higher speeds..... got it up to 70 or so and noticed the rear wheels wobbling.... so i stopped and checked the wheels and found that the clunked in and out of the axle shaft a good bit..... i know it should have a little play, but i think mine might go in and out about 1/4 or 1/8 inch or so.... i made a video of it to show... i hope you can see it.... does that look normal or is my rear end going?

my build sheet says i have a "non-locking rear axle" if that makes a difference

thanks
