Lounge / Glad I found you guys!!
This car is still in the construction phase. The pretty and powerful motor will come later. That is a mid 70's LTD low compression engine with D5 manifolds.

Cooling is not a problem. The radiator is half full and with a 180 thermostat it runs at 175. I have a 17 in flex fan and it really sucks the air. The radiator is a Summit universal with big tanks and 2 big cores. The shroud is an E6 Mustang piece. Hood shuts without touching anything!X

Engine Swapping / Quick and easy V8 swap ? (2.3 to 5.0)
No I do not use any return line from the carb because it deadheads at a perfect 6.5 psi.  I have no idea what the long term effects are with this setup because it is too early to tell. Any thoughts?

the 87 TC has 275-60-15 on 10 holes in the pics. I am getting some 16" TC wheels widened to 8.5 in. and when Mickey Thompson makes the new 295-50-16 Drag Radials in the spring, I want a set. The gray Bird has 325-50-15 s on weld draglites 15x9.X

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 1986 turbo coupe parts
Do you still have the aluminum spare? I need one for the  "small" brakes. (83-86)  I am looking for one to match my other small brake one. If so, how much to 40004 ? (I'll pay to have the tire removed before shipping) Thanks, Alan

Thanks everbody!  I was getting real lonely thinking that there were few fans of these cars left out there. I see I am not the only one that loves them.:grinno: My wife races the gray 460 Bird and I race the TC 460. My daughter will be racing the 84 5.0 this year as well. We race at U.S. 60 Raceway in Hardinsburg, KY and we are still the only ones on a regular basis running the fox T-Birds. :birdsmily:

I am working on an idea to have the look of the TRX's but use more common 16 inch tires. I'll post pictures and info when I am done but I mocked up a set on my TC yesterday  and they look great.:grinno:

As far as the fuel question goes, I found out how to use the factory in tank 40 psi pump and get 6.5 psi at the carb. I got this tip 2 years ago off a link at toohighpsi.com and it worked great! I put a "t" fitting inline connecting the high pressure feed to the return line. The 40 psi pump runs full time in a "runaround" mode as normal but because the return line is smaller to the tank than the feed line to the engine, it produces a natural restiction (which produces backpressure) that just so happens to be 6 psi at idle and 6.5 psi when the rpms come up. I have run this setup for over a year and bracket race this car (my 84 non-h.o) with a 88 Turbo Coupe tank. I do not know how this would work on an engine making more than 250 hp but I am pleased with the results so far. All the fittings at the hardware store cost me $ 18.00  I'll try to get photos of my setup on the '84 and post them.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!!  I have been on alot of Mustang websites and fordvschevy.com but had little luck meeting fox Bird fans like myself. I love looking at all the photos. It looks like now I can learn more about the 83-88 Cougars as well!:birdsmily:

Thanks for the kind words. I have 2 big block Birds and 2 small block Birds. The 2 big blocks are bracket raced and tagged for street use as well. The 84 is my drive anywhere, bracket race anywhere machine. My 83 Heritage is the first T-Bird I ever bought. (in 1992) I have bought over 20 since. (12 of which were intercooled Turbo Coupes)  Love them all! The 87 Turbo Coupe has the 460 and most of the factory air induction plstic under the hood. I had to lower the engine 1.0 inch lower than normal to get it to clear. Hood shuts fine with a performer intake and a 1/2 inch nitous plate topped off with a 3 in Moroso air cleaner. This car will get 16 x 8.5 (widened) Turbo Coupe wheels soon and Mickey Thompson will be making 295-50-16 Drag radials in the spring. (or so they told me at the NMRA World Finals) They also said they will be making a 315-45-16 DR as well. If they do, this is going to be a great year! I have always wanted a 87-88 T.C. with a 460 and factory looking wheels. X
