T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / Pair of 1986 T-Bird & Cougar parts cars
Hey all.... I have both an 86 T-Bird  and 86 Cougar I'm parting out here in Claremore, OK.

The T-BIRD: was a 5.0/AOD car but the motor is gone, along with most of the interior. It was darker red with red interior. Important pieces like the header panel/grill and tail lights are either busted up or not worth pulling. This car sat a long time behind a barn and most of the wiring is shot along with the paint....ironically the body overall is actually in very good shape rust wise.

The COUGAR: same 1986 5.0/AOD car, drivetrain is complete, have rolled engine over by hand, thats I've done with it as, much like the T-Bird, the wiring is chewed up and not brave enough to but a battery in it. This ones blue on blue cloth and most of the interior is there but the drivers window was down for several years so the interior is pretty rough. Overall the body is decent but it had something dent the passenger side up high (about the middle of the window height).

Either car would be good for sheet metal replacement and/or build into a race car and I'd prefer to sell them as complete (or as complete as they are) and neither has a title but can provide a Bill of Sale.

If interested, I can email/text pics as requested (the Bird is at my house, the Cougar is parked at a buddies place a half hour away, can get pics within a couple days)

I'd sell either car cheap: $250 for the Bird and $375 for the Cougar

Would like to see both of these go to good use before I need to haul them off.

Suspension/Steering / Brake upgrade situation
Ok, I've recently acquired a very nice, original 83 Thunderbird Heritage 5.0 car with 67,000 miles. I've forgotten how bad stock brakes are as my Capri has 4-wheels disks. I'm debating on upgrading to 4-wheel disks but have a couple options I'm kicking around.....

Option 1- I was given a mostly stripped 2000 Mustang V6 car that I've pulled the complete rear axle and spindles from (also have a pair of 94 front spindles that I'm told are the better ones to use to keep geometry correct). The V6 cars as we know have the 7.5 which is fine as I'm more concerned with it stopping safely than making enough power to hurt that axle. The axle has all new rotors, calipers and pads and seems to be in working order and has 3:27 gears (open diff). If I go this route, I have the option of running a set of 16" Lincoln LSC wheels that I have a new set of tires for......or......I also have a set of 17" '96 Cobra wheels that I'd have to buy new rubber for.

Onto option 2.....

I've recently been told about an 87/88 TurboCoupe with no drivetrain that the guy wants to get rid of quickly and cheap. The 8.8 T-Lok  disk axle would be a nice upgrade but a little overkill for for a daily driver type car and I could keep my American Racing 5-star wheels I'm currently running (16").

I'm thinking despite halving most of the parts on hand to do the 5-lug upgrade, I may travel  to get the 87/88 Bird and swap the 8.8 under it and possibly even upgrade the front spindles to the 87+ Mustang/TC sized rotors also.

Guess I'm just looking for opinions and insight here. I know all the other issues with master cylinders etc but thats not really a problem as it'll all be replaced when the upgrade happens anyways.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / My small dilemma......
Hey guys, I don't post on here much, usually just lurk around, but I've come to a point where I'm thinking of selling my 84 Turbo Coupe to build another car I've had for several years (been collecting some parts for it and deciding on how I want it to be exactly) but I'm having a small problem....

Between another forum (FEP) and facebook, I've become friends with a guy who has shown interest in the Bird....well thats great and he has agreed to my asking price but no actual agreement has been made and here's why: It'd be his only daily driven car for he and his family. Now hear me out......once I sign off on a title, all I can hope for is that it goes to a good home and is taken care of the way I would, right? But.....my bird is a pretty nice survivor car that I've taken really good care of over the years (covered in the garage out of the elements etc) and I just can't bring myself to sell it to someone who's not a "collector/enthusiast" and just wants to drive it to WalMart and the grocery store etc.

Am I being to over-protective (it's ok, you can say CRAZY...you won't be the first!!!) or does anyone else feel I'm kinda on the right path with this train of thought?? As I see it, it's a fairly rare car and finding good parts for it would be a difficult task for him when/if something happened to it.

Thoughts? Opinions??

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / '84 Turbo Coupe in Oklahoma
Ok guys, it's been a while since I've been on the board here, but, I think the time may have come to sell off my T-Bird, or at least see if theres any interest in it.

Charcoal gray over gray cloth, P/W, P/L, P/B, rear defrost, tilt, cruise, P/drivers seat,  just over 107K miles, stock drivetrain but car has some upgrades: 17" 2000 Chrome Cobra rims with good tires, 5-lug swap using 2000 and 2001 SN95 Mustang parts on a rebuilt 8.8" with 3:55 gears (5 lug and 4-wheel disks), MAC Racers Choice shifter, tinted windows, Panasonic CD player and upgraded speakers, aftermarket rear sway bar, Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks/stuts installed with 5-lug swap, and lastly, Grant GT steering wheel WITH the correct adaptor so the cruise still works.

Car has been covered in my garage for nearly 5 years now and has been occasionally started etc but hasn't been street driven since parked.

Overall it's a clean survivor car with some slightly faded paint and stone chips but presents very well while the interior is very nice with no rips, split seams, stains or burn marks.

LEADS on T-Bird/Cougar Stuff For Sale / 84 Turbo Coupe Feeler....
Ok guys I'm posting this up here in the FYI area as a feeler because I've decided to put my one T-Bird up for sale. I've decided I really want another Bronco (78-79 body) and since this Bird has been parked in my garage, covered, for about 3 years now it's a shame to just let it sit and take up space.

