My first '84 ended up having the infamous first-year EEC-IV processor cut-out. It did just that...cut out for a split second, then the car came back on (3.8L V8/C-5 transmission). Not real fun when turning at an intersection. The car had an extended warranty and it more than paid for itself...EGR, TPS, distributor, TFI module, etc. were all replaced. Think they did the EEC relay also. Finally they gave in and got a new EEC-IV processor and that finally did the trick.
So maybe something in the EEC itself? A lot of times the capacitors go, as there are lots of services that will recap them now.
Otherwise I'm all for the ignition switch or the TFI replacement and go from there. It could be a ground issue somewhere also...like the block to firewall, something like that. It sounds kinda major so you'd think it would be kinda easy to find but I know how sneaky Fords can be, especially with 1980s wiring...
Happy you're up and about, hopefully not in too much pain.
If it were me...by the strut tower would make the most sense. Would look just like a new car, and it gets all the wiring in one spot. Did you have any other plans for that area (sensors, etc.) or would it otherwise be unused space?
Apologies for all the trouble...this forum software is a little undercooked. The themes available are few and far between, and even though they're supposed to be vetted, sometimes they just don't feel like cooperating. Alex and I had a devil of a time getting this site moved up to PHP v8, so the themes might not be 100% compatible with that version. I continue to check for any updates and will install them when/if we get them.
Paul, the bars are not representational of any value or increment. They are just there to show a general reading of the gauge, nothing specific. For all its 1980s aspirations, the full digital gauges are pretty much nothing more than abstract guesswork rather than actual, true displays of what's really going on. It's no wonder people sometimes hook up auxiliary gauges just to get a clearer picture of the temp and oil and volts situations.
Very rarely, grounding out the gauge can "reset" it. And a temp sending unit change can also help sometimes (if you can find one for a digital gauge).
Cascading issues...gotta love it. That's in the Fox DNA! Sorry to hear but that's fairly straightforward to fix. Love seeing progress with this car, it's so well done in every aspect.
Yeah, the car was pretty bad. But like a lot of those shows, some things look totally staged.
It cleaned up pretty well though, despite the typical worn consolette armrest and driver's seat. Paint was okay, didn't look like it had any rust. I saw some paint imperfections but nothing major. Overall a decent car. Best part was how the woman's daughter (~12ish) was excited for it to be her car.
Anyone see this show? Found it on Hulu. In S1 E9, "Stinky Kitty", they clean up a 20th Anniversary Cougar that was sitting in a barn with the windows down and lots of barn cats.
I noticed that too, don't know what is causing that. There were some legacy themes that carried over with the database and I had to install them or else we got crashes. I think some of the themes are not ready for prime time, to be honest. But yeah, that does seem to fix things. It also might be a browser cache or cookie thing as well.
