Body/Appearance/Interior / Deep scratch touch up
I ended up scratching our Van pretty bad and deep while I was loading something heavy by myself. :punchballs:

I havent had to deal with "surgical" scratch touch up before as the paint isnt so great on my project cars to begin with, So I just sand out and fill/primer.

Any ideas on how to tackle this? This doesnt have to be perfect but would like it to look better.

Scratch is down to the metal, And I can stick my fingernail in it. About 1-1/2-2inches long (Curled, Not straight) and wide. Vehicle has clearcoat.

I've been watching videos and reading so many varying things online...

What seemed like it might work is filling the scratch with something (Not sure what exactly, Bondo?) letting it dry then gently using lacquer thinner? to whipe and remove the excess only leaving the filled in area.
Then, Fine brush and (GM #56) Paint. And probably clearcoat on top.

Thoughts?
Again, this doesnt have to be perfect, Just less noticeable at least.

Ugh this looks awful, And yes... The Van needs a good wash also:

Lounge / 351 M or W?
I'm going to look at a Ranchero today, I cant tell right now if it has a W or M in it.
Can anyone make it out?

And whats your guys thoughts on the M versus the W?
Car seemed to have plenty of power. It's being sold at a wrecker, And before they brought it out they were doing smokey burnouts, Haha.

Engine Tech / V6 ~ Water Jackets and New Gasket issue
I've got FelPro Head gaskets. And for one, I dont know which side faces up, Blue lines or solid grey.

Are these even the right gaskests?

And the second issue is they both have blocked water passages on one end as you can see.
While the Block and Heads have passages on both ends.
Chilton and Haynes no Help, Web searches not helping so far.

Any ideas or knowledge on the subject MUCH appreciated.

User Rides / I'm still around... New toy
Hey guys, I'm still around just havent posted in awhile~Bird hasnt progressed too much since I left sadly, But I've acquired some nice parts for her from JY donors.

Sad to go in one day and gets tons of good parts then plan on coming back the next door for an un-cracked charcoal belt reciever and finding the poor bird crushed and on top of a pile.

Anyway, I just brought home another project today~I honestly didnt think I would ever own something like this, And I dunno how keen you guys are on Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler...
But during a JY trip the other day I spotted her about 100?feet away behind the fence in staging area and something about her called to me:

This junkyard (picknpull) usually could care less about any car and wont have second thoughts about crushing something. And as soon as the wheels are taken off a vehicle it's considered staged and untouchable/un-buyable by the public except for any parts sold before it gets crushed.
So I got on top of that pr0nto, Just in time~Apparently it was just dropped off hours before I got there.
Tons of phone calls finally getting the owner who was very very kind, In and out of the yard/offices then some fluid top offs, New battery and this how she sits in our driveway, where she drove to.

They wanted $1299 as-is, Amazingly enough I got it down to $899.

The 318 has a very audible tapping noise from the drivers side, Hoping it's not a hard/expensive fix~Had to warm up awhile before it quit dying on gas or brake pressure, heh.

I've encountered my first major issue tonight that I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what in the world I'm gonna do, Maybe you guys have some advice?
Drivers door latch has not latched since they got it at the yard, The thin sheet metal has kind of torn and pushed inward on both the pillar and door, You could basically slam the door as hard as you want or play basketball (dribble it) and it wouldnt latch for anyone.
But of course, It some how manages to catch and latch on me all the sudden...
Pass door has to be opened from inside due to linkages I assume. Cant get into pass door from outside.
Linkages are screwed up on drivers side from what I can tell... we dont actually have a key for the doors or trunk (Hopefully there is no dead body in there :rollin:), Planned on taking a lock out and over to the local key maker.
Well,
I'm completely locked out of the car now...
Drivers door isnt entirely closed due to movement of the sheet metal, You can poke at the  doory side latch but I'm not getting anything to pop open.
Door is unlocked at least the inside nob is all the way up, And door wont release via the outside handle.