What this Bird is: charcoal gray over gray cloth, mostly stock drivetrain but brakes have been updated with SN95 stuff and 8.8" axle with 3:55 gears, 17" chrome Cobra rims with Bridgestone tires, tinted windows, MAC shifter, full aftermarket CD in-dash and speakers and a Grant GT wheel with correct adaptor to keep the cruise, which works.

Bird has just under 108,000 original miles and runs and drive very well with Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks and struts plus Monroe Quad shocks, these were installed when the 5 lug conversion was done along with an aftermarket rear sway bar.

This is a very nice survivor car that does have some road scars but is still in VERY good shape, I got compliments on it everywhere I took it.

Looking for opinions on its value and any interest in it, not desperate to sell it, just seeing if someone would like to give it a good home.

Can email any specific pic's if interested. Tried adding a pic into this posting but it wouldn't work....?

Thanks, RAY

Engine Tech / Need 2.3T help badly!!!
Ok guys, anyone who has an opinion on this, PLEASE help!! I'm at my witts end with an 84 Turbo Coupe, 2.3T-5spd car. It runs fun with your foot into the throttle and at idle, but at a constant speed and under a light load it bucks and chugs so hard it's knocked itself out of gear!! I'm fed up with it and ready to yank it in favor of an all mechanical 5.0/5spd so at least I know what I'm dealing with!!! LOL

Here's the details on the car:
Stock 2.3 Turbo Coupe, 126,00+ miles (obvious signs of previous engine work: no paint on head, new clean gaskets etc) Was told upon purchase car had new injectors (green tops).

Upon purchase I did a complete tune-up including: plugs, cap, rotor, 8mm silicone wires, and even a fuel pressure regulator. Adjusted timing and it ran "good" (still not great) then slowly got worse. As a side note, the best MPG I've gotten from it has been 19.8....think it should be better as my other Turbo Bird got much better mileage. Ok, back on track....new in-tank fuel pump and sock (why do these cars have TWO pumps anyways!?!) and 2 new Throttle Position Sensors (TPS's-thought maybe first one was bad as the box it came in was kinda beat up, swapped it at O'Reilly's for another). Only thing I haven't swapped out yet is the fuel filter.

Car runs ok in the morning when it's cool out and even after it warms up to operating temps.....but anything over outside temp of say 70 degrees, the car will buck and chug even before I can get out of the driveway.

I'm at a loss here....I'm starting to think its the distributor? I've been all over the engine bay looking for vacuum lines that are broken, loose, cracked etc and have found nothing. I've also compared this car to it's twin in my garage and have found only 2 differences:
EGR has been blocked off with a plate and vacuum line to it is capped off.....and a small plate between the IAC (idle air control valve) and throttle body, it has a Ford part number on it and also has two set screws that will change idle if you mess with it (?).

I know this is a shot in the dark asking for a diagnosis online....but any suggestions at this point and time would be helpful!!!

User Rides / ......and then there were two!!!
So last Saturday I'm online emailing a buddy some pic's and started looking on a search engine that covers all Craigslist ads (SiteMash for those interested) and typed in Thunderbird.....well.....that changed my plans for the weekend!! Long story short, after a couple phone calls, it was decided that I would be leaving Sunday morning for a small town about 6.5 hours away from Tulsa to look at a Bird!! That 6.5 hour trip ended in Creston, IA where I picked up the twin to the 84 Turbo Coupe I currently own!! I can't believe the condition its in with having 120,000+ miles, the interior is literally almost perfect and it runs and drives great. Ok, it needs a pair of rotors but otherwise it made the trip without any issues. Ok, enough of my babbling.....heres a couple pics of it for your approval!!!

Later, RAY

BTW-The first 2 are the new Bird, the 3rd is my original one.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Interior color question....
Ok, not sure this is the correct section to post this in, but I'm curious about something and hope someone here can answer it.

Here goes: How rare is back interior in a 83-84 Thunderbird or Cougar?  I have the sales brochure that I'm pretty sure lists black as an option and have seen in person ONE Thunderbird with black interior. I tried repeatedly to buy it but the owner declined every time. :dunno:  Anyway, I've always loved black interior and wanted that car so bad, then one day a young girl was driving it, tried once again to buy it.....3 month's later the car was trashed!! NOT a happy camper!!

Anyway, anyone here have black interior or seen it? HELP!!!

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / Custom T-Bird grill
Hey all, I picked this up at a swap meet a couple weeks ago and thought I'd throw it up here for sale. If no one wants it, I'll gladly keep it and decorate the garage walls with it!! LOL

First off, this is part of the old body kits to fit 83-86 T-Birds.
Overall its in good shape, only marks are where the paint is chipping off. The grill on the back is thin plastic and IS broken and would need replaced with something different. It's made out of a flexible urethane similar to bumper covers and is still pliable.

Price: $25 plus shipping. (Thats what I paid for it) Thanks, RAY

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Where are our cars?
Ok, I've been searching online lately looking for another (hopefully) 83-86 Bird to use as a DD (weather permitting) to replace my 99 Crown Vic Police Interceptor......my question is....WHERE ARE ALL THE FOX BIRDS?? I've searched coast to coast, and compared to say 2 or 3 years ago, they are nearly impossible to find! Theres a small handful to chose from, but it seems like they have all but disapeared!! There are quite a few 87-88's out there, alot of them being Turbo Coupes, but your basic car is, IMO, quite overpriced. Even our own classified section here usually only has parts and not complete cars.....?

Just wanted to vent a little and see what others opinions were on this. Feel free to comment!!

Thanks, RAY
