Well-preserved, stock, and with all of the day-it-was-dealt stuff. Wondering what the hell that hood ornament is...but that would probably be a minor bodyshop fix while still preserving the rest of the paint on the header.
The grandpa marquis radio is flipping me the bird. I literally do not want an aftermarket HU. Very happy with the Premium Sound + my sub using high input wired to the back 6x9s.
Tried the radio from my old '87 Vic, did nothing. Sounds like it must be an HU from a Premium car. Checking with yards on car-part.com...most are on the shelf so they can't just go look at the door speaker grille on the non-existent car.
The Vic radio (non premium) is E7SF 18B865 AA, with 8720 printed below that first line. The Marq radio (premium) is E7AF 18B865 AA, 8713 below.
The E7XX should be more important, no? A couple of places actually list E7AF online, haven't called them yet to see if they ship parts. I have a hunch the E7AF is the dead ringer.
Would that 8700 number be of any significance? Just some production line tracking number/serial? I haven't had a factory radio fail yet, but as a result of this I'm probably going to buy 2 or 3...:hick:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqAY0IppaZQ I swear one of these days I'm gonna drive down to PA so he can do one of my Cougars. I watch his stuff all the time, he does really goofy/rude/crude stuff for more "pedestrian" or truly regular cars but clearly liked the TC because he kept it serious.
See? We're smarter than everyone else. Everyone else.
I should really get around to updating my signature LOL. So finally here's the thread about my recent score from Bahhhston. It's remarkable how rust-free this car is. The inner passenger door bottom is a little crusty but nothing some grinding, a dash of epoxy/mud and paint can't cure. That's it. 170,000 miles. Doors have several annoying dings in them but overall the body is real straight. One dime-sized surface rust spot on the trunklid, and some big paint chips off the front bumper. Carlite glass all around. Has keyless AND moonroof. I was shocked to find that. Unlike the red car, this moonroof seal is actually still supple and puffy and probably doesn't howl like the wind in the beginning of Holy Diver.
You Probably can't see it but that dash is 99% crack-free. I swear that's half the reason I bought the car :hick:. The silly title comes from the things many jackass kids seem to say now about their Mustangs and Camaros and such, as well as the CL ad. Uh no..I think right now ITS feelings are hurting because it's semi-broken!!
So the funny stuff: A fuel pump and lines that can support 1,000 horsepower. "Slightly" built AOD. No beefed up clutches or bands in there unfortunately but a shift kit (I'll probably tweak anyway) good 3k RPM non-lockup converter and 1-piece input shaft are. Was told it slips when warm...lines go to the radiator...195 degree stat. Yeah. Probably overheating constantly. Fluid seems fine, we'll see what happens. Edelbrock performers, cobra intake, F-cam. Hollowed out cats in the 'stang H-pipe. Laughed when I found that. Haven't KNOWN of any car that someone did that to yet. I wondered why it was so loud! And of course, a P600B Procharger. Seems to be fine but I think it's leaking oil from the return fitting. Intercooled, might be the 3-core one from what I've read. It's long and the bumper was..massaged a hair to fit it in there.
So right now I'm working on getting it back together and reconfiguring the piping a little for an SCT-2600 MAF at the cone filter in the driver's fender, and getting some injectors. Had 38's. Mustang Magic down in LI uses SCT and they told me to get that MAF. I have to ask them again about injectors because I'd like to spring for some ID1000's and buy injectors once... Obviously I want as much as I can get out of it. Going to have to buy at least a couple pulleys. Dyno tune I don't demand to make more than 400-425 hp, then see if they can set up some safe-bet tune to push the boost and go for closer to 500 at the end of the season. It has a main cap girdle which I read seems to help keep things together when the block splits. I just don't wanna ruin the heads. So we'll see.
Thought it had a blown HG because the radiator was pressurizing quickly and Cyl #1 was not firing. Header was warm/hot but not scalding. Car was mildly backfiring too as it sat there idling. Exhaust smelled normal for an un-catted car. But upon tearing it apart the HG seemed fine. Heads are both flat within .001. I'm thinking dead/plugged injector but why the popping. Car had sat for several years. Pistons all look good and so do the cylinders. I was told and it's quite evident that the motor is barely broken in.
So I'm treading real slow and reading 'til my eyes hurt and talking to people. I'm real excited, this is entirely new territory for me.
It's interesting, scary, and cool to think that I could potentially, truly grenade this thing. Debating about whether or not I'll use some "expendable" parts to put me in a situation where I literally don't care LOL.
Build thread coming. I did say I would talk about it eventually. And I literally just started working on it so it's not reeeeally like I've been holding out :) Truth: I have a Pantech Link II (Blackberry imitator) so I need to remember to bring my camera to places. Frankly that's also a dinosaur but it's much more worthy of taking car pics. And I almost always forget. So I take horrendous phone pictures of everything while everyone else posts 16-kajillion megapixel photos from THEIR phones. No I will not be assimilated into the Borg. This phone is a tank and I love my keyboard!
And, no worries, the other black...'88...XR7...Cougar is not being ignored. Still waiting for my friend's dad to finish his current body job and then do my front subframe. I will truly be trolling some people next summer