I dont know what I can do from here... :toilet:
Only thing I could think of didnt have enough leverage:
Vent window and rubber needs proper placement, It's sitting alittle low so there is a roughly 1x1square opening at the top point of the vent window. I'll try again with sturdier rod later, But came up with some rod that I was able to shape and sort of grab the vent window lever, I'm at a major angle at this point with the latch at the bottom front area and need leverage upward.
The latch on the vent window is very tight against the rubber because I had of course (*sigh*) right before I shut the door (And it stuck) Had forced the vent closed and latched.

Any ideas?
PS: Breaking a window not an option~LOL.

Lounge / Damage Estimate?
Getting ready to write up a police report...
The other night our (straight and undented) '94 Astro van was backed into by a ford explorer (one of the older ones with a metal exposed bumper...) at a store parking lot.

How much do you guys think a repair quote would be on this?:

Whole front bumper is shifted to the drivers side.

Lounge / Sandblasting
I'm looking into to doing some sandblasting this year;
I would probably be starting on some aluminum heads and intake in an enclosure of some sort, But the big project would be an 8.8 rear out in the open.

My big concern is safety for myself, I don't want to give myself silicosis or anything like that... I would like max protection within my budget.

I definitely don't have the funds for a "Fresh air supplied" Helmet and Pump, But I do have access to Oxygen Tanks and Medical Oxygen Hoses and what not...

What do you guys suggest I use? Or what Do you guys use?

I was looking at this combo of items on the Home Depot website:

With this setup, I think the Window on the hood would degrade too quickly and not be changeable~Unless I could come up with some sort of film to put over it?...
And would the filter really be enough for heavy sandblasting in the open?

Thoughts?

User Rides / Project Thunderstorm
Well, She's been sitting too long, To the point that I'm even Embarrassed to say how long.
This HAS to be the year I get down and dirty, And put my baby on the Road.

As you may or May not know, She ain't all that pretty right now, Prior owner abused her (Inside and outside big time, I did not make those stupid primer squares) & She has V6 (Half apart)... But she was free, Is rust free, My first car and I love her and that's all that matters.

First priority is to get her Running Good, Registered and Tabbed.
Then: Body Work, LOTS of upgrades + Blood, Sweat and Tears (LoL) will follow.

Project Thunderstorm Strikes... Soon~More towards Summer likely, I don't have the luxury of indoor garages or good weather *sigh*.
Just wanted to get the build thread up. :hick:

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Esshag 3.8 Heads
If anyone has an old 3.8 they are going to s or get rid of, I may need the heads.
Not looking to spend a Ton of money, Just might need a spare set to tinker with this Summer.

This style (Earlier 83-84 Birds, Cats, Stangs, Granadas and such):

Body/Appearance/Interior / 83-87 Ground Effects Interchange
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm not finding it...

How well do 83-86 specific and 87-88 specific pieces interchange?
I would assume the front bumper cover wouldn't fit right at all due to shape and such.

But, How about the side skirts?
I think I recall reading awhile back there was only a small height difference to the side molding?

And how close is the rear bumper cover to fitting?

Pics would be great too, If you got 'em.

It seems by coolcats.net, That Eric frowns upon this type of thinking *snicker* But I'm curious... :hick:

Lounge / 347Thunder in MM&FF!
Just got the October issue of Mustang Monthly and was delighted to see a red 4eye Bird in the user rides section.
Further investigation shows that it's "347Thunder"'s Car. :burnout:

Lounge / Explorer/GT40P JY Dificulty?
So I was at the junkyard last week, And unexpectedly stumbled upon an untouched 5.0 Explorer (98 or 99 I think).

I didnt have all my tools and had broken my half inch socket earlier, But managed to get the upper manifold off anyway (wewt!)
And planned on trying to get back and see if I might be able to grab the lower and more important to me~The heads.

So I'm heading back over in the morning, Hoping the heads are still there (Bonus if the lower is also).

But, what difficulties should I expect to encounter on getting the heads out in a junkyard? Any specialty tools I should bring along?
