After reading this post it's just amazing when you think about it, isn't it? Some of those antique engines I'd mentioned above made 2 horsepower and weighed half a ton. Technology has brought them so far that we can hold a 2-stroke engine that belts out a couple of horsepower in the palm of our hand, and they're so light we think nothing of carrying them around (chainsaws, weed whackers, etc).

...and some people think the internal combustion engine has never evolved...

I encounter that thought a lot when talking to older folks...they get intrigued when I mention "Thunderbird"...they right off think of the '55-'56-'57 years..and forget there were 'Birds made after that.

They ask me what year it is...I tell 'em it's an '88. They go "hmmph." and I mention that it's got the Mustang's HO 5.0, and they all then insist those newfangled "injected fuels" engines aren't any good....

I have lots of respect and love for the Gen 1 birds....but a carb has no place on a modern car.
Amazing indeed that engines have evolved, but some folks are still stuck the Jurassic, so to speak.

Anywho, back to topic.

You only need to drive behind a classic car to appreciate how clean they've become. I was driving behind a 70's Corvette yesterday and I swear my new Sonata could have run off the unburned fuel coming out of that thing's tail pipes...
